Oops, I forgot to finish my sentence! There is supposed to be a tally or point system to determine admissions at a somewhat objective level at some schools. Not sure which, if not all. High scores are admitted, lower scores are waitlisted, low scores are rejected. This goes for post-II decisions. Perhaps NYITCOM is admitting the higher scores first, then the high scores after that, then waitlisting the lower scores.

I’ve observed that as well with nyitcom. Other schools are at least decent enough to reject or WL applicants

What does a silent R mean? I thought all schools, even if they reject you, will send a generic email or letter at the very end of the cycle.

When you interview and don't hear anything not WL/A it's usually a silent R and then the generic cycle is over email will prob confirm it

I think it's because many of the people they interview first have better stats that put them at an advantage in the scoring system.

Usually when they have an unranked waitlist, it means they throw all those applicants into a big pool of files to re-review, and then they make the call. It likely means they will review your app again before deciding. With a ranked list, they've already made the decision based on your file and interview about where "in line" you fall compared to other WLed applicants.

From what I have seen, they send out soft Rs after the interviews have all concluded.

This school tends to have a good amount of WL movement! Still give it time and there’s a very good chance you can get off the WL!

Yup. Have submitted two so far. Also haven't had a response since submitting secondary in August

So I think this has come up before, but their website says "NYITCOM does not accept updates or additional material(s) once you have submitted your Supplemental Application." However, multiple people on this page have reported sending updates and adcom accepting those updates (including myself). The response I received was: "Thank you for your email. Your file has been noted with your update and your letter has been uploaded to your application for the Admissions Committee to access and review."

My guess is they may have changed their policy on updates, and might not have changed their website to reflect that yet! Anyone still waiting on a response or decision from NYITCOM, go ahead and boost your apps, send them those updates, give yourselves a better chance! 🙂

I am not sure what the website says regarding updates post supplemental. However, if you got a waitlist email in the last couple of days it says if you would like to send an update you can and it lists an email. Not sure if that is specifically for waitlisted candidates or everyone.

I doubt I will hear back from this school before that date, so does anyone have any insight on what to do?

It is not over, but I honestly believe that it is not promising. 🤗

is the interview open or closed file?

It is semi-open file. They cannot see your MCAT or GPA, but they can see your activities and personal statement. My interviewer actually asked me what I remembered from my PS, perhaps to test whether I wrote it myself.

I have not heard anything at all since I completed my interview back in September and I saw that some WL have already gone out. I was drafting a letter of continued interest but now I'm thinking I am being silently rejected and don't know whether to finish my letter and send it or just take it as an R.

i was browsing some emails and i noticed that at the end of a VCOM email, the director for admissions wrote "Do you have a friend in this year’s application cycle? Please let me know if you think I should check out their application!". is this only for VCOM or is this a normal thing to do for all medical schools?
