Hi again team! I've been pretty quiet these last couple months because of rotations/family life but just wanted to reoffer myself as a resource in case you have any questions about the app process, interviewing, student life, or whatever else you may be curious about. It wasn't that long ago I was in your shoes and it meant a lot to have someone on the other side to talk to, which is why I'm more than happy to be that person for you guys if you need someone. Feel free to dm me if you'd like to talk in private or tag me here if you have any questions 🙂 best of luck to you all praying for your success throughout this app cycle!
Thank you for offering your help! I know they don't generally accept update letters or LOI, but do they accept updates from waitlisted applicants or not at all? It didn't look like they did from previous years.

Sadly you're right CUSM doesn't accept update letters or LOI... but I'll give you my secret workaround. If you're working/volunteering/etc. then try getting a new LOR from a physician or supervisor who you think will write you a solid one. Upload it to AMCAS and have them send it to your med school list as an update to your primary app. CUSM will have no choice but to read your new LOR since it's a part of your primary app and it'll show a few things. One, it'll remind them that you're still alive. Two, it'll show your continued interest in attending CUSM since you included them in the update to your primary app. And finally, it'll show you're not just sitting on your hands waiting for an acceptance and that you're actively working and improving your clinical experiences.

I'm not saying this will guarantee an acceptance here but it definitely doesn't hurt and it's a productive workaround since they don't take LOIs/update letters 🙂 hope this helps!

Is there anything that accepted students have to do right now to reserve their seats in the class? eg. $100 deposit?

Another question, how long did it take for you guys to get an invite to the virtual engagement day? I interviewed a week ago and have gotten nothing but that seems to be the norm. Is there anything I should do in the meantime?

Just submitted my secondary yesterday, do you guys think there's any hope for me?

4.0 postbacc (15 credits at cc), 3.55 cGPA/3.61 sGPA, 506 MCAT, CA ORM, Disadvantaged & Rural

I'd be so grateful to attend this school and hopefully be one of your classmates next year. Happy New Year's Eve to everyone!

No you are seriously way way wayyyyyyy too late. Why did you even try to submit a secondary this late? lol

If they sent you one, you’re in the running. I know people who haven’t received one. Don’t count yourself out. You got this!!
No I think you are giving someone a false hope… just giving money to schools at this point late in the game if you are submitting any type of secondary… literally absolutely no point at this point to submit a secondary…

Not necessarily—it depends on the school. They already received the secondary relatively late and it’s clear CUSM may be a little behind since they changed up the application process by requiring Casper after many schools already started sending out interviews. Also some applicants with strong mission fit who apply on the application deadline date at other schools still get interviews, even before people who submitted much earlier.

We don’t know what happens behind the scenes so we shouldn’t make assumptions either way. You’re right that earlier is in general better, but hopefully their app will receive the same type of review as the rest of us.

I agree with the above post that semsemrocks posted---nothing is guaranteed except for

Telling applicants to submit secondaries post August is nothing but wrong and misinformation… literally you are throwing your money away. If you didn’t Want to hear the truth and real news then don’t ask the question you are scared of the answer being bad… sorry to tell you but you threw away your hard earned money

That's strange because I received a secondary from CUSM in October, submitted it the same day, and received an Interview from them in November.

It's not me who is the exception, it's the school. I agree with you that submitting secondaries in October/November/December puts you at a drastic disadvantage that warrants one to reconsider applying at all, but that should not be applied to schools like CUSM, who appear to be more selective with whom they send their secondaries out to.

Very well said. My timeline for this school was the same as yours (secondary received/ submitted in Oct and interview invite in Nov). Yes, usually late secondaries are not advised, but this school seems to be an exception. Best of luck @husky12345 Rooting for you!!

Uhhhhhhhh not a hater just telling fellow applicant the real deal how it is applying… I got a lot of interviews too and I also got As to CALMED, HOFSTRA, got an interview at UPenn… I think I know what I’m talking about when I tell people if you submit secondary this late into the game it is not an application anymore you are now basically donating free money to the school you are submitting secondary to… very simple idea to understand here…

Anyways, I hope I have at least some chance.
Hey, I also received my secondary November 30th and submitted in December! I knew it was late when submitting but I rather shoot my shot and see what happens then have a what if moment. Im glad you submitted the secondary and I am manifesting interviews for the both of us 🙂

I know thank you - but what I didn’t know is so so soooooo many applicants are submitting II so late in the game… now I am understand why I read that medical school application cycle is so expensive and people apply to many many schools with absolute zero luck… it is because many applicants do not know what is a good application strategy lol… really people? This is becoming a donation rather than a competitive medical school application

Not good tactic or strategy for applicants. Please future applicants reading this… do not do this… this is a donation at best

EDIT: actually, keep doing this LOL if I go here then your late secondary will likely be used to improve facilities LOL

Is this school supporting federal loans? There's another school, i think that doesn't allow you to take federal loans, so I'm just wondering

Probably just
