2020-2021 Drexel

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those of you who were placed on hold, can I ask if you received an email with that information? Or do you have to go to the portal? TIA!

Soooo, I am terrified that I am going to end up with the Surgeon-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Does anyone have any thoughts on the best way to deal with that if it does happen? Are they trying to stress test you? Are they wanting to see you show some spine and bite back? Or are they just wanting to grind you into submission?

Yes all of that and a little bit a pure fun! I think the best thing you can do is to just be confident. Project humble vibes lol. Answer your questions in a relaxed calm manner and remember to always ask them questions too (so many people forget to do this)

Weird, I had that surgeon as my interviewer and he was chill and nice to talk to. Maybe I caught him on a good day. Either way, focus on what you can control, just prepare.

Do they usually send out acceptances in waves? Interviewed early November and am feeling nervous.
They release acceptance decisions once a month. These are the dates they have released so far on the portal.

2021 Decision Release Dates for interviewed applicants:

October 30, 2020

November 20, 2020

December 18, 2020

January 22, 2021

February 19, 2021

Do we think these are released in alphabetic order today? I'm sounding neurotic but I'm at the beginning of the alphabet so I'm getting nervous!

Does the student interview actually factor into admissions decisions? Mine was very much not an interview so idk what to think
do you mean this in a good way or bad way? what was the overall vibe of the student interview?

I think smiley754 meant waves throughout the day.

Does anybody know an online resource where I can find specific emails for contacts from the admissions office?

Yes, the surgeon discussed previously in this thread :/
Smh I had him too. It was definitely tough. Didn’t go badly for me but didn’t go great either. So I have no idea what to expect.

Yes +1 on this. This was my approach exactly and it went ok, not great but not terrible either. Although he was very condescending when answering my questions lol so I guess you just gotta deal with that. So I asked a few questions and the interview was over after only 15 min. Don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing 🤷🏽‍♀️

Wow you are the first I’ve heard with a positive experience. So good for you!

Yeah I think you just need to remain calm and collected. I think he's just a cranky, older, stereotypical male surgeon. I wouldn't worry about trying to please or kiss up to him. Just stay calm, try not to be too naïve sounding, and be honest and straightforward. The interview won't be casual and conversational, so don't get worried or upset about that. Like another poster said, be confident and mature but also humble lol.

I have not seen a single person speak of a positive interview experience with him smh

I also thought he was chill. Just a snarky old surgeon. Don't sound like a kid and be honest.

On topic: I only have been witness to Drexel adcom sessions so I can only speak to their process. It’s pretty faithful to the idea of a holistic review; the committee literally pours over every detail. It’s so weird to see professors’ personalities change. Some of the ones that critique students the hardest in class/lab are also the ones that fight tooth and nail for students who have red flags but other parts of their application indicate they’ll be great physicians.

😉
