I would like to just add, my group had a few M1's and they had stated the curriculum was the best its ever been as of now, yet said there is no "dedicated" boards time. NOVA stated several times at the interview they are not interested in preparing students for the USMLE, their goal is for you to be successful on COMLEX. They said students will take a mock comlex and pass before they are able to take the actual COMLEX. They also stated they provide resources such as First Aid and Pathoma.
 
Hi everyone! How many other applicants get assigned to each interview date? I am only applying to three medical schools in total (all DO) and the only one I've heard back from for an interview is NSU (my top choice since I live in Davie). Thanks for the help!

Gotcha, dang that kinda sucks, like its great that they’re prepping better for COMLEX boards but they should also be aware that most of their students are going to want to take the USMLE it’d be nice to just have a 12 week dedicated time to do that, I know current M1s who are pushing for that hopefully they make steps to accommodate that

For sure! Med school is rough, I'm sure you've heard that before but man I never thought it would be as exhausting as it is. I'm only 10 weeks into this and I feel like I've aged at least 2 years. I feel like every day is super long yet there is never enough time in the day to learn what you need to. They say medical school is like drinking out of a fire hydrant, this couldn't be more true. As stressful as it can be, I've never felt more fulfilled. Honestly its been a great experience so far. As far as the Tampa area goes, most of my classmates live in Solaris Key, The Sands, The Vue, The Grand Reserve, or Seazens. Rent is expensive here and I definitely recommend trying to find another student to live with. I personally live in Solaris Key which is about 1 mile from campus so it makes my commute very easy. I really like the complex but it is expensive. I can't comment on the Ft. Lauderdale area since I was only there for the interview. I definitely recommend reading up on student loans, especially the Grad plus loan if you anticipate having to take out loans to cover living expenses. Get all of your loans situated before you leave to start school. I also recommend a book called "Med School Uncensored" by Dr. Richard Beddingfield. He gives a very accurate depiction of what medical school is like so you will not be surprised once you get in. As far as being out of state, I'm not too sure what would be helpful. Florida drivers are terrible, there are tourists everywhere, and both Clearwater and Ft. Lauderdale are huge retirement communities. Also we get hurricanes, which are fun. If there is anything in particular you think of let me know! I'm always here for you guys!

They recently hired a couple professors who previously wrote questions for the board exams and they are trying to make our test questions more clinically based to prepare us for boards. They provide all of us with an online version of the USMLE Step 1 First Aid book as well!

It's nice to be able to learn all the content and test all of the subjects at once rather than take a one subject test while still trying to keep up with the other courses at the same time. They also did this to make it more similar to board exams. We just finished our 4th integrated exam (out of 8) and there's some stuff that I can't remember that we were tested on in the first 2 exams since we were only given 2 weeks to try to master the material. This usually results in just memorizing the material rather than actually understanding and learning the material. But hopefully it'll work out in the long run!

I just called the phone number at the bottom of the email and they told me that I have nothing outstanding despite the email saying so. Sounds like everyone got the same email that was accepted. Wouldn't worry about it.

I think if you are applying now instead of when the portal first opened than you shouldn't apply, considering you have a sub 500 mcat. I would focus on retaking and scoring at least 500. Especially if this is a school that is a top choice for you then I wouldn't risk being a reapplicant. If waiting another application cycle is a problem then I would apply to a few schools that are low on your list and if you do happen to be a reapplicant for those then whatever it was worth a shot.

Thank you! I think I will apply to more schools and see how it goes. But if not then I'll retake and apply here again.
 
So a current student told me the dedicated time is 5 weeks, which is actually very normal when compared to normal schools, so disregard my comments about the lack of dedicated, I was just uneducated.
 
Anyone know how long they interview and where the cycle is at so far? Complete phone call 8/6, but radio silence since then. As a FL resident with a 4.0, 511, thought I would have heard from now, especially with some other friends hearing back super quickly post secondary submission...
 
I'll be interviewing tomorrow, and I asked if there was another back-up time and they said they wouldn't be able to call me back until Oct. 16th for November interviews.
 
