I'm holding out hope! We only know of one person so far with the tool (CONGRATS btw that's such a relief i can imagine) so it may be that they're taking a day or two with it all. The rule is they have to notify AMCAS within 24 hours (starting May 1) of "all admissions actions". That doesn't mean that they necessarily had to decide on all of us within 24hrs of May 1! So they just may not be done with all their decisions. The letter I received when I was put on hold did say that it might not be until May 8 that they make all their decisions. This stinks, but I'm gonna use it to keep some hope the next 6 days at least. Best of luck guys!!

This is what Ms. Harris said in an email 4 days ago: "The UT Health Science Center College of Medicine Admissions Committee will make ALL final decisions, at our Friday, May 1 admissions committee meeting." So maybe they didn't get through all of the decisions on May 1? Seems unlikely though because scheduling another meeting is difficult given so many people are involved. Who knows though.

I wouldn't give up hope either because UTHSC hasn't exactly kept to a strict schedule these past few months (not that I blame them...very difficult times). But, if we are being realistic, it doesn't look great for us.

Also, where are all the people who are also on hold and were blowing up the thread yesterday?! Have y'all checked CYSM? We need more data lol

I’m an on hold with nothing up! So maybe I am just WL and in denial hahaha. But I’m just trying to make myself be chill until a lot of people have the button or my letter comes in mail. Yeah schedule seems to have gone out the window for everybody in every aspect of life bc of Covid19 so who knows lol
Also I believe they have to notify Amcas within 24hrs of informing YOU of the decision, not simply just within 24hrs of when they make it. Again this is just from me doing lots of googling and reading don’t quote me

For data purposes: interviewed early April, got email on 4/30 saying decision letter/interview packet are being mailed, still no mail, still nothing on CYMS

If they're continuing interviews next week, there would have to be some sort of meeting I imagine

Breaking news: just got interview packet and decision letter in mail. The letter was dated 4/17 and it says I’m on hold. Don’t know what to make of this?

interviewed 4/15, just got a letter in the mail saying I was placed on Hold and that final decisions would be made by April 30. (it's may 2??) Said, a letter stating your acceptance or alternate list status would be mailed by May 8. Assuming that I have no CYMS tool change, and it is May 2, I can assume I was waitlisted

I Should add that I’m assuming that i have been waitlisted. Just trying to wait long enough before i ask Nelson Strother where i am on it.

Semi-related...I wish they could be more specific than top, middle, or bottom third on the waitlist because last year only around 20ish people came off the waitlist compared to 60-70 in previous years, and coincidently the top third of the waitlist is around 60-70 people. So “top third” doesn’t seem to mean as much as it used to.

so based off the entering class of 2019, I would assume they took 97 people off the waitlist? That numbers seems wayyy too high so pls correct me if I’m wrong! I have no clue how to interpret the offers of A’s vs enrollees
How did you get your info of 20 people coming off the waitlist recently?

I just the interview packet in the mail. It was dated 4/30. I am local to Memphis.

ZOOM interview 4/22. No other updates or emails since then.

They most likely have not pulled anyone off of the waitlist yet this year - that movement will be coming in the next few weeks. 267 offers of acceptance means how many offers they have released, but people will attend other schools as well. 170 new enrollees is their standard class size, so my guess is that's just a placeholder for how many seats they will have filled, not necessarily how many are filled today.

About 20 people came off of the waitlist last year, which is much fewer than years past where around 60-65 came off.

is the 20 including the number of people who got taken off of hold without ever being technically on a waitlist?

Nope, these 20ish people had been on the actual waitlist. I'm not sure the number who went from being on hold to being straight accepted

That screenshot was last years data.

I can’t remember if the 20ish number was from last year’s thread or from talking to Nelson Strother, since I was on the waitlist last year too. I’ll go look at the past thread.

There is no rule that they can only give 170 offers before April 30 and then the 97 offers after that go to waitlist spots. Some of the movement (they offer a spot to someone and that applicant turns it down) happens before April 30. How much exactly? We can’t know for sure, but it definitely isn’t 0.

