FWIW, during my interview, UTHSC said they may be switching to P/F after the 2020/2021 academic year. However, I don't know if that's been advertised in the past lol
I have a friend who’s an M1 who was told the same thing last year and I was told the same thing during my interview. HOWEVER my interviewer said “soon” so the fact that you were told a year is interesting to say the least.

I may have not remembered what was exactly said; I interviewed almost 2 months ago lol. But it's very interesting that your friend was told the same thing last year. I wonder if switching to a P/F grading system will be too big of an overhaul that they want to deal with? I'm not sure since I'm not a teacher or have any idea how curriculum changes take place.

I was wondering how receptive UTHSC is in terms of away rotations at non-affiliated hospitals (i.e. in other states). Do you know any M3/M4s that have done this?

Another thing: letter grades. I know it’s rare to say the least to have a medical school still using letter grading. Do you think this has affected you in anyway. I know it’s hard to gauge since you’ve only got your perspective but this is kinda what separates UTHSC from other schools for me (that and the 30K difference lol).

I would say the school is very receptive to away rotations, as I would expect most schools are. You have to do your M3 core clerkships at the home institution, but that can be Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga, or Knoxville. Almost all of my friends did at least one away rotation during fourth year. Many of my classmates did multiple. You get credit for them as electives in our fourth year. Have you had schools that are not receptive?

As far as letter grades are concerned I'm sure you'll find a lot of different opinions. While it was more stressful than I imagine true pass/fail, I really didnt mind it. For most of the classes there was solid overlap between class tests and board study materials that made doing well on the class tests a reasonable goal. Also, if you do well it is a chance to distinguish yourself. Means that class rank and AOA are not decided exclusively on your M3 grades.Pretty much every (?) School has graded clerkships too

I've been told by several different higher ups thats it's happening, Im just not sure when.

Hi everyone! Congrats to those accepted! I’m interviewing here tomorrow and looking for any pointers/things you guys would have liked to know before your interview day. Thanks so much!

I thought it was a pretty standard interview. One interviewer will give you more behavioral/ethical questions while another is tasked with probing your academic readiness for med school.

Know yourself/why medicine and if you have any academic blemishes, be ready to explain them.

Good luck!

Apparently the discrepancy here is caused by LCME accreditation in ~2 years. They won't be able to implement P/F fast enough to assess it via Step 1 score trends which is a major benchmark for a school's curriculum evaluation. That said, the faculty are pretty split on it and some want to implement it immediately but they're still being conservative.

Hi! New here. I’m still waiting for an II. I’m losing hope. I just want something! This waiting game is torturous. I know UT is notorious for being slow. Should I expect a rejection letter anytime soon?

Did you get a secondary? A secondary = II at UTHSC. If not, when were you complete?

Yes I received a secondary! I received a complete email on 11/20. I didn’t know that a secondary=II! I just hate it’s taking so long. Does anyone know how long it usually takes to hear back after you’re complete?

I’ve been complete since 8/27 and still haven’t heard anything so it could take forever lol

Could be tomorrow, could be the middle of April. Unfortunately there is no way to know 🙁 the order they send out secondaries appears to have no relationship with when they interview people

I have a husband and 2 kids to move, so I hope I hear something back soon so we can figure out housing. I’ve been admitted into a D.O. program, so I’m just going to focus on that until I hear something back. Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted, and good luck to those waiting!

Anyone not get a secondary yet but also not get an R? Starting to wonder if I still have a chance haha

I got a secondary (complete 9/20) but have yet to receive a II. A friend of mine applied here a couple of times (ended up going somewhere else) and said that if you get a secondary you'll get a II, but it might be a while until you get one so hang in there. Hopefully, it will be soon 🙂

Interviewed back in October - has anyone else who interviewed back then heard anything?

I would give Nelson Strother a call. Did he mention when decisions would be made for your interview group?

I got a secondary here, and received a complete email on 10/1, but no interview. Are they receptive to updates? And has anyone submitted updates who knows how to go about that...?

We were told that our applications would be considered in the first round of review, and could possibly be considered for subsequent rounds of review, potentially until the end of the cycle. Which I am totally fine with, but I am just wondering about how long their application cycle usually is.

It seems odd to me that you havent heard back by now. I would call the admissions diane in admissions and check up on it. They should have made your decision by now, but I could be wrong.

Interviewed at UTHSC yesterday and that I was a really awesome campus and faculty. They said the admissions committee was going to meet this Friday but they would send letters out next Friday. I’m curious why they called many other people before but are sending us letters in the mail?

Congrats on the interview!! I was wondering how the interview process was here. Are there a lot of difficult/ ethical questions From the interviewers or are they just trying to get to know you better?

Not too sure WHY, but when I got the call, the person said they wanted to do it as "a present" for our group for the holidays.

The next day I got the acceptance packet

Well they are meeting every Friday now so hopefully the process speeds up a little.

I thought it was a very conversational interview. I could hardly tell which interview was academic and which was personal. The questions asked were very simple and easy to answer.

Are they able to review your application during both of the interviews? Or is the personal interview a blind interview, if anyone knows?

Both interviewers can see your application. The only difference is that the academic interviewer can see your grades and MCAT while the personal interviewer cannot. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah that is exactly what they told us yesterday.

To be honest, with my interview, I had a good amount of medical ethics questions. Was also conversational as well. But I would still brush up on current issues in healthcare too. Know your AMCAS as well

They told me at my interview that they would just send letters in the mail. Then I got a call haha so it might just depend on the day.
