2015-2016 Vanderbilt University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well at least in 2013, there was one post of acceptance on December 15, followed by a bunch on the 16th. So I'm guessing they started on the evening of the 15th. But that's purely a guess
Well, it feels good to be in good company with folks who are also anxious to hear! Phew, what a ride.

Current MS I here:
I went over to the admissions office yesterday and chatted it up with a few people.
Decisions are coming out (tentatively) later this week, stretching into the weekend.

Any insight on why it's tentative?

The person I spoke with said it would be later this week, but you know how med school admissions offices are with issuing dates...
I don't want to make promises that can't be kept.

@WinterSoldier93 Did you by any chance also hear anything about interview invites coming out/how late Vandy will be interviewing? I was talking to someone at a previous interview who mentioned Vandy's moving a little slowly this year with regards to the whole process, but wasn't sure if that was actually true.

Interviews will take place until the last week of January, but I'm unaware as to the speed of the whole process.

For some reason, I recall the admissions staff saying that we would hear back on Monday December 21. Anyone else?

I'm very shocked. I had to post on here because I have a friend who made 524 and 4.0 gpa and just for a rejection letter from Vanderbilt last night. How could that even be possible? I don't get it! Maybe because he has very minimal extracurricular activities and no research experience? But still his academic is excellence so, someone tell me why Vanderbilt is so picky?

Stats don't automatically win you a spot anywhere you want to go! They're also looking for ECs, research, life experience, and character. The ability to perform well in classes and on tests doesn't necessarily mean you'll be a compassionate physician, you know? But perhaps more importantly, since Vandy tends to have high numbers you have to keep in mind that they have a very small class that they could easily fill several times over with stats like your friend's, so it is undoubtedly nothing he did! Just random chance.

Also yield protection. To be fair though, I was gonna decline Vandy anways since I have a good number of IIs at much higer ranked schools and don't feel like commiting to additional travel

Idk if there's a real rhyme or reason. They made it pretty clear they don't play too much into yield protection because they're willing to compete with other programs for the top candidates. That's why they accept something like 200 students for 90 spots. This whole process can be unpredictable, especially as an applicant. Best of luck to you with your other interviews!

Right this. having high scores doesn't guarantee you anything, besides maybe a secondary. The process is so subjective. It's dependent on who you get as a reader.. how they feel when they're reading it... how many people of your similar demographic they've admitted already... and of course "fit". where they somehow decide that they understand you as a person from an application and deduce whether you fit at the school.
I had super strong ECs, research + pub, etc., but got rejected too.

Yesterday: Accepted to UChicago and rejected preinterview from Vanderbilt.

All I can say: Ya win some, ya lose some

Keep on sailing! -theboatman

They also have tons of money to give out so I would be surprised if they yield protected. If they were worried someone wouldn't go there, they have the means to sweeten the deal like few others do.

If this person had no research, I bet that was a red flag. Vandy has a required research project.

Why are people so bitter? You can't expect to get an interview or accepted to every school you applied to. Schools are looking for specific things in creating a class. It just happened that Vanderbilt is looking for something different from what you offer, while you may align perfectly with another similarly ranked or higher ranked school.

Do you think mid November interviewees will hear back in the first batch?

I don't think so. I interviewed on 10/23 and they said that we were on the cusp of the first/second date.

Dang I interviewed 10/26, so I guess if they don't accept me this week I'm just going to pretend like it doesn't matter because maybe they didn't look at me yet for a final decision...

In last year's thread, someone noted that they interviewed on Nov. 24 and heard back in December!

Also rejected on Friday. Post secondary/pre-interview. I knew I shouldn't have gave those bastards more money. hahaha

Speaking of which, why are there so many "Vanderbilt vs XYZ" threads?? 😕

Just got the call!!! Interviewed mid November 😀 in shock.... Shaking like literally

To those accepted, have your application statuses changed in the online portal??

If we interviewed early and don't get a call today can we assume we are rejected?
