Is anyone doing the SPP? Or people from previous years who have done it?

Does anyone have their Student Login info? Perhaps the NetID? I would like to look at the housing application, but I need these to start. I was accepted back in Novemeber..

I interviewed for the RIMSAP program last week and received an email yesterday for an invitation to interview... then an hour later I received an email confirming my interview for an already past day!? I called admissions and they said I will not have to interview for the MD program since I did the RIMSAP interview? Can anyone speak to this....? I am kind of in disbelief that I can't interview at a campus....

Got in during October and still haven't heard anything besides campus placement

I'm in the exact same boat as you. I keep receiving the same email you're talking about. One of my friend's is a current M3 who got in with RIMSAP, and he never interviewed/visited one of the campuses. The RIMSAP interview is it.

Same here haha. IS there a way to appeal this decision?

There is but I hear it's not successful without compelling reasons. Even home ownership isn't a compelling reason as of last years threads. Thankfully I have another Chicagoland acceptance 🙂

Do you have the link to last years threat of appeals?

It's in the school specific discussion for last year. I can't dig through that many pages again. Good luck to you though!

Dang... I kind of wish I would have known that beforehand!

For those who received their acceptance letter-does "UPR Track Clinical Assignment (m2-m4)," with Peoria checked, still mean M1 is going to be in Peoria?

Yeah I am pretty sure because the Urbana-Champaign campus is closing.

They are opening a new, separate medical school in Urbana-Champaign in the next year or two, so UIC no longer sends new med students here

I sent mine in Dec 28th by regular snail mail and admissions mailed back placements on Jan 11th (received the 14th).

So I just got my placement...and it's Rockford. Which makes no sense! I am a Chicagoan through and through, I've lived here most of my life, my family is here and I put that down as my 1st preference. Plus I've talked extensively about wanting to work in an urban environment, specifically Chicago in both of my applications and during my interview, and they place me in rockford, what do they just pick it out of a hat?! I called about appealing and they said all i can do is email them and even then they don't consider this until april and i won't know about a change till summer at times. UIC is my first option, all I have been hoping for, but I can't go with them if I'm in Rockford, I need to be close to my family. Does anyone know any stories of people getting their assignment changed or even how i can go about it?

It makes tons of sense. It's first come first serve, you got interviewed later, you sent in your request later, all the Chicago spots have been filled already because most people would prefer to be in Chicago. It's a simple case of limited supply compared to demand.

Its not random. The dean of admissions discussed this in some detail with me. Placement is based both off of availability and professional interests. As it is a little later in the cycle, there are fewer available Chicago spots. During the interview they ask you questions about your interests and place you as best they can. But keep in mind there are campus specific programs and those who applied for those programs in Chicago will get priority as there are fewer spots. He said you can appeal in April, but priority goes to those who NEED to be in Chicago (the example he gave was people who have children in school). Hope this helps.

Is it really that late in the application cycle? Others have posted about the fact that people who apply later, interview later, can still get Chicago. I have a friend that applied the same time last year, interviewed and got accepted around the same time and got her her first choice of Chicago. Plus, I've applied to the UMED program which only occurs in Chicago right?, but they don't do acceptances for that for a while, the deadline is march, they interview on second look day, so i'm automatically disqualified? none of this makes sense...

I was told by the admissions office that if you apply and get into one of the Chicago-specific programs (UMed is included in this), then you will be placed in Chicago. I'm sure they do some shuffling for the students who get into these programs later on.

Hmm I see. So it does matter what you say at your interview and whether you play up a certain campus or not.

I don't think it's about playing up a certain campus. But I'm not in admissions, so I obviously don't know for sure. The fundamental thing behind what he told me was that campus placements are multifactorial and they do their best.

Can I just say.... Rockford is pretty close to Chicago. 1.5 hours is a cake walk when it comes to traveling! If I were in your shoes, I would be grateful that I was accepted and will be attending medical school this fall.... BUT that is just me!🤣

Getting out of your comfort zone might serve you well in medical school. Congratulations.

When they say first come first serve, do they go off of who interviews earlier or whose acceptance packet is delivered first?

Was there a portal update saying when admissions had sent back the placement? I was out of town and also sending from California, so my portal says they didn't receive my response until January 10 (I got the acceptance email Dec 20). Not being in Chicago and paying OOS tuition would basically make this place a dealbreaker for me...

No, I emailed admissions and they told when they sent them out. My portal said they received my response the 3rd so yours may be coming a little later. Let me know if you get Chicago though!

I got Rockford and will, thus, be giving up my spot. One more opens up for you guys!

FYI, my placement was received Jan 3. They are not giving it solely based on first come first served.

I got my placement today and I guess it does not play a huge role what you say in your interview (I got placed in Chicago and didn't mention it in my interview at Peoria).

My response was received on January 5 if that helps anyone.

Yeah, I sent my response in after Christmas, portal was updated as received on the 3rd, got placement mailed out on the 11th, so i'm among the batch of people that still got Chicago placements so it's not first come first serve. Well, I'm not holding out hope, and I ain't going to Rockford, this appeal process is ridiculous and I've got other options so good luck everyone else!

Also need to keep in mind that as people with Chicago placements drop, more positions in Chicago may open up for people interviewing later (I'm speculating)

Does anyone know when we need to be at the Chicago campus by? I'm assuming this is the first day of orientation but I can't seem to find the date.

im sure this has been mentioned but does this school do silent rejections...i've been an applicant in process for forever

I've been at Applicant in Progress for a long time. At least you moved onto Process

what does in process necessarily mean though?? i know im non-trad in the fact that ive got a low mcat score but i think my application is otherwise decent.

Progress is still waiting to be reviewed where Process your app finally went to someone for them to look at. I just went to Process this month after calling in December and they told me it would probabaly be sent to a reviewer in January corresponding to my change to "in Process" from "in progress"

When were you complete? I don't know when mine will be moved to process. January is already almost over... 🙁

I sent my secondary in at the beginning of August so it took forever to go under review... but I think people later than me have interviewed so I don't know how the process works.

Well I am a re-applicant a few years back. I didn't get a II until March 5th according to the email. So as long as they still interview that late still there is plenty of time 🙂

Hi everyone, should UIC have sent any acceptances today? Did anybody who interviewed in January see any changes on their portal today?
