2020-2021 Boston University

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
do u guys really think schools like BU, Wake Forest, etc read all the applications? I feel like there is no way haha but maybe im just pessimistic...at a certain point i feel like the adcom just looks at stats, activity titles, if nothing seems interesting BAM...R pile lmao

Wouldnt be surprised. I mean even schools like Duke with 10 crazy long essays. I'm not entirely convinced adcoms really look in that much detail at all.

Does anyone have a screenshot of the email? I haven’t seen anyone post a screenshot and I feel like only one person received it.....

There's a post on Reddit about the email. I was complete 7/20 so I think that's why I've received the email.

I need to upload a different picture but the first one I uploaded is "saved" and I can't figure out how to upload a different one. Any ideas?

You may have to email the admissions office for that :/

I got an II last week - anyone know the interview schedule? I know it starts at 9 but idk how long it goes.
Also was anyone able to sign up for the student panel? My portal didn't have a link to it.

My interview starts at 1; I think it must be variable.

The student panel is also not linked for me. I think they maybe just haven't gotten times together yet.

BU does everything in bulk mass, don't feel bad about not getting an interview there, could be a good thing as there are a lot of toxic third year rotations and some faculty can be nice to some students and downright belligerent and mean to other students for no apparent reasons. Use it as a safety school, you will cry when you see that other schools treat their students with at least a small modicum of respect, if you want to do research and global health, don't do BU as the tuition and poor foundation won't serve you well (you need to augment studying for the boards will quality review materials and textbooks, not what BU provides). Definitely recommend Tufts, Georgetown, Mayo and state schools over BU.

Do you have sources? Also - I think most would recommend Mayo above almost any school lol

For those who have received an interview invite, has anyone gotten any information about the introduction event with Dr. Kristen Goodell? I registered for the event scheduled for tomorrow, but I have not received a zoom link or anything.

what do u mean by bulk mass? do u have additional insights? also, r u a current student?

For the intro session with Dr. Goodell, are the times for the Eastern timezone?

Does anyone know what to expect from the panel with Dr. Goodell?

All private medical school are expensive so not sure what you were expetecing.
Of course. I’m talking about them saying “we’re really expensive and this is a big weakness” on multiple pages of their website lol. Just seems like odd marketing. Made me chuckle at least

The poster's comment doesn't warrant your dismissive reply. Yes, all private schools are expensive. Perhaps you aren't familiar with BU and BUSM tuition, but it is unusually expensive. And, to the poster's point, BUSM is so expensive that they have an FAQ on their website that attempts to explain why they are so expensive. No other medical school that I am aware of explicitly acknowledges on their own website that their school is extraordinarily expensive. So, yes MediocreClimber, I found it interesting, too.

I think it's pretty cool BU specifically talks about negative aspects of their school too tbh

Sure.

I have the same question. I'm assuming its 9am EST? I'm also not sure what to wear for this panel... is it formal or casual?

info sessions and panels are always casual. I'm wearing my alma mater t-shirt tomorrow. it's an orange t-shirt if you care lol

But for the interview, definitely dress professionally!

@bossports Yeah, i'm in the same boat as you. I have no idea what's going on with this tomorrow if we're being completely honest lol.

Edit: OH. just saw your subsequent conversation-- that was really helpful, thanks!

Perhaps they want to make sure future students get it, and come up with a good financial plan to handle debt post-graduation.
