You are correct. I was wrong and stand corrected. Thank you VERY much for coming back and setting me (and everyone else) straight. And shout out to Drexel for not massaging its numbers like just about everyone else does.

The hot topic for the past month has been what the pre-SOAP match rate is at various schools, because that number is obscured, everywhere, by the final match numbers that include SOAP. I am pretty sure Drexel did not actually publish its pre-SOAP number as its final match number. I know for a fact that about a dozen other schools I have checked do not do this, and in fact refuse to release their pre-SOAP numbers, because, to them, the only thing that counts is the final number.

The main match is the Match. SOAP is during Match Week but it isn't the Match. If you want to call people who are unmatched but then successfully SOAP as "matched" then that's just a semantics issue at this point.

Well now here's a follow up question. if national pre-Soap rate is 92.9% and drexel's pre-soap rate is 92%, how much different is the national MD post-soap rate compared to drexel's post-soap rate?

It turns out you are 1,000,000% correct. I was going by what all the others schools do, and did not bother to do my own research. My bad. I was told pre-match numbers are buried in the numbers reported by the schools. I never went to the NRMP data set, and did not carefully read the explanation on the website I linked.

Thanks again to @jbhlmk6712 for taking the time and make the effort to set the record straight before anyone did anything rash based on bad information being spread by me.

No problem! Hope it was helpful. That being said, 92% and being below the national average (even if only 0.9%) is disappointing. I truly hope Drexel gets it together for next year cause that tuition is not cheap lol.

BUT ALSO, if any of you choose to come here next year, I hope you enjoy it 🙂! Drexel is by no means a perfect med school, but it will give you an MD and the student body in general is great/ supportive. This will be my last post for now though haha

According to @jbhlmk6712, Drexel's post-SOAP rate was 100%. Based on the humiliation I have suffered tonight, I am going to go with that for now, and guess that no one has a better rate than that!

Nah. When you are only talking about one or two people, and they are matching in the SOAP, it's a rounding error.

As I alluded to, I spoke to an admissions director at one school who stated that ~10% unmatched pre-SOAP is typical, even at the very best schools, because some people just don't take good advice and reach too high. The schools' position is that as long as you land after SOAP, it's all good, which I don't agree with because I'd find having to SOAP to be extremely stressful.

Anyway, that's how they justify only publishing post-SOAP numbers, which might be why it takes them a few days after Match Day to put the information out. It honestly just never occurred to me that after a month that Drexel was putting out the pre-SOAP numbers that were available on 3/18, and that just about no one else shares.

Again, I am mortified I made this mistake and got anyone needlessly worked up. And again, for the record, mad props to Drexel. Most schools flat out refuse to share this information with us. 92% pre-SOAP to 100% post-SOAP is nothing at all to be ashamed of.

Well, it's not going to be 100% for everyone. Based on the fact that, as I said before, most schools I've seen report 96-98%, that's probably typical, with top schools being at 100% unless the unmatched students at those schools just refuse to settle and do something like take a research year before reapplying.

Residency match week: on Monday, you find out if you matched or not. If you didn't, you have like a week to call up a bunch of residency programs and find a seat. From my understanding, this process is called SOAP. Then, on Friday everyone finds out which exact program they matched to.

At this point, it is functionally equivalent to being on the WL. You are not rejected and also cannot select it as PTE. If you receive an A between now and 4/30, you'll have 2 weeks to make a decision, regardless of any other As you may hold. On or after 5/2, you'll have a week, just like anyone receiving an A off a WL. Good luck!!
 
Is movement on the WL even going to happen? I feel like after April 30th there will still be people who haven't even gotten a decision for their interview. Will most of the A's go to them?

Hey, it wasn't meant as a downer! It was meant to let you know that you are very much in the game, and to also let you know that they probably do not feel any pressure at this point to meet any predetermined deadline, due to just where we are in the cycle, and what that means for you as an applicant.

WL movement happens every year, and they seem to run late every year, due to their volumes and the fact that they just don't seem willing to staff adequately to deal with their volumes in a timely manner.

You may or may not be right about 4/30, but that won't mean anything with respect to who gets As. As will go to the best candidates, whether they are people currently on the WL or people who have not yet received decisions. I've seen it both ways in past cycles (people getting As post-4/30 without making a stop on the WL, along with people being called off the WL after that date).

this!! Drexel has been my only interview so I'm preparing to reapply just in case but it would be nice to know a little earlier than end of May. Does anyone know if we can submit an AMCAS primary for the upcoming cycle if we're still waiting on a response from this cycle? I want to be early for this cycle but I don't know if I can open/submit and application if the previous cycle still hasn't technically "ended". Any insight?

Absolutely, yes you can!! Many people do it. You can open and/or submit an application for any cycle that is currently available. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to apply in consecutive cycles at all, since the current cycle won't official close until, I think, the end of September. Definitely past May or June.

The key is to try to avoid additional application fees if you can. My advice would be to assume the worst and submit as early as you can, but to only one school. Transmissions to the schools will not happen until the last week of June, so you can add schools right up to that point with no time penalty at all. By then, you should have a pretty good idea whether or not Drexel is going to happen for you this cycle. Good luck!!

My pleasure. You'll see, when the new app opens on 5/3, it will be on your home screen along with the current one, and you'll have a choice regarding which one to enter. They will both be live, and run concurrently. That's one reason LORs and transcripts cannot be reused, and have to be resubmitted and reverified.
