2016-2017 University of Nevada - Reno Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just got the official II. I submitted the application June 7th and got a secondary mid July. I'm applying Early decision and have stats of 515 MCAT and 3.72 GPA. In state.

Any other early decision people around here?

Congrats on your acceptance!

II, complete 7/11.

Is this a two-day interview??? (Sept 6 & 7)

The first day is a "welcome day" with time to meet the faculty, tour the facility, and listen to presentations about the curriculum, financial aid and medical school loans, and additional information about how the multi mini interview will be run.

The 7th is the actual interview day which is said to start with time to have any of our questions answered and then a "wellness activity" (whatever that means). After that, interviewees will go through the circuit for the MMI which includes 10 stations with one rest station and one pathway station.

Haha yeah after the excitement I read through the email and saw the details. Wow... do many schools do a two-day interview? Interesting.

Has anyone with an II received a confirmation email yet? I filled out the online survey and I haven't heard back from Pat since. Kinda paranoid that I fell through the cracks, especially since the interview is in less than a week

EDIT: nevermind, got it yesterday

Their MMI coordinator told me that they'd send out an email detailing our MMI schedules after they filled their 30 interview slots.

Haven't gotten it either. Are you in state? I'm thinking about calling next week if I don't hear anything.
Out of state. If you do end up calling, could you please let us know what is up? That would be awesome! 🙂

Have II been given out to people that are not Early Decision?

I am also an OOS that hasn't received a secondary. Have you tried calling already? I tried calling but was sent to voice mail last week and haven't heard back.

From last year's thread, they were pretty selective in which OOSers received secondaries at all and they didn't seem to be sent out until September on.

I did end up calling. Are you a reapplicant by any chance? They said that they are reviewing the reapplicants at the end of the month and then seeing if we improved on whatever they advised from the last cycle before deciding whether or not they're gonna send a secondary.

No, I'm a first time applicant ToT, still nothing. Thanks so much for letting me know!

Secondary received. Was getting worried there for a second haha

Anybody else met with nothing but silence? Primary submitted July 12th, verified August 5th. (OOS, 3.95 gpa + 506 MCAT). I assume that since I haven't been officially rejected, I have a shot, but I cannot find any information regarding my status and have not received any emails from them. Not sure what to do in this case, any advice?

Same situation here. Secondaries seemed to go out in September onward for select OOSers based on last year's thread. Still seems odd that it's getting this late with complete silence.

+1. Primary was submitted July 12th and I've heard nothing. I'm from Utah so I allegedly have a (small) chance.

EDIT: If it's this hard to get a secondary, I don't want to know what you have to do to get an II!

Hmm very strange. However glad to know I'm not alone, thanks for the reply!

So I just found out some info about UNLV if anyone is interested. They will be either granted or denied accreditation next week, and then we can apply through AMCAS. Their interview format will be one interview with faculty and one with a community volunteer, and apparently people invited for interview will be provided with a list of possible questions.

So we can apply to be in the class that starts in the fall of 2017?

Sent from my SM-N920V using SDN mobile

Thank you so much for this. I've been completely out of the loop since I'm not a UNLV student

Wait so if we already listed this school on our AMCAS, when we submitted way back when, do we just have to wait until after their accreditation meeting and they will contact us? Or are we required to do something?

No idea. I didn't even know it was listed on AMCAS yet

They're completely separate institutions -- I would assume it'd be listed as "University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Medicine". For Reno it's listed on AMCAS as "University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine" (the name change happened in July)

Ahhh, my mistake, thank you for the information!

Anyone else interviewing 11/9-11/10?

Just got a secondary. Really excited!

Edit: Forgot to add, I'm OOS.
