To anybody that has done it, what exactly does the virtual engagement day entail? is it just a Q&A plus more info about the program? I forgot to read the description they put on the portal lol
I wish CUSM had done the virtual engagement day before the interview because it was nice to speak to faculty and learn about the program. If you're interested in the school I recommend going.

I have my virtual engagement day scheduled for 1/26; however, I interviewed on 11/29 and don't think that I will be hearing back about a decision by then based on the fact that people from October interviews are just now hearing back LOL.

Hi all! I submitted my interview on 10/20/23 and have yet to hear back... at what point should I assume I'm being ghosted? I know that during the engagement day they said 8-12 weeks, but I'm getting nervous lol

I heard back after 12 weeks and one day lol so don't lose hope!

This school operates differently from those that send out admission first, followed by waitlists.

Not sure if this question has been asked but, are admissions decisions sent out before or after the virtual engagement day? The only available day on my portal was 3/22 so would I have to wait until April for a decision or can my decision come before then?

I think someone here mentioned they got their decision back before virtual engagement but it seems like the exception. I think most people are getting decisions 12+ weeks out

Got it, thank you!

Anyone else hasn't received the secondary yet?😴

I thought 8-12 weeks was really long to hear back post-interview, but we're into week 13 now :')

Hey, I hope this message isn't in poor taste but I am not sure exactly where else to ask this. Do any applicants or current students have any advice for choosing between CUSM and UCR? I have researched both schools, but would love to get some more input!

Personally I would pick UCR. It’s more established, more people would recognize the name as well which may (?) be beneficial. Cusm also isn’t fully accredited yet like UCR is, but it’s on its way. They’re in a similar area so no comparison there. But yeah, UCR will also give you access to more research opportunities at the university since they have departments and it’s not just a med school. Also if you’re in state it’s a lot cheaper. All roads point to UCR in my opinion.

recently got an IS A (': i was wondering if we needed to do anything else besides completing the DocuSign? I already completed it but unsure if we needed to do anything else to confirm acceptance, also haven't received the Registration Checklist yet either

Alright if I don’t hear anything by the end of this week assuming I’ve been ghosted. This is week 12 for me lol

Can I asked what date you interviewed?!
yeah I also want to know. I interviewed 11/14 and haven't heard anything, but there was a previous post that they didn't meet over winter break so maybe it's taking a bit longer.

Edit: totally put the wrong date whoops.

Dang that's so long ago. It seemed like they were going in order with early Oct interviews but then disappeared 😭

Yeah, those are excellent points. The main concern I had about UCR was being shoehorned into primary care / not having opportunities to explore and become competitive for specialities

I feel you. UCR really has a big focus on primary care. But I don’t think cusm’s match statistics aren’t much better if you’re hoping for competitive specialties. I spoke to a current student who told me that it’s typically 1/3 psychiatry, 1/3 primary care, and 1/3 of the class matches into other specialties. Last year the only competitive specialty match he noted was one person getting into a derm residency. He said there have been people in the past matching into surgical specialties too, but very few. And it’s never been something as competitive as neurosurgery, but more so general surgery or something.

However, things could change four years down the line as cusm makes more of a name for itself.

hi! congrats and good luck to everyone! for those accepted, does anyone know if the deposit is refundable or not if we decide to enroll somewhere else later on in the cycle? also, if /when CUSM tends to send out scholarships?

Can't speak to the most recent CUSM class of 2023 but the 2022 class had plenty of competitive matches. There was ophtho, vascular surgery, ENT, a couple/few ortho, someone also did gen surg then jumped into plastics. Not to mention several Gas and DR matches. Besides that there were matches at good/competitive programs like UCI, UCSD, USC, UW, UCLA, UNC, etc., in other specialties. Besides that yes, the match has, so far in CUSM's match history, been a bit heavy in the psyc/IM/neuro areas I'd say.

Not trying to run defense or anything. CUSM is certainly a newer program with issues that have been mentioned here and I don't want to sway anyone based on this necessarily. Just wanted to put this out there.

I interviewed back in Nov and soon after signed up for the virtual engagement day which is sometime this month but now I don’t remember what day and I never got an email confirmation. I tried checking my profile and it doesn’t even say when the engagement day is on there so idk what to do at this point.

I just figured I’d have heard back on a decision by now and then decide to go on the engagement day based on that lol but seems they are running very behind on decisions…

Do you guys think missing the virtual engagement day messed with admission decisions? Should I email admissions asking what day the engagement day is again?

I am in the same boat as you. I believe the virtual engagement day is on 1/27. They will send an email with the link a week before. It's been 9+ weeks since my interview and I haven't heard a decision yet.

Oh okay so they send an email with the link to join! Thats what I thought but because I didn’t write down the exact date I scheduled for (because I thought I’d get a confirmation email), I wasn’t sure if I somehow already missed it.

I’ll wait for the email with the link then to confirm the date of the virtual engagement day, thank you!

Live up the street and was hopeful I'd get a secondary from this school but wasn't that lucky! Saw this on their website for anybody still wondering/waiting. Looks like if you didn't get a secondary by 12/2023, it's a R... based off of this...

I also interviewed in Nov and I reached out to them and they sent an automatic email to schedule it through our student portal (where we submitted secondaries) and that's where you can schedule a virtual engagement day. I am 99.99% sure my engagement day is 1/26 from 10:30-1:30.

Yeah I remember signing up for a date in January but don’t remember which date exactly 😓 and there is no confirmation email or information on the day through my portal…

So really hoping they’ll be sending out a zoom link or something for the engagement day sometime soon since I thinkkkk I scheduled mine for Jan 26th or 27th…😅

I don’t believe so. I just called admissions and they said it’s 8-10 weeks right now. I have a feeling (read: hope) we might hear something tomorrow
I remember feeling anxious at the 8 week mark and today is week 14 😭 Has anyone else around the 10/12 interview date heard back?

Interview 10/6, IS A last month! Keep your chin up and stay strong, you've all got this🙂)

I've heard similar from a current MS3 who's intending on going anesthesia! Not impossible to get into a competitive specialty, just difficult because the school is newer and it takes time to establish reputation. Hoping we're the class that sets a more positive and versatile trend for residencies🙂) we got this all!

Hello! Does anyone know who we should email to reschedule our virtual engagement day? It seems like all the emails I've received from admissions are automated and sent from do.not.reply email ids, so I'm not sure what their email is. Thanks!
