2023-2024 Emory

Looking for advice on if applying here would be worth it as a male. LM 73, lots of clinical hours scribing for 2 gap years, a few local and international volunteering experiences, great LORs, no ties to the area. Didn’t realize until now that their acceptance rate is just about the lowest in the country and that their class is 70% female. Essays wouldn’t be a hassle, but would be nice to save the application fee. Thanks!!

I was so confused why you said men. Then I looked at MSAR and wow…

Isn't that ratio true of most schools now? I imagine more women are also applying than men?

This 70/30 ratio is the highest I remember seeing.
Here's the AAMC Data table A-1 for those who must know more facts: Looks like Duke & Oregon have a similar ratio

I don’t think it’s necessarily a preference for female applicants, more so that women tend to be performing better in higher-ed than men nowadays at least supposedly based on some stuff I’ve seen.

Agreed but also based on the doc @wysdoc shared for Emory their applicants makeup and matriculants makeup is pretty different

I'm glad that the skew is in favor of women! But also wish I didn't apply to Emory now, probably a donation 😂

How big is their class size again? If it's 100 person class size versus a 200 person class size, that could make a difference since there's a substantially higher number of seats available for you and I

My MSAR subscription ended which is why I can't look it up myself
MSAR has fall 2022 as 69M 94F, but the fall 2023 class profile on their site is 41M 100F. I guess this year was a much bigger difference than usual, 2021 was actually 80M 84F. The essays are short, I guess I’ll give them a donation.

Lots of variability. Probably just an anomaly last year. Def worth an application

A donation???? Seeing your results in the past few weeks begs to differ.

Anyone know if the Emory interviews are open file? Do they have access to your entire app before the interview?

Does anyone with an II have access to the pre-recorded presentations on the portal? I interview Monday and I wonder if I should email them about this or just wait

Would it be too late to submit a secondary here? This is one of my last ones but not sure if it's even worth it bc its mid September.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on LORs for me... I submitted 3 individual letters, but none of them are from STEM profs because I didn't develop relationships with any. I did ask a mentor for a research stint I did over the summers, which is probably the most explicitly science-y LOR I have. The other two are from my humanities grad school advisor, and a supervisor from my job as a caregiver at an assisted living facility. I'm just nervous that because I don't have any actual profs that can comment on how I did in classes, I guess, and I'm not sure how to answer the "Why no committee letter" question 😢. Any advice/insight is appreciated!

Just checking this thread even though I did not apply here. Any II with a subsection less than 125?

Does anyone know if I can apply to an MD/PhD after I already submitted my MD application?
