2019-2020 Nova Southeastern University Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine (NSU-KPCOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

Well it looks like it won’t make landfall and they are in the bottom left quadrant, which is the best quadrant to be in if you had this situation.. hopefully, it will pass through on Tuesday and campus will reopen Wednesday and Thursday. They reopened their Puerto Rico campus the day after it passed them.
I would say the likelihood of this happening is approximately 5 percent but I would be happy to be wrong for y’all 🙂) has anyone tried calling jouseph?

Anyone else who interviewed on 8/13 still waiting to hear back about acceptance? Has there only been one wave of emails sent on 8/29?

I submitted my secondary a couple of weeks ago but was still waiting on my MD/DO letter, which I submitted and was received/uploaded by AACOMAS on Wednesday, 8/21. I called Nova the next day and was told that they download the applications every Wednesday, so I should wait till then to see if my app was complete. I received a phone call this Wednesday, 8/28 stating that my application still isn't complete due to the missing MD/DO letter. I let them know that I had uploaded it on 8/21 and she stated that I would just need to wait and no further action is required on my part. Is it typical to take this long to receive the letter? I just want to confirm that I should just be waiting... don't want another week to go by without action if there is some potential error that should be fixed on my part. Thanks for the input.

If they told you to wait why would anything we say be different? They’re the ones handling your application.

I don’t mean it in a mean way! But the moment you hit submit on your secondary it is out of our hands! They can use it as toilet paper for all we know, it is out of our hands.

No worries, I understand 🙂 I'm just being neurotic I suppose.

I was in the same situation before (letter uploaded but still incomplete) and just want to assure you that they do download the applications weekly. If you are worried, I would suggest calling in on Friday or even next Monday (9/9) if you still have not received a complete call by that time. However, there might be a delay in the process due to Dorian.

For the sake of transparency for this cycle and for ones in the future: How many people that interviewed in August did not hear back in that first wave?

QUESTION: for the wave of people just accepted (CONGRATS) which school location are you choosing and why? Im OOS and don't really know which location is better.
If I end up going here I may choose Tampa but I’m really unsure just yet. Interested in hearing what others are choosing and why! Im also OOS

Will do! Thank you 🙂

Anybody have insight on the board scores for this school? I would love to attend but the first time pass rates are pretty low and the website hasn’t been updated since 2016/17

They have changed their curriculum to address this issue precisely. They are pretty much making everything board focused now.

So how is their curriculum? What about the rotation sites? I’m trying to weight the plus and the minuses of this school

Curriculum is new — systems based. Which is a positive as it is going with the trend of medical education in this country. It is also being more boards based— on Interview day they said the word boards like 30 times— so it seems they are heading in the right direction. Obviously — when you are on the beginning of a curriculum change there will be growing pains, but what comes with that is an understanding from the administration. Aka they know it’s going to have areas that need improvement so they will be understanding. And the students there say they are already receptive to feedback. But if we’re being honest most curriculums are very similar across all medical schools.

As far as clinical rotations they are some of the best in the country. Broward and Miami Health systems are some of the strongest in the country and have arguably the most diverse patient populations. In my opinion the clinical rotations are their biggest strength.

Thanks a lot for that informative answer

Is there any actual true secondary essay? It just seems like alot of questions but nothing essay like.

Anyone hear about possible dates to reschedule interviews that originally were supposed to happen this week?

They're offering additional dates next week (there are only a couple of spots though) and in October for those of us who were re-scheduled for today's interview!

Hey could you please specify the dates that are being offered for the ppl being rescheduled?
10/08 was the earliest they could offer me if I didn't take this Tuesday 09/10! I didn't ask about any other dates because I immediately chose the date for next week.

For those who have received II and/or acceptances, does shadowing count for the question on the secondary that asks "List and briefly describe your significant health care-related volunteer activities since graduation from high school?"
Or is it strictly healthcare volunteer. I dont have too many healthcare volunteer hours, but I do have alot of volunteer hours in general. Should I include that?

I included my shadowing experience under that section because it was voluntary and I wasn’t paid for it.

I interview this Thursday. I have not received any essay prompts, where are these essay prompts everyone keeps referring too?

I’m pretty sure those are the secondary prompts, there is nothing additional when invited to interview

How do you know if your app is complete with all the required materials? The app portal doesnt state anything in regards to completion status

Are there any completed forms we need to bring with us on the day of our interview that we print off from the website?

For everyone that interviewed, do you interview at the Ft. Lauderdale campus or clearwater campus?

They said the admissions Committee meets once towards the end of each month and then the following week meets with the dean to finalize a decision. They also said the committee will meet in about 2 weeks. So with all that in mind I think by the first week of October we’ll all know where we stand

Complete phone call August 13th, and still heard nothing back. Who else is in the same boat?
Not quite the same boat for me, but possibly useful information:

Submitted Primary and secondary on July 23rd. I received the secondary complete call today (Sep 11... my professors took quite a while to submit LORs and Dorian delayed me even further).

I asked today during the complete phone call regarding the time frame for a possible II. She said that the IIs are generally expected between 4-8 weeks after the secondary completion call.

That probably will not prevent me from checking my Email 20 times a day anyway though.

Anyway, it has only barely been 4 weeks for you, so I'd just keep your fingers crossed 🙂
