2016-2017 University of Arizona - Tucson Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am an IS applicant and also a participant of the AZ Applicant Academy for this year. The Admission Director and Committee members talked to us in May and I wrote some notes down. Here are some statistics and info to ease some stress in this thread:
  • Minimum for MCAT Score is 498 although they did accept someone with 495
  • Each Secondary Application Committee, which uses your secondary application as the primary screen tool for II, is composed of two people, one student and one faculty. If there is discrepancy between the two, a third person will come in and break the tie.
  • The Admission Committee is composed of 16 members: One chairman and 15 members (5 students and 10 faculties). The 15 members are divided into 5 subgroups composed of two faculties and one medical student.
  • Each subgroup of the committee will look at your application and agree whether to further discussing it with the entire committee. If so, the committee will anonymously vote to decide if they want to admit you or not.
  • The whole committee meets up biweekly.
  • If you did not make it to the voting stage, then your application will be back in the pool and probably get reviewed every two weeks or month.
  • The committee is very thorough and they may remember your application -- could be good or bad.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for your insight! Very interesting how it all works. This kind of makes me more nervous though lol.

Hi, Good luck to All. I am OOS and also on hold for II.
Oct 13 - Secondary Submitted
Oct 27 - Hold email received

Good question...anyone hear anything today?

I referred to my " not accepted yet" email on the 17th, it came around 2pm. So that's when I'm expecting to here something. I interviewed on 10/1 so I'm hoping this is my first thorough look by the committee. Not sure if by the 17th I was even seen yet, but supposedly someone was accepted from that interview day ( referring to previous posts on here).

been on hold for about 3 weeks...anyone receive an II after being on hold for longer than a couple weeks?

Do you mean 2pm Arizona time?

Yeah, that's when mine came. In past threads, it looks like mid-week was pretty typical for emails.
Though, in last years thread the first acceptances weren't even until 10/28, so perhaps they're doing stuff a little different this year.

Received at around noon Arizona time today. Still hopeful because I love this school but it sounds like at least some people were accepted today!
"The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson sent out a round of acceptances today. Although you have not been selected at this time, you remain an active candidate in our applicant pool. This is not a rejection letter. You will remain eligible for an acceptance at any time during the season. It is our goal to keep you updated about admissions decisions."

"Yeah just so you know, we accepted a bunch of people today but you weren't one of them. TTYL!"

Didn't get anything either... didn't know people got acceptances today haha no one posted.

I was accepted today at 11:26AM PDT. I'm posting this late as I have been in complete shock. I still can't feel my fingers or toes. I've been perspiring since I found out. I think I am dehydrated. This feels like a dream. I can't believe it. I just can't believe it. Is this real life?! This must be a dream. Lizzy M 64.5 OOS. Non trad. Lord have mercy.

If you don't mind me asking, when did you interview?

"Yeah just so you know, we accepted a bunch of people today but you weren't one of them. TTYL!"
When did you have your interview? I got this same email on the 17th but didn't receive it this time. So I'm wondering if they even reviewed my application this time. It's so confusing because on my interview date (10/1) we were told our application wouldn't even be seen until mid November late October at the earliest, but someone posted they got in on the first batch of acceptances on 10/17 who interviewed on 10/1. So I'm kind of confused at this point.

I also interviewed on 10/1 and also received the 'wait-list' email on 10/17 sooo I'm worried that getting the 'wait-list' email again today means I was reviewed. Keeping my fingers crossed though.

Wait you got the wait list email today?

So through the grape vine, there was at least one acceptance from the 10/14 interview group. I've been told there was only about 22(?) others accepted to-date. That acceptance number is not concrete and is based some inferences made by my source. (supposedly there is an accepted social network group lol)

So for those who interviewed on 10/1 I would have to assume we were misinformed about being seen about 6 weeks later. I believe we did get a solid review before the 10/17 committee meeting. I have to assume that the 10/17 email was a legit "wait list" email and not an automated email. As for getting the "wait-list" email today I did not receive one and neither did my buddy who interviewed on 10/1. So I can't make any inferences on that.

All we can do is stay positive and hope for the best at this point!

I interviewed on 10/8 and have not received a single email. Anybody else in the same boat?

+1
10/8 interviewer
But I am happier to receive nothing than receive a rejection so not complaining at all haha

Congrats! What was your interview date?

Thank you all so much! I'm still in disbelief. I feel I have to pinch myself every 2 minutes lol. It was my top choice school because of its Integrative Medicine initiative.

I interviewed 10/8. Were there any other acceptances from that date yet?

Congrats! Did you get an email 10/17 or was this your first one? & are you IS?

Got the hold email for the second time, just to keep people posted.

Same here... Interviewed 10/14, so I don't know if my file was really reviewed or if everyone that isn't accepted this round gets these "on-hold" emails... Does anyone else have a red exclamation mark on their profile status page for "File Under Review"?? I have green check-marks for everything else except that. Just wondering if that means it hasn't been reviewed yet even though I just got the "on-hold" email.

Call and ask. I'm sure many people have the same question(s).

After looking at last years thread, it doesn't appear that anyone gets off post-interview hold. I guess I'll call it unsubbed for this school and thank goodness I'm already accepted somewhere else.

+1. Anyone else look over the past few years for post-interview acceptances after the hold email?
