2016-2017 University of California - San Francisco Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just received my secondary, and I only added UCSF to my primary list in mid-July (was verified on July 5th, but did not have UCSF as one of my schools at this time).

OOS, LizzyM ~74

do you guys think i could be screened out for a 3.49 science gpa? my overall is 3.64
i have lots of research experience

Wondering the same thing - 3.56sGPA 3.52cGPA but 35 MCAT (12 12 11) and 1500+ hours research, publication, poster, and 1st author abstract
UCSF is one of my top choices so would really love to receive a secondary!!

If I apply for PRIME, will I also be considered for the regular MD program? Or is it one or the other?
If it's anything like the UCLA PRIME, there is a spot where you can designate that you would like your app to be considered for the regular MD program if you're not selected for PRIME.

I was verified 06/24, got the secondary 07/22, literally just after I had given up hope

Just got the secondary! AMCAS verified 7/6 in case any of you are wondering where they are in the screening process

So the consensus is that it is ok to not add anything in the 'expand or update you activities' section? Or are people using that space for anything else besides activities?

From what I've read, some people didn't have anything relevant to write and didn't fill it out. Don't think anyone has used it to write off topic things. Have to show that you can follow instructions!

I did not write anything because I do not have any updates since submitting my AMCAS. Also, I expanded upon each of my activities in my work/activities quite enough.
Also, don't try to throw a diversity of why UCSF essay in that space... just don't, it doesn't answer the prompt.

I only used that space to expand on study abroad just answer the question if you have an activity you want to talk about whether it's an extra-curricular or research or whatever then use it

Eh I managed to do a diversity essay because I visited my mother's native country this summer. I considered it an important activity.
It all depends.

yeah for sure! a new experience like that is definitely worth writing about.

For reference for those still waiting, my AMCAS was verified before 6/27 and I received the secondary yesterday. I am OOS with a LizzyM ~69, but better grad and post-bacc record. Compared to fellow SDNers I do not have thousands of hours in research or clinically related volunteer work, but I do have both with modest hours. I am honored to have received the secondary. Best of luck guys.

Day Numero 1

BTW..anyone know exactly how significant receiving a secondary is? Im getting mixed responses

I'm convincing myself that it's significant so I can feel proud about this application cycle so far
Haven't heard back from any school besides UCSF's screening. Also a borderline applicant stats wise (LizzyM ~70).

From what I read, 7000-8000 apply, ~2500 receive secondaries, ~600 get interviews

If you're OOS, it might be a bigger deal as they're more selective with OOS. Although according to MSAR, matriculation is ~50% IS and ~50% OOS.

Has anyone run into any issues with the secondary payment? I paid my fee but my portal is still showing it as not having been paid.

It took a few days for everything (payment, LOR) to be updated back when I submitted mid July.

Just saw your question...I would apply; especially if you're IS! I have scores very similar to you... You won't know unless you take a chance!

did anyone receive a secondary/II as a reapplicant?

i havent seen anything on their website regarding reapplicants/whether they discourage a 2nd application
