2016-2017 University of Arizona - Tucson Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
OOS, got this message today:

"We welcome your continued interest in the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson. Your application has completed the primary screening phase for an interview invitation. Our medical school is currently unable to invite you to interview. However, we have determined that you are a competitive candidate and you will continue to be considered during this application cycle."

I'll take it. I'm assuming this is the hold message.
yup

For the folks who got II's, could you please post your stats and complete dates if you don't mind sharing those details?

LizzyM?

Anyone with II care to share their LizzyM score?
74, IS, but I'm pretty sure their avg stats are like 31 (510/511?) and 3.7ish. I haven't looked in a while though. That's like a what, 68 LizzyM? I also wouldn't put too much stock in LizzyM scores, from what I've seen from UA it's a LOT more than just stats. They just get your foot in the door, and with the avg being 68, there are obviously those above and below it. Just do your thing, be patient, and your time will come. You got this 🙂

My friend had called Admissions to check if waiting for her new MCAT would effect her II chances, but they said they only use the MCAT to screen for secondaries. like myboysiddartha said, stats are more of a way to get your food in the door at UofA.

Saw an email from admissions post-interview, nearly shat myself.

Then I saw that it was about a survey. Anyone have some adenosine?

+1
I was about to die when I saw that I had received an email from the school!
I saw it at work, and then I saw the survey subject line and it was a rollercoaster of emotions lol.

Quick question @UAZ COM-T Admissions-
I'm an OOS applicant but I have ties to the state (partner's immediate family lives there- in Tucson, actually). There was no place to add a statement of specific interest in the secondary application, so I was wondering if you think it would be worth it to give the admissions folks a call and let them know this additional piece of information. My application is currently "on hold".

Hmmm I feel like it's not something you would call to update about. I don't know what it would really do for your app. However it would definitely be something you could list if asked "why our school" during the interview, along with reasons why having your in-laws in town would be important to you. I guess I feel that if it wasn't in the secondary/primary app, and it wasn't really asked for in the app at this stage, then that information is not going to help you get an II.

I was definitely planning on highlighting that if (when) I get asked that during an interview, however, if you look at my application it doesn't look like there are any specific reasons I want to be in Tucson. I also don't want to be that person bugging the adcom with "hey don't forget about me!" calls. Hoping UAZ COM T-Admin will respond...

So are we supposed to find out if we are accepted today if we were in the first two round of interviews?

That's what was said, not sure how true it is. We will find out today hahah
I'm just going to guess it won't be today, and it will be on the later side of their estimated return time. It feels like when you order something with 3-5 day shipping and it always comes on the 5th day and never the 3rd.... (Except with Nordstrom. Shout out to you guys.)

I mean yeah, more than likely we will not hear until November like it says on the website, and at the earliest it wouldn't be till Oct 15th.

However, does that mean I will not be anxiously waiting by my phone for an email? Absolutely not.

So just a normal day? lol I feel like that's what we do every day, or at least I do. I probably check my email 30 times a day.

I am actually in the same situation and I feel like my application looks completely out of the blue, but my significant other was born and raised in Tucson so naturally I have visited and he is always raving about U of A which is literally down the street from his house. Would love the opportunity to explore the school and all it has to offer!

We may or may not be the exact same person. hahah that's literally my situation word for word.

Met some really nice people at today's interview! Let me know if you have any lingering questions about the school.

So I am waitlisted at this school but will be in Arizona in December. You guys think I will be able to call admissions and arrange a tour of campus or something while I am in Arizona to show I am still very interested in coming to this school.

How are you already waitlisted? Do you mean on hold?

On hold as well. OOS 🙁
(From what I've noticed so far, most of us have either been invited or placed on hold? Haven't really seen rejections. )
