2020-2021 Loyola (Stritch)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Ok now within two days it went from:

(Sept 2) "Your file has been initially reviewed by the Committee on Admissions. Your file will be held for further review later in the cycle. The review process is continuous from now until the conclusion of our interview season in February. If you wish to update your file, please do so within your portal. Thank you for your interest in Loyola University Chicago-Stritch School of Medicine."

To

(Sept 4) "Your file is complete and currently undergoing a review by our committee. Thank you for applying to Loyola University Chicago-Stritch School of Medicine."

Isn't this backward?? It went back into review??
This also happened to me!

While I understand that it is very frustrating to have the messages change: truly nothing matters unless you get an interview invite. Whether it says review, or hold, doesn’t matter. You are going to either get an interview or you aren’t 🙂

Anyone have the primary app submitted early September and still have not received a secondary yet?

Just out of curiosity, is anyone still left on hold? If so, what are your stats?

Anyone that got an II what was your turnaround time after submission/complete?

Has anyone that interviewed sent Thank you emails/letters of interest? This is my realistic top choice school and wanted to send a thank you to my interviewers while stating that I'm extremely interested in the school. Wondering if this is a good or bad idea.

You absolutely should.

Have you (interviewed individuals) seen the new campus tour video they emailed out last week? The campus is so beautiful
😍

For those who have already interviewed here this cycle, how long did your interview last? I just received an email stating that it's an all day interview, from 9:30am - 3:30 pm central time.

I interviewed here but never received this email with the new campus tour video!!! ah 🙁

Are you sure?? 🙁 It was sent under the title "Virtual Tour of campus now available" last Friday and said:

Hello all SSOM interviewees!
The virtual tour of our campus has been added to the Additional Resources page. You can access it by logging into your applicant portal. Check it out!

I wouldn't read too much into it actually unless there are a significant number of others that have not received the email either.

That sounds about right from what I remember!!

For those that interviewed, how were the tours/ presentations/ lecture times. Did everyone keep their cameras on? Were other interviewees asking questions? Thanks!!

On the portal there should be a "Your Interview Day" tab. It gives you a breakdown schedule for the day. You should have 2 45 minute interview slots.

Overall it was a good interview experience. I think the times were fine. They gave us a virtual tour and let us watch an actual lecture from a pathology class. There was an icebreaker session where a few staff from the admissions office participated as well. Everyone kept their cameras on (except during our break). No one really asked questions except during the student panel (and interviews I would assume). Don't stress too much about it being on zoom. The staff are really chill and they understand this is a new experience to us. The first time I was supposed to talk my mic was muted and the admissions person was nice and told me that my mic was muted and we had a good laugh about it!

Thanks! I don't have the actual times and events of the day posted just yet on my "Your Interview Day" tab. But, they told me to keep an eye out. From what I gather, I think they post all the details a few days before the interview date.

Did anyone submit the first week of August and hear back already? It's been complete silence for me

Do you guys think it is okay if I wrote more than 500 words for the first prompt? 🙁 I'm an idiot and I do not think that I realized that they asked for 500 words or less per response 😳 I double checked my other responses and most of them were between 100 - 450 words per response. Most of them being closer to 100ish or so words.

Did u submit already/ how over are you

I submitted a little over a month ago and just realized. I am over by like 200 words. I kept the other ones short so I'm hoping that's okay? If that's not okay then idk anymore lol

I think you should not stress over it. They are not going to reject you for writing more than the word limits on one prompt.
Thank you! That is what I hoped but I needed to hear it from someone else. Hahaha

Do any of you who have already completed your interviews have any advice on how to prepare for interview day? Congrats to everyone who has interviewed so far 🙂

It was super conversational! Just make sure you know your application, they'll def ask to elaborate on some some activities

I second this. I've interviewed at a few places at this point, and Loyola's was the most thorough. I didn't get any ethical questions, but I know a few people who did, so I'd at least be prepared to reason through an ethical issue (stem cell research, abortion, etc.).

For those who have interviewed, is your portal status still "Thank you for scheduling your virtual interview" or did it change?
You will have that status until your interview has submitted their stuff. It’s out of ur control 🙂 not worth worrying over

Any II lately? Really hoping to hear back soon as I really like this school from an outside perspective! Complete 8/31.

Make sure you know "Why medicine", "describe yourself" and "biggest weakness" questions. They didn't ask it exactly like that but I was asked basically those 3 same questions. Other than that I wouldn't stress. Very relaxed and conversational interview like prior people said.

Is anyone who's interviewing today still in the waiting room for the Zoom check-in? I thought it started at 9:30 CT
