2016-2017 University of California - Irvine Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Wow that's weird that you got an II on a Sunday. Congrats! Are you IS or OOS? What are some available dates to choose from for your interview?

Thanks a ton!! The dates are 12-1 and 12-12 if I'm not mistaken. Is getting one on a Sunday really that odd??

I would guess it's a bit odd for interview invites to be going out on the weekends. But anyways congrats to you!

For those who have interviewed, do you remember when UCI will get back to us? Was it four weeks? Thanks in advance!

I interviewed start of November and they told our group December before the holidays

Does anybody happen to have the link for the Secondary Application website? I seem to have deleted it from my e-mail and now I don't know how to access my portal... :dead:

Waitlisted a couple hours ago. Interviewed less than a month ago. #1 choice so it stings quite a bit :/

Also waitlisted today after interviewing start of Nov. Does anyone know on average how many people get moved up from the wait list?

What is "Yield Protection" ??
Yield protection is based off the idea of yield, in this case referring to the number of people who go from being accepted to matriculating. This is mainly to ensure that they don't waste limited interview slots on people who are unlikely to come to their school and also so they don't have to pull from waitlist later in the cycle. In order to accomplish this and ensure "high yield" (a high number of people who are accepted matriculate), some schools will refrain from interviewing applicants with stats much higher than median (likely to get into other schools), those with no connection to the area (why move across the country for a state school) or those who dont match the mission etc

Aha! Thanks much!

questions for anyone that has interviewed here... about how many people do they typically interview on a given day? also, i know they say they don't have an in-state preference, but what is the mix of IS and OOS applicants like on the interview day you attended?

question for someone who recently received an II here... what were some of the available dates to schedule your interview?

About 20 interviews per day. Usually on Thursdays.

There were just shy of 40 interviewees my day.

I met mostly IS applicants, but there were a few from other states (WA, NY). I didn't get the chance to chat with everyone so there could've been more.

Anybody else that interviewed on November 7th hear back yet? I'm trying to control my compulsive reloading.

Hey guys,

Does anyone know UCI's policies on pre-II letters of interests/updates? My secondary was complete on July 22nd and it's been silent since then. It seems like UCI has been a bit slower than other schools about II's, but I was just wondering if it'd be a good idea/if they'd be receptive to a short letter re-iterating interest. I've looked on their website but haven't really found any information for or against it. Any information is appreciated, thanks!!

Am also considering this. I don't think it would do much, but I feel like it wouldn't hurt, since it looks like we're out of luck here anyway

Complete mid/late September, have not heard back yet about an II invite. Anyone else in the same boat?
