2016-2017 University of Illinois Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Wasn't yesterday supposed to be the day of the month the committee meets? Should some statuses be changing today? sorry I have been extra-neurotic these past days, and I have a feeling my waiting is just getting started sigh...🤔

Is there anyone that interviewed late October/ early November that is still decision pending?

Does anyone know the teaching styles of this school? Like is lecture based or more read the book and your pretty much on your own?

GUYSS!!!! 'Additional Correspondence TAB!!!! I can't believe it...guys I can't believe it!!! This is for the acceptance thing right?? This better be the acceptance! Don't want to get exited for nothing!:soexcited::soexcited::clap::banana::banana::banana:
(Interviewed in early January)
I'm pretty sure it does. I read somewhere else that almost everyone who got the Additional Correspondence tab was accepted (maybe one person was waitlisted). Although can anyone else who got the acceptance packet tell us about any emails that you may have gotten after the status change and how long it took to get it?

I checked my portal that morning and it still said Decision Pending. Then I got an acceptance email and went back and checked my portal and it changed to the Additional Correspondence! Got my packet about a week later and course placement about two weeks after that.

Interviewed Early November, been "Decision Pending" for a long time now. Starting to lose hope to be honest. Does anyone know if they send acceptances/ make their portal changes for a few days after their adcom meeting, or if it's just one day?

Congrats on the acceptances everyone! Which location did you guys interview at?

Got my placement today - Peoria baby! Rent here is dirt cheap!!! Any current students on Peoria want to shed light on where they live? Does anyone know when second look is and if we go back to the campuses we were placed in?

Does anyone knows where to find info about UIC's M1 year on this site? I have been using the search option and the 'medical students' forums but cannot find school specific discussions there.

Got placed in Peoria on Friday :/

Does anyone know how to withdraw from here? Do we have to mail something in? It doesn't look like it's possible to do it from the portal.

Also, does anyone have thoughts on if there are any advantages to not withdrawing? I've been lucky to get into a much higher-ranked school in Chicago where the tuition would be significantly cheaper than OOS at UIC, so it makes sense to give up my spot at UIC so someone else can have it right? The only thing I can think of that could make the decision harder would be if I got like a full tuition scholarship from UIC, but I don't think they even do that for OOS students? I just don't want to make a decision I might possibly regret later without thinking through all the implications but I also definitely don't want to hold a spot that I won't use when so many other people want to come here.

where/when did you interview? I feel like all the jan. acceptances so far have been chicago interviews, and none from rockford
I agree, that seems to be the case. Anyone get an acceptance this month that interviewed at Rockford in mid December?

So I think the Multiple Acceptances Report comes out 2/1. That's when other schools can see where you have been accepted, and many are known to use this info as part of their financial aid decisions.

Chicagoland accepted - how long did it take for the preference statement form to get to your house? Or am i an idiot and can I do it online

Accepted Insanely fast turnaround. Less than a week

It would be nice to know the exact date of your interview. During my interview session, on 1/18, we were told not to expect any decisions this month.

Decision Pending... Does it mean anything for people who interviewed within the last month?

Anyone knows if we have to wait for the packet in the mail in order to accept our offer and put down the deposit?

Congrats to everyone that has been accepted! I have my interview coming up in Chicago and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on how they thought the interviews went and whether or not they were more behavioral question based or more conversation based? This is my top school and I just want to have the best shot possible. Any tips/suggestions are appreciated!

The interviews were very conversational and supportive (walked away feeling energized and excited about starting medical school) when I went. Your mileage may vary as the three interviewers I had are very unlikely to be yours. Best of luck to you!

I had the same experience. Not accepted yet but I feel it was a great experience even if I don't get into this school.

Mine was a little different than others have said. I only had 2 facility interviews and no student interview. One was somewhat impersonal, they asked a few things about me, but otherswise asked standardized questions I felt did not really allow me to express myself. In the second they told me what they would be evaluating and had a list of questions, but we ended up having a very in depth conversation and I felt they were genuinely interested in me. So I would say it really all has to do with your interviewers, but have some of those standard interview answers prepared.

I agree. Of the schools where I had one-on-one interviews, I found that I really enjoyed my interviews at UIC. They were also really accommodating: one of my interviewers wasn't able to make it so one of the admissions staff interviewed me instead. There wasn't a delay and although he asked more standard interview questions, he seemed sincerely interested in my experiences; I also felt that the question/answer dynamic flowed naturally into more of a conversation. My other interviewer was a faculty member and I was surprised that we basically talked about our mutual love of photography. Yes, we talked about the curriculum and students but the bulk of it was really chill, and dare I say, fun? That also seemed to be the consensus from my fellow interviewees, even those who had different interviewers. Best of luck and hopefully you'll really enjoy it! 🙂

P.S. I also had two interviewers (originally two faculty, but modified to one faculty, one admissions staff), as my student interviewer couldn't make it either.

Does anyone know when that Castle Branch stuff needs to be completed by?

Hello! How do I check the status of my application? Is there an online portal? I can't seem to find it.
