2016-2017 Tulane University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Called Tulane today--they said if people got rejected before and after you...it's usually a good (certainly not a terrible) sign and it means that you're on their radar and they just don't have interview slots open quite yet. They said that's the most likely reason
But the application says "The admissions office does not accept phone calls, email or communication regarding the status of your application." I was too scared to call them lol.

This is reassuring, but my confusion is that people complete after me have been rejected and I still have a red exclamation mark haha. Who knows what that could mean

Probably jumping the gun here, but does anyone know if Tulane has good post-interview acceptance rates for people who interview from February and beyond? I know people get accepted after interviewing in March or April, but the interviewed spots have been handed out so quickly and so many of us still haven't been reviewed 🙁. Not trying to be a pessimist, but I just want a neutral and realistic opinion.

Anyone interviewing on Sept 26 want to go catch the Saints-Falcons game at the Superdome afterwards?
Who dat! Brees is warming up on the 50 yard line.

Anyone send more than 3 LOR's and get an interview?

Haha yeah i didnt give identifiable information and called using a google number which shows up as some random state that im not from

Ok, I sent in quite a few more than I should. I received a II but still nervous...

I wouldn't worry about it. I did the same thing with a handful of schools. If they like you, I doubt they would refuse to accept you due to sending 1 more letter than necessary. They obviously weren't bothered by it since they're interviewing you.😛

It was def more than one letter... lol but thank you! 🙂

If i read their site correctly it says if you send in more then 3 they pick and choose which ones to read basically. I did the same thing as you so I shouldn't be worried as long as your letters are good.

Just got a rejection email! Complete first week of August and green checkmark for around 4 weeks

Well this isn't making me want to check my email today...

Any feedback on the interview from people who were there recently?

The email that you get once you're complete states that you will have a red exclamation mark until you are assigned to a screener, upon which it will change to a green check. So I don't think that the red exclamation mark really means anything but you are still in the queue to get assigned to a screener...

Green check mark means one is just "under review"?

I am dying for an invite.

I heard from a source at Tulane that a lot of the green check marks will get interview invites but they must be waiting to send the email notifications.

That's pretty vague... My understanding is that everyone gets the green check at some point. Did they qualify this statement at all?

Stop playing with my emotions..
Anyone know if there is any merit to this??
It seems like most people in this thread have gotten a green check mark eventually and I think someone earlier even said that green check mark means that your app has been assigned to a reviewer.

Yes, the complete email mentions that a green check mark means that you have been assigned to a screener. I don't think there's any merit to the rumor that all current green check marks are getting IIs, since screeners are not obligated to give apps they read an II. also, it's in a school's interest to get rid of an app that has no chance, just as it is in their interest to send IIs to superstars early. For those who have interviewed: How was the lunch organized/what did you eat? I'm vegan for personal reasons, and eating with a group of people that I don't know gives me some anxiety (unlike the jokes about vegans, I'd really rather not have my diet be the topic of conversation/be remembered for this reason). I was planning on bringing some protein bars, but don't want to look weird...any insight on meals available would be great!

If they're interviewing for a professional degree, I would hope it wouldn't come up. Pack a backup for yourself just in case. You can always use the "oh I didn't realize lunch was provided" excuse if it comes up.

The lunch is the "student interview" and they have food already made. I would suggest bringing some of your own food and leaving it in your bag (the lunch room is the in the same building as where you can leave your bags) because all the food is premade and there was only one choice for us.

The food will likely not include a vegan option, unfortunately. But you're only eating/interviewing with a student, who will not care if you eat something you brought instead. If it was me, i'd thank you cause that justifies me getting seconds. So it's really no big deal. If eating with others causes you anxiety, it's also fine to just not eat at all. Either way, the student will thank you and it won't impact your interview.

Thanks for the insight! I'll plan on packing a lunch and snacks 🙂

That's a shame, because that New Orleans food we serve for the lunch interview is one of our major recruiting techniques. The meal will be available cafeteria style, so you can pick and choose what items to take.

If you interview on a Monday I can guarantee Red Beans and Rice will be available. I've always seen a salad available too. I don't know if the red beans will meet your requirements, but certainly you could run with rice, salad, and whatever else you find / bring.

New Orleans has heavy Roman Catholic influences, so a Friday interview will most likely have fish (like a fried catfish) in one of the trays.

Are either of them cooked in a meat-based broth? My bet is yes.