One last thing, it was 20ish spots from the waitlist last year, so that’s in addition to people who were accepted straight from the hold list. Every year is unfortunately different and with COVID added to the mix, this stuff is almost impossible to predict. Maybe that number of accepted straight from hold is 0 this year for whatever reason, or maybe Diane Harris hasn’t had the time to put names into CYMS and 30 people will be accepted on Monday. Guessing what is going to happen is basically like playing blackjack except we aren’t allowed in the casino, the rules change every year, and when we do get a glimpse of the table, the game is already over.

Just checked last year's thread...the waitlist broke 30 in mid-July. About a spot a week opened up for the 4 weeks before that. Not updates after that.

Because only one person has seen a CYMS change and they hadn’t previously been in the hold category, I would say everyone on hold can relax a little if they haven’t seen a change. Due to outstanding circumstances, they could not be taking people off hold just yet! Not sure if I am right, but figured we could all use some positive thinking.

May 4th 0900 CST: So far, no updates from CYMS yet.
FB Class of 2024: 128 (May 2nd); +1 today 129 total members (+13 in the last week).

Anybody heard anything yet? (I guess it's still a little early) This seems to be the week we all should find out and to look out for some movement.

Just want to chime in for an updated look. There are definitely more than a handfull (I estimate ~10 or a few more) people in that group that are not incoming students, there are quite a few current students that are admins/trying to fill roomates. Just so you are aware.

For sure! It just makes me feel a little better that there's still room for a few.

can you share your timeline pleaseeee?
Interviewed in person early March.
I was told my app was discussed on 4/3 and that my letter would be mailed 4/9.
I was then told on 4/16 that my letter was mistakenly never mailed and it would be sent out on 4/17. I never received a letter.
On 4/19 I was chosen for another interview via Zoom on 4/22.
I interviewed on 4/22 and have since heard nothing except seeing them on CYMS. No email or letter.
I will probably reach out to them to make sure they aren't pranking me lol

Thank you to everyone for your encouragement. I know this is a difficult and uncertain time for many of us, but DON'T GIVE UP HOPE!

So if I put on my conspiracy theorist hat, a possible timeline which would explain the data of the past week or so would be:

they discussed your app on 04/24 (two Friday ago) and accepted you, sent your acceptance packet the next Friday (05/01) as they normally do, and your acceptance showed up in CYSM that same day. In other words, UTHSC is putting acceptances into CYSM within 24 hours of sending letters, not within 24 hours of making a decision. People taken off hold (at the 05/01 meeting) will have their letters sent this Friday (05/08) and be put into CYSM this Friday as well.

here’s another timeline! zoom interviewed last week- wednesday 4/29. and received a virtual tour via google powerpoint thursday night. nothing in CYMS and no other emails.

here’s another timeline updated: interviewed middle of april, received the virtual tour email on 4/20, letter of being on Hold dated 4/24, received letter on 5/2, and nothing in CYMS.

but my letter said all final decisions were made by April 30 UNLESS I was notified otherwise?? how does that fit in

On April 28, I was notified via an email from Diane Harris that all final decisions would be made on May 1. My hold letter said the same thing originally as yours (April 30) so they did keep to their word.

They don’t have to notify AMCAS of the final decision until they’ve notified us. So decision could be made, but the 24hr tuner to notify AMCAS won’t start til letters are in the mail (which I believe they said would be by May 8?)
Hope this helps! (This is what I understand to be the process but I am not 100% sure if this)

I received a paper letter and an email, on different dates and saying different things. The hold letter (snail mail) I received in late March said "all decisions by April 30 and we will let you know if that changes." The email I received on April 28 said "ALL decisions will by made at the May 1 meeting."

That isn't what AAMC's policy says and isn't what they did last year, but of course every year is different. It isn't like AAMC is going to go and fine them or something, so maybe that is how it is working this year?

What @excitedmedapp posted is exactly how it works. I was wrong!

Here’s where it says it in the traffic rules!
