2018-2019 Lincoln Memorial University (LMUCOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I also haven't gotten a call. They said the adcoms meet wednesday, so I've been on edge these last two days.

The staff and students were so friendly and insightful throughout the whole experience. It is very apparent that they love their school and maintain a tight-knit atmosphere. I was very impressed by their facilities and residency placements as well. The interview was a blast, so for anyone with an interview ahead, it is something to look forward to in my opinion!

Great to hear! What was the interview format?

Can someone tell me a little more about the community services or anything you like about the school?

Classes are grades. Clinicals are grades
Both A-F
First year is taught great.
Second year is hit or miss
Clinicals are hit or miss depending on location
It’s an ok school. Some of the stuff they do makes no sense but welcome to academics. IE they cut board prep time in half last year for no reason and our spring semester of M2 was a compete mess which made board studying much more difficult. They told us they would change it up for classes down the road but we were all pretty bitter toward the school and still are.
If you’re from the area and don’t mind going DO it’s an ok place. Our scores are slightly below average though in contrast to the average DO school but the cause of this is up in the air

Can you elaborate on the clinical sites? Is there any tertiary hospitals available for third year student to do the rotations? Thank you!

For everyone who has already interviewed, how many interview sessions was it? Is it just one session with 2 faculty & staff? Or 2 sessions with 1 faculty/staff each? Or 3 sessions? lol I kinda just wanna have an idea. Also, a big congratulations to those who have been accepted, you're all going to make great docs! 🙂

WHY did my interview have to be the week before Labor Day? I've been waiting by the phone wondering if they'd call for an acceptance on a Labor Day weekend lmao

I thought they said we won't hear anything until after Wed. when they meet.

Well we were hoping to hear back in a week as well but the Labor Day weekend interrupted that sadly haha.
I interviewed Friday (8/31) and they said they are meeting Wed. Good luck to you maybe you will hear from them soon after that.

There are a number of pretty neat community service organizations. Since the area is very rural, the population really benefits from the school's involvement with the community. The services are really limited to health education and outside of the remote area medical clinics where students basically are only allowed to do OMM, there's probably something that fits your interests. You can be as involved or as not involved at you'd like to be at DCOM, but I just have to throw it out there that you really have to remember that your education >>>>> all school related activities. I've seen far too many students fail and neglect board studies for school activities because "being involved" was part of what many students know from undergrad. Your amount of involvement with activities and the community will not save you if you are brought in front of SPC for failing classes.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by tertiary hospitals, but all of the hospitals we rotate through are community teaching hospitals. At the end of your 2nd year, you are given the option to rank the various hospitals in terms of your preference. This is placed into a lottery and you basically end up getting assigned to one of the sites where you must do your "core" rotations (IM, peds, ob/gyn, gen surg etc). Every site has its pros and cons and talking to your 3rd and 4th year classmates when the time comes can help give you an idea of what to expect from each site. Scattered in between your core rotations are "selective" and "elective" rotations. 3rd and 4th year require a TON of being proactive on the students part because there are simply too many of us for the rotations coordinators to be able to tend to without students actively reaching out. Also, none of our hospitals are academic centers and most academic hospitals will not allow you to rotate with them until late in 3rd year or until your 4th year.

Can any current students mind sharing their experience with the town surrounding lmucom? I know the area is pretty rural but do you feel you can still get your necessities and or even luxury’s? Thanks!

What kind of questions do they ask
They mostly asked me why medicine/DO, what my hobbies are, where I see myself in 10-15 years, etc. pretty basic stuff. My interview was mostly about my hobbies.

So if we didn't get an interview this morning does that mean we have to wait for the next batch to be sent out, however long that may be?

What kind of questions do they ask
First, they asked why medicine and my response and their follow ups to my response took about 15 mins. of my interview time. This meant they didn't have time to ask many questions. It was mostly conversational without the stresses associated with being interviewed. There were no ethics scenarios posed or questions which were difficult to answer. The interview is blind to MCAT/GPA.

How important would the optional meet and greet with the students be by the way? I would have to take an extra day off work to attend because I'm flying in from far away.

The meet and great is completly optional, it just consists of meeting current medical students and figuring out whether the school is a fit for you. It is not apart of the formal interview process and is solely for you to informally learn about the school and surrounding area through speaking with current medical students. If it’ll cost too much money, or time off of work, then it’s not necessary at all as you get to speak with plenty of medical students on the day of your interview! That was just my takeaway though

II today!
Scheduling stuff is starting to become a nightmare, flying from Seattle to anywhere is so expensive...
It's honestly expensive anywhere. I'm coming from New Orleans and it's looking like $1,000 before hotel/car.
