Same. Said it would be letters, but they called to notify me of acceptance. Received the letter a couple of days later.
 
I sent thank you emails to Dean Strother, Ms. Harris and both interviewers. Only Strother emailed me back. Did anyone else have this problem?

Most interviewers don’t respond to you. It’s just part of the process. And I’m sure Diane will come around eventually. Dean Strother is super responsive in general.

I got my call the Wednesday after they had their committee meeting.

I had the same. Don't be too shocked about this.
 
I guess this must mean waitlist/rejection because they would have called on Wednesday if I were accepted?

I got the email Wednesday and a call Thursday. But they don't always call. So don't give up hope.
 
I recently got accepted to a different med school that is comparable to UTHSC but is in state to me. I have very strong ties to Tennessee and Memphis. Would it be too late to send an update letter saying I’m still interested as an OOS who hasn’t gotten a secondary yet?

The website says they send out secondary invites through mid-january. Jan is almost over, but if it's a school you're interested in, I'd at least inquire so they don't keep you waiting. An MD friend of mine (20+ years ago) was accepted to etsu in Tennessee but wanted to go to uthsc instead so he called admissions and told them he was accepted elsewhere and if they wanted him, they better show some interest. Idk if that was before or after having an interview, I'd assume after. But if that's still appropriate etiquette, I'd tell them you've been accepted elsewhere but still have a strong interest in uthsc if they have a strong interest in you. Worth a shot maybe.

Has anyone who still hasn’t gotten an interview called or emailed to confirm they will be interviewed for sure?

I emailed Strother on New Year’s Eve and he responded back that day. He told me I was on the list to be interviewed soon. I got my II the 14th of Jan. He is super friendly and responsive. I would email him or call as soon as you can.

What do you think would happen if I called and asked if I was accepted? Kidding of course, but it’s so tempting. They’re supposed to mail my letter on Friday and I’m literally dying. I just want to call, because they know my fate right now.

A friend of mine that is currently an M4 called Diane Harris after they met and basically said "I wanna cancel my interview at another school if I was accepted to UTHSC, but need to do so now... can you just tell me if I'm in?" and Diane (champion of sanity) told her she'd been accepted. I can't promise this always works, but it is an option haha.

I agree that is super tempting because I actually have an interview that, if I get accepted at Memphis, I need to cancel.

If you interviewed then and they said they'd get to reviewing your file on that Friday (the 24th,) then I wouldnt honestly expect them to get back to you til this time next week.
 
When you sent update letters, did you send them to Ms. Harris or Dean Strother?

What exactly did you say? I wouldn’t even know how to word it but I also kinda wanna check in. I’m born and raised from Memphis, anxiously waiting on this II...

I just told him who I was and when I was complete. I also said if there was anything else that was needed. I ended by thanking him for his time. He seems like a great guy that really cares.
