2021-2022 Hackensack Meridian

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Has anyone been able to get in touch with admissions either through email or phone number? I haven't heard a response since sending in an update letter weeks ago.
I send 3 emails and got a response 3 weeks later to one of the emails. Seemed automated...

Hey guys. I am brand new to the forum. Just received the call today. I got accepted! (Interview on 11/05). This is one of my top choices. They mentioned that there were more than 6k applicants this year. I did a physical tour and was impressed with the facilities. Best of luck to all!

I am thinking about sending an update letter soon. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions to include or exclude in the letter? I was just going to explain what I've been doing since graduation in more detail because on the application I didn't really know what I was doing as I had just started.

What number did you get the call from?

I remember searching through SDN threads for information on medical schools. M1 at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine. AMA!
Another M1 here. The school prides itself on community involvement and embraces that in the HD curriculum though you find this in some form at every medical school. How much that factors in admissions I do not know. I would not consider our school service-oriented and I think they lean towards academics with our accelerated curriculum though that is speculation on my part.
Would you guys care to share concerns, if any, in regards to the accreditation status of the school?

TBH, I'd worry more about being able to get decent matches outside of their system, since they are so new and unproven. There is absolutely no indication they are going to have any problem at all receiving full accreditation.

Makes sense! That's another thing I was looking at as well. I am leaning towards cardiology at the moment, so if nothing changes I would go to their IM after 3 years.

Hey all, hope you guys are having a good holiday. Was wondering if anyone who received an II would be willing to give me feedback on my secondaries for Hackensack (no rush since its the holidays). Best of luck to everyone!
Would love to help out! Message me

Jesus I must be screwed. Interviewed 9/27 and silence.

Ehh. Take a look at prior year threads. It's a very new school. Their first match list outside their 3 year program is going to be published this coming March.

As a result, they have historically had a ton of attrition and significant late As and WL movement. In addition, they have been ramping up their class size each year, peaking this year at 160, which is a lot more than they have ever had before.

Due to the growing pains, unknowns in terms of reputation and match, and lack of any ranking at all (apparently due to the failure to provide all requested information to USNWR), if you have another choice you are statistically unlikely to turn it down unless Hackensack is very generous with you financially. For those reasons, you are far from screwed unless and until you actually receive a R. Historically, a very large percentage of their IIs eventually turn into As.

I agree with everything you said. However, I can easily see this school becoming a major medical school in the East Coast pretty soon. 3-yr program, pre-acceptance to residency, 30min from NYC, affiliation with a major hospital, incredible facilities, early exposure to hands-on care, etc.

The school received preliminary accreditation which is the largest hurdle. The only thing remaining is "Full" accreditation which occurs simply after the first 4 year class graduates (this May) so there are no concerns.

Our admissions cycle goes late, so don't write yourself off. MS4s are doing more than fine in terms of interviews, and the match should go the same. USNWR is absolute speculation.

Totally. I absolutely did not mean to crap on the school. Going forward, it's going to be a major player. It's just not quite there yet.

As a result, they have had very high conversion rates from II to A since Day One, and that's not going to change until they have a few match lists under their belt and become a place that a lot of people turn down other schools to attend. Since they are not there yet, no one who has received an II is screwed until they are actually rejected, no matter how long it has been since they interviewed.

What did you all put in the body of your update email. I have a pdf of my update letter I want to send but I don't want to just say "Please add this this to my file. " Any suggestions?

Agree that this is a great school. Also there’s the option of getting a dual degree in 4 years.

I interviewed 10/1 and have heard absolutely nothing. Should I send an update? If so where do I send it to? Thanks.

I Interviewed around then also and haven't heard anything also. I sent an update letter to the SOMAdmissions email because I didn't know where else to send it.

Try the HMSOM interviews email (it gives you the contact email for the interviews email near the contact information for the email they sent inviting you for the interview )

Got an II this morning (complete 9/16) but I was given a date for a virtual admissions day and that I will be notified once my interview has been scheduled. Does this mean that the interview is the same day as the virtual admissions day or will it be on another day. I am just a little worried because the virtual admissions day is 1/11 so it's not a lot of time if that is also the day of the interview. Can anyone who's been interviewed clarify?

They are on different days - no need to worry 🙂 You will get an email or call confirming the date of the actual interview. Mine was not scheduled until a week or so after the virtual admissions day. Congrats on the II!

Hey team! curious if anyone knew anything ab HMSOM's update process. High MCAT, Low GPA (X>515, GPA approx 3.3), and really interested in HMSOM! open to suggestions 🙂

For those still waiting for an II or A, be patient. I know how tough that must be during the cycle but I got my II in February and got accepted in May. There’s still hope so just send those updates and stay busy!
My circumstances haven’t really changed since I interviewed. Should I still send them some sort of update to know that I’m still interested? I have not reviewed any decision yet.

No reason not to. If nothing else, it shows continuing interest. It might not make a difference, but it's definitely not going to hurt. Good luck!!

does anyone know if they only accept updates through email or if we can also send letters of rec thru amcas?
