2022-2023 University of Houston (Fertitta)

I submitted my application very end of August, received a secondary almost immediately, and submitted on 9/4. Haven't heard anything since... Should I call/ send an LOI? Or is it too early to get desperate? Appreciate any insight

sending an LOI without an interview is not going to help 🙁
Last year they only interviewed 220 people, for a class of 30, most of those in-state.
With their class size increasing to 60 this year they will probably interview more, but that's just my guess.

If a Texas applicant does not receive an II, at what point in time do need they start focusing on the next cycle? November? When is the absolute latest that Texas schools send IIs?

Texas schools stop interviewing at the latest in mid February, when students who have had interviews need to submit their rankings to TMDSAS.
Some schools send their last invitations by December and others by January.

Does anyone know if they accept updates? I can't find any information on their website

It's a GREAT time to be a Houston Cougar.

Our medical school is specific to the needs of the city of Houston, with a focus on health equity, primary care and serving communities that are under-resourced and underserved.

With the opening of the new Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine building, we can say proudly that the University of Houston is producing doctors who are going to do things that others have not been able to do.

#health #medicine #medicalschool

How long is it average to get an interview after you have submitted your secondary? Just received a secondary last week. I know they are selective on who they send their secondaries to, but since I am not URM or have a high MCAT, I'm not sure how high of a chance I have. Just unsure if I should submit my secondary this late in the game, either.

Unless you are worried about a secondary fee, it should take as much time as making a couple posts to write a UH secondary.

I was complete in July and got an II a couple weeks ago. Definitely can take a while.

True indeed! And as a heads up, UHCOM offers a secondary app fee waiver that extends beyond having qualified for the AMCAS Fee Assistance Program. They extend this waiver to employees of non-profit service organizations and active duty military. I emailed them and was approved for the waiver the same day. Just a heads up, even though this info is listed at the start of the secondary app. figured it couldn't hurt to pass along the info in case it helps motivate recent secondary recipients to give it a shot!

If you don't mind sharing any of your stats, it would be great.
@Numpostrophe if you could as well, it would be great.

scheduled to interview tomorrow (11/3). I was told via admissions that we would receive links for the interview the Tuesday prior to the interview. Did anyone else not receive these links? Do we simply go to the interview tab and clink the “start interview” button at 1:00PM? Wasn’t sure if there is supposed to be a zoom or anything prior to beginning the interviews. I have reached out to admissions but figured I would post here as well.

The links will all be in the AMP portal in the new interview dropdown menu
The only links I see are the “start interview” buttons under the “web interview” tab. Is this what you’re referring to? I was curious if there’s a separate zoom link to enter prior to these. I guess we just join the first “start interview” button at 1:00PM?

Is that what you ended up doing?

Has anyone received a prematch offer yet? Does anyone know if prematch offers have been sent out?

Can confirm from interview today, as of today no pre-matches out yet but they did mention that they will be sending pre-matches in small batches up until the January deadline for pre-match period.
Right but when is the first small batch expected?

I interviewed today, and UH remains my top choice school. Would it be appropriate to send them a Letter of Intent sometime next week? Or should I wait at least a month before sending them anything?

Pre-matches should begin to trickle out starting next week. Expect small batches at time. They also indicated they're trepidatious about over-admitting. GL to everyone.
where have you been accepted?

Edit: I see Rio Grande, curious about the second..

Took a tour yesterday and the director of admissions said pre-match offers will be sent in approximately a week. Also, the building is absolutely beautiful!