Rejected letter came in the mail on Sept 26th for me. Anyone also get rejected from NOVA? honestly came as a big shock, i have so many M1 with way lower stats than me and I thought I had a decent application. Anyone know how to get feedback, if even possible?

Perhaps call and ask if providing feedback is possible? Most schools do provide feedback but towards late Spring. It doesnt hurt to ask NOVA!

I called and the person said to email the people who signed the reject letter but they don't have emails on the letter and i looked them up online and I could only find one of them and they are with college of pharmacy and they only have the college of pharmacy email link for that person which is pretty dang weird.
 
Anyone know how the interview is? traditional or MMI? How many people interviewing you?
 
Decided to add this school to my list late in the game and sent my primary today. Any chance at II? I'm out of state. 506 MCAT, 3.4 GPA. Currently in masters program with a 3.7.

Is the name Jermila? I met her at my interview and she said she was transferring to the DO school from the pharmacy program so it might just be that her info isn’t updated on the school website.

clearwater is brand spankin' new! the design is very modern, think lots of glass walls and fancy lighting. they stressed that each campus is 100% equal in what they offer students. Ft. Lauderdale campus was also really nice but not aaas modern.

What about the surroundings. I heard Clearwater beach is right next to the campus and very beautiful too. And traffic? I think there were a lot of tourists around Ft Lauderdale and it was very vibrant. Is it the same in Clearwater?

You and me both. I got one too! Oh well just means that thats a wrap with NSU. Wish you all who are following this page the best of luck and you never know maybe we may one day cross paths or work with each other when we ALL become physicians which I KNOW that will definitely happen!!! 🙂
 
Got the R today which is fine, bound to happen. However, on my application the MCAT score is not updated, it has the September 2017 MCAT I took (497); and not my most recent on from August 9th, 2019.

Do I ask NOVA if they knew about this more recent exam?

My account said the same thing before I got my R and I called them for it to make sure they had both MCATs and they said they did, but it can't hurt to call, they are very good with answering calls

Same exact thing happened to me. I called last week to see if they received my updated MCAT and they answered that they had not, but that they would see it in a future download. Less than a week later I received my R in the mail.
When I called today, I spoke to a very nice admissions counselor who said that he could see both MCATS.
So who knows??

I see you’re really interested in this school and I know it’ll show during your interview. Just be yourself, be engaged. I made sure to give them as much information as possible with each answer since they don’t have a secondary and this is the only chance you got to show off how great and likable you are. Be ready to introduce yourself, discuss any part of your application, your study techniques, leisure activities, why DO, why Nova... My greatest fear was to appear robotic because I rehearsed answers to questions like tell me about yourself and why DO, medicine, this school...but luckily with the right balance between feeling comfortable and stressed i remembered my talking points but not my exact answers haha
Hopeful to see you next year

thank you so much! I hope to see you too! I have tried to refrain from rehearsing too much to stay more on the authentic side but I think I'll rehearse those big questions more over this weekend, you're so right when you say the secondary didn't show much so I have to really make this worth it!

Current M3 responding to clear up board score questions. The curriculum/ style of lecture is irrelevant to how you will perform on boards. A systems based approach makes it easier (IMO) to study for boards, but I was apart of the old curriculum at nova and did very well on boards (250 step, 672 COMLEX). You are provided adequate Dedicated time (we were given 8+ weeks between end of classes and rotation starting, I personally used 5.5 weeks and even that was pushing it because of getting burned out). Your board time is what you make of it and how much work and effort you put forth. Nova prepares you with the knowledge foundation you need to approach board prep

Check your mailbox, but hopefully you did not get a rejection.... they have been sending a lot of rejections at this time.
 
Does anyone know if the Intent to Enroll and other forms that were mailed with our acceptances should be sent in ASAP or should we wait until we actually submit the deposit?

I submitted my forms about two weeks before paying my deposit, it doesn’t really matter. But nothing reserves your seat except the deposit so I would prioritize that.

Thank you! I'm waiting as long as possible to submit my deposit so I have time to fully weigh my options, but I think I'll send the forms now. 🙂
