2016-2017 University of Michigan Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm thinking about applying here, do you think it's too late to apply? LM 72, OOS, it seems like there's a lot of students with IIs already...

Hi fellow MD hopefuls, sorry to be this guy, but does anyone know if the two interview date options given are the only ones available?

II received!!!!! Today at 1:58 PM! Im OOS, living in Ca. So really I only got in 30 min ago. Good luck refreshing that inbox!

My stats could be encouraging to some of you: LM ~69, OOS, secondary submitted 6/25. Yeah, 6/25. Don't lose hope!

Ooh that hopefully bodes well for me! Hope my essays didn't turn them off they def weren't my strongest...

I just emailed them to see if it was a mistake. This is so awkward...
Well besides being a URM you do have good stats and EC's! I remember commenting on your WAMC thread. 3.9 GPA and 33 MCAT is not bad at all.

Umm I'm confused... I got an II but I didn't even submit my secondary....... I am URM so I'm guessing that's why???

Wow that's crazy. Congrats though!!

pretty sure it wasn't a mistake I know a few ppl who got IIs last year without secondary. Congrats on your interview.

That's so awesome! Congratulations. Do you have connections to the school or to Michigan?

I'm a sad person, asking questions on Twitter that I would have saved for an interview in a desperate plea for affection

I know at least one person who was given a II before turning in a secondary from last year. They were interviewed and admitted.

man i dont want to diss anyone but that kinda sucks. I mean I know a lot of fantastic people on and off this thread who submitted real early, love UofM and/or are IS, and haven't got an interview.

Why are they giving IIs to people who haven't even submitted their secondary...

UofM (while still an awesome school) has by and large the most stressful, uncool interviewing invitation process imo

Ya in the interview confirmation email they said that if you haven't submitted your secondary to go ahead and submit it before the actual interview. They also replied back to me and said that the interview was intentional. So looks like I'm gonna go!

Gotta agree. Kind of lame to send IIs to people who didn't fill out the secondary.

You must be an extraordinary applicant! Congratulations!

I especially disagree with the latter portion of that statement. UofM is exponentially more transparent than most schools during the process. They invite only on set days, update their Twitter with the number of interviews given, and even provide detailed historical data. While it may seem unfair that they give an interview without a secondary, some schools don't even allow you the opportunity to elaborate on your fit with the school specifically. If they deem that you are a great match for their program based on the AMCAS alone then they are well within reason to extend an interview.
