2016-2017 Tulane University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Green checkmark now, submitted on 8/26/16. I also called Tulane about my application yesterday so that might have made a difference.

Are either of them cooked in a meat-based broth? My bet is yes.
You can read about the history and culture of Red Beans and rice on Wikipedia - it will score you some bonus points on a Monday interview. If the red beans are traditional, they will have pork in them. The rice, served in a separate pan on interview day, has been made with tap water in all the commercial and home kitchens I've seen.

Fancy Feast wanted to know about the interview lunch, and I hope I helped. The food Tulane serves for the interview lunch is carefully chosen and full of far more hidden meaning than most other lunches you will encounter on the interview circuit.

The food will likely not include a vegan option, unfortunately. But you're only eating/interviewing with a student, who will not care if you eat something you brought instead. If it was me, i'd thank you cause that justifies me getting seconds. So it's really no big deal. If eating with others causes you anxiety, it's also fine to just not eat at all. Either way, the student will thank you and it won't impact your interview.
Thanks for the forewarning. I'm vegetarian by religion, so that would actually be a pretty serious matter for me. Although I don't have an II lol

even though they say they don't take calls?
I mean I did it and I got the checkmark so idk
I wouldn't. Programs will reject applicants for not being able to follow simple directions.

Oh crap are you srs rn? I just called and asked if there was a problem with my app that I should fix, and they didn't seem to mind checking on my app for me

Tough call on this issue. It's true if they explicitly state not to do something and you go ahead and do it anyway, they might flag you. If they were cool about it then you should be fine since most admissions office are quite lenient. Not that I recommend this, but I know of people who sent updates to schools even though it was stated pre-interview updates were not accepted and they got interviews. Like I said, I do NOT recommend going against instructions, but it's also not the end of the world.

No merit to the idea that a green checkmark gets you an interview. Green checkmark simply means you are being reviewed.

I heard from a source at Tulane that a lot of the green check marks will get interview invites but they must be waiting to send the email notifications.
This is untrue. All people will get green check marks when they are under review. The check mark means NOTHING more then that you are under review. Don't over think it.

Denied.. Kinda bummed about this one, really liked this school.

But good luck to everyone!!

Our red beans/ rice/ sausage meal has all meat on the side.

Really...? Hmm. That makes sense though, especially when you have so many people coming with different eating habits. Thanks.

Also rejected just now
Completed the last week of July I think.
Did not do CASPr or w/e that additional test is, which now I suppose I'm glad I didn't.

Last II reported here was 9/15 and they said earliest interview dates were in February. Per the school's website, they only interview through February. It seems they filled their schedule quite quickly.

So does that mean all interview spots are filled except the remaining dates in February? Not looking so good... 🙁

chances aren't great, but not nil yet. When the first few batches of acceptances come out, some people will withdraw whether it's because they got into their dream school, travel expenses, etc. etc.

damn filled that quickly 🙁

Thanks for the insight! I'll plan on packing a lunch and snacks 🙂

Dude thanks for asking. I'm vegan as well and I've been able to get away with only eating potato chips at my other interviews, but I wasn't sure what to do about this interview because I heard the food is all seafood-based. Luckily it looks like we can bring food so I think I'll do that. Or not eat anything at all at lunch, I probably won't be very hungry. Cheers

Should I be worried that I was complete mid-August and have no green check? I know that just means you've been assigned to a screener, but if they never screen me, I feel like they'll give out all the interviews.

Kind of sounds like they have already given away nearly all of the interviews. Tulane thanks you for your generous donation though.

I know it takes a lot of time, it just feels disappointing if my app is never given a shot when others after me already have been :\ I'm confused
feel your pain

Does Tulane send an email when you go from red to green check? Or do I have to log into the portal daily to check?

.

Anyone know if they will give out acceptances on Oct. 15 or will they wait until Monday?

Rejected. complete mid-Aug. had green check mark for about 2 weeks. good luck to everyone else.

I am wondering this, too!

Although, I am just going to assume it's the 17th... seems like that is what most schools are doing. One of the schools I interviewed at said according to AAMC traffic rules, they are actually not supposed to do it on the weekend.
Yeah I heard that too. Any idea of TMDSAS schools are going to follow that too?

How many completed July people are left? haha :hello:

Completed July 24th and still here. Apparently it's a potentially good sign especially if people give up interview slots after the first wave of offers go out from a bunch of different schools. I am hoping interview slots open up. The reason we haven't been rejected yet is because we are on their radar and someone they want to give an II too but slots arent open (admissions office said this)

Does anyone completed in July/Early August still have the red exclamation mark... Forget an interview, at this point I'm going to consider an under review green check mark on my portal a W...
