2020-2021 Central Michigan

Anyone have any insights on when more decisions will be released? I'm hoping for the beginning of March considering that they just did the beginning and end of February.

I was looking at the thread from last year and it was slightly different bc they put people on hold after their interviews if they weren't initially accepted but then people didn't hear until mid-late April and most were WL and post II-R's

I looked at it, too, but this cycle seems weird as there was only 1 acceptance from Oct/Nov in this thread so far. I'm hoping that the next round of decisions will be for those that interviewed in 2020 seeing as though they just did a round for those interviewed in 2021.

Tbh from what I'm seeing If we dont hear back within a month, then it's more likely going to be a WL or a R. I havent seen a lot of acceptances either, but we gotta remember that not everyone comments on SDN and they have a very small class so they won't be sending too many acceptances. I thought my interview went well but ig adcoms dont think so 🙁

I thought that too, but seeing the relatively huge wave of decisions for people that interviewed in September and December, is unsettling to me. I'd chalk it up to this year being weird with the pandemic, but I have no clue what is going on.

Also, for people that interviewed in October, there was a glitch in the system for at least one of the interview days that forced them to reschedule an entire day's worth of interviewees (could've been more, I only know of the one glitch because I was affected by it), so it's also possible that that issue backed them up, too.

I think only 2 people that interviewed in December posted they got accepted one was in January the other got accepted earlier this month so I think a lot of people that interviewed in December are still waiting.

So, yeah, the only thing that really happened was the 10/15 decision dump and then people that interviewed in September getting decisions in January. Even if sdn is not representative of the applicant pool, it's kind of weird that a bunch of people that interviewed in September got a decision and posted about it, but every other month has been pretty quiet. Hoping for a decision dump soon.

It is pretty hard to know exactly what they are doing but just for reference I found the 2025 facebook group Nhóm Facebook which has 66 members as of right now and the one from the class of 2024 had 113 so probably like 40% of acceptances for the class still need to go out based on those numbers unless people just haven't joined it yet.

That definitely makes me feel a lot better considering how far into the cycle we already are

Because I interviewed 10 days before my acceptance and people form Oct/Nov haven't heard, plus I don't think I'm a spectacular applicant unless I just killed the interview lol

Your stats are great though! You deserved it!

For a letter of intent, should it be just uploaded to the portal or sent to the director of admissions?

I think both. I'm really tempted to send one b/c of the radio silence, but I'm also hesitant to send one b/c I sent an update a little over a month ago.

I interviewed 1/22 and haven't heard back. I think a lot of Oct/Nov also didn't hear anything yet lol I'm hoping we hear something in the next two weeks
From what it seems like, decisions usually come out on weeks 2&4 of a particular month

Edit: Take this with a grain of salt; I'm just going off of rough trends!

For those who interviewed in January, when did they say you would hear back?

P.S. November gang here
They did not specify a date. They just said the committee meets every couple of weeks to review applicants. I emailed admissions recently and they said if you haven’t heard back then you are still under consideration and they haven’t really made a decision on your app yet.

Can any current students talk about getting involved in EC's/clubs? I've heard horror stories where at some schools, you have to apply to join a club and you can actually be rejected from joining a club.

Nothing like that here. We have SIGs (Student Interest Groyps) and a full list of current SIGs is available on the CMED website. You can also start your own if you think the school could benefit from one. I don't think any of the SIGs have an apply to participate process. They'll have a SIG fair in the fall where you can go to the different SIG tables (for us it was virtual so we had Teams rooms) and see which ones you want to participate in!

Does anyone have any advice for the interview as well as the group interview? This is my first MMI interview and I've just been going over practice questions online.

That's what I did and I got comments from nearly every interviewer that I answered the question well and that they liked what I pointed out. It's all practice and taking advice from places like BeMo. I had a pretty good process to answer the question, which was state the issue, explain why the issue is an issue, give a recommendation, explain the recommendation, and defend th recommendation. I practiced on my family members non-stop! For the group interview, it's really just a conversation, so just don't interject but definitely make sure you offer your ideas and opinions!!

That's awesome to hear, thanks so much for taking the time to answer!!!

Just checked MSAR and it says approximately 100 students are placed on the WL and eventually around 60 get accepted.
This actually is a really promising statistic. They only interview around 400 applicants, and have an incoming class of a little over 100. Since CMU is not a "top" school for a lot of people, a good amount will deny acceptance, and those that are placed on the WL can, likely, have an acceptance elsewhere and withdraw their application. Therefore, if you get on the waitlist, you have a pretty high chance of getting in.
