Expect and be prepared to have 1 station where you will completely fall on your face and have no clue. Think about how you'll fumble through 5 minutes of that, and don't allow yourself to get flustered because each station is a clean slate. Remember to still make eye contact, smile, shake interviewer's hand and say thanks at the end even if you completely blew it - maintaining professionalism probably will salvage you a few points at least.

Thanks for the advice! Are the stations such that you will walk in, introduce yourself, and then go into an answer? Or do you just go in and begin?

Also more logistically, can anyone tell me about the structure of the interview day? The email said arrival time is 10:30, meaning the overview of the MMI / orientation of the day will start then or the actual MMI will start then?

Walk in, introduce yourself, immediately start answering. Some of them asked me "did you have time to take a look at the prompt?" before I started. It's also worth remembering that a lot of them will try to look stoic and appear as though they don't have a reaction to what you're saying, so don't panic if it feels like they don't like your answer. Try to consider the prompts from multiple perspectives. And honestly, just be yourself. You don't have time to make up a crazy, formal answer anyway. It's not really supposed to be conversational, they'll tell you this before you start. The interviewers goal is to try to get you to talk the whole time, so if you stop talking they have a list of follow-up questions to ask you. Don't panic. It goes by super fast and it'll be over before you know it.

It depends. The day I went, there were two groups. One interviewed in the morning, the other interviewed in the afternoon. Either way you'll have an orientation to the MMI before you get started. Good luck!

Did anyone who interviewed for PURCH hear back about being accepted at UMass before PURCH?

i've been wondering the same thing! nobody seems to have been accepted to PURCH yet

Anyone know when they stop giving IIs here?

I would love some anecdotal evidence from years past that would give a little hope 😀

Just got an II for February 27th. I love Massachusetts and have spent a majority of my summers growing up there, but is this too late for an OOS student to get a shot for acceptance?

Why would it be too late if you got an interview....they don't interview for the hell of it!

I interviewed for PURCH and UMass at the beginning of November (2 days in a row) and haven't heard anything. After this last round of acceptances, I've been checking my portal daily, but it still has that green circle and just says "under consideration". I'm hoping that's not a silent rejection and that they just haven't gotten to mine yet...

II this morning, unsure if I'll be going. Haven't gone to an MMI interview yet and not entirely sure how to prep/if it's worth it.

I did an MMI for another school. They're not that bad. I'm deciding on mine by finding a cheap flight in since I'm OOS. I really want to check the school out!

It took UMass about 7 weeks before accepting me. The admissions committee meets Friday mornings and sends out emails after they make a decision. I got my acceptance around noon. The portal will be updated after you get the email, so you don't need to bother checking it. It sucks waiting, but the silence just means they haven't gotten to your application after your interview. Hopefully they will soon!

I'm IS, LizzyM ~72.5. Interviewed 10/25, accepted 12/16.

Has anyone called to find out when we hear from purch?

Thanks so much for this response. I was taking the holiday off SDN so as not to go crazy, but reading this really helped since I still have yet to hear anything...

Does anyone know if UMass has any dedicated time off for students to prepare for the STEP? I've noticed some schools have a few weeks off, but I can't find anything for UMass.. http://www.umassmed.edu/contentassets/64b04ef02daa444fadb0c891c7a9ae18/lcme.pdf this is the only thing I found and it doesn't seem to include anything about time off.
If I remember correctly during interview day, I don't think that they said there was dedicated study time for step 1.

anyone know how to approach updates (post interview)? what the email is / if it should be in the body or as an attachment? tenks frands

This doesn't totally answer your question, but I think it gives a good idea of the curriculum (assuming it's the same as it was in 2015). It mentions Step 1 preparation briefly on page 18.

This interview's my first MMI... do you guys think it's worth reading up on health care ethics or does just standard knowledge/good judgment suffice for MMI questions?

Same. I'm curious as to if they are giving the PURCH and UMASS decision together (makes sense) or separate.. I hope being OOS doesnt end up being too much of an issue..

I've been wondering the same thing! It seems like nobody has heard back who applied from PURCH. The wait is so difficult!

Yikes, I'm reading this now and seeing people from both October and November getting in. If I interviewed mid-october and haven't heard anything does that mean I got passed over if people who interviewed in November are already getting accepted?

I interviewed late September and still haven't heard back. We're definitely getting passed over but it doesn't mean we don't still have a chance... It just might take until May or June to get results.
