2024-2025 Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
to those of yall getting II what were your general MCAT scores/GPA?
OOS II
GPA: 3.79
MCAT: 498-->508

I finished the secondary in like 10 days with the II coming about 4 business days later or so. They seem to be one of the earliest interviewers, as I've finished about 10 other secondaries with radio silence.

I'm just reviewing their mission statement, values, and things I liked about their campus + using the SDN interview site to prepare for questions. BTW, did you happen to see where we can indicate a preference for interviewing in person vs online?
It seems like both interviews next week are fully virtual as per email I got earlier in the morning.

Of course, glad to help! I've had a great experience with ACOM, so far. The school provides a lot of board prep resources, ample vacation time, and both academic and mental health resources. They also make our clinical years pretty easy, as you have the ability to do aways/auditions or simply do a bunch of rotations in network. Unlike some schools, you aren't left to your own devices to set up your entire 4th year.

I've loved my experience with HPSP! In fact, I met my wife during OTS (Officer Training School). It's really easy to balance the commitments with school-- they leave you alone during the year, and then you have a couple trainings to do during the summer. I did OTS the summer before med school, so I was able to get it out of the way quickly. I then did AFOM (Air Force Operational Medicine) during the summer between 1st and 2nd year, but this is no longer a required course. You'll then do a couple active duty tours at residency sites during your 4th year, which are pretty easy to set up (easier than applying through VSLO). I've been able to get everything out of my med school experience that I've wanted, and not being in any debt is definitely a significant boon as we head into residency and the beginnings of our careers.

As far as interview prep, I studied the questions from the SDN interview feedback, did some mock interviews with family and friends, and familiarized myself with my application. It's open file, so you'll want to know your app inside and out.

I hope this helps, and don't hesitate to PM me if you have any other questions! This goes for anyone in the thread. 🙂
This was so incredibly helpful to hear, thank you so so much!

Has anyone got the itinerary for the interviews coming up this week?
No, I have not gotten the formal agenda and Zoom links for my Thursday interview yet.

The general email sent after I confirmed my interview indicated that applicants would be assigned a time between the hours of 8:30a-1:00p CST for a 30 min interview, and then from 1-3pm there would be leadership and student support group presentations and from 4-5 there would be an Ambassador Q&A panel.

The interview schedule filled up so quickly, I wasn't able to get a spot. Anybody have an idea of when they'd add more slots? I'm scared to miss it again lol

Okay, sounds good. I am also waiting for those official links, so I can make my plans.

Did you get any link for the ambassador panel that is supposed to happen from 4-5?
No, I did not. I got a link for the "Overview of Academic Life Group Presentation" which is scheduled from 1:00 – 3:30 PM CST. Should I email them about it, or is the Q and A going to be in the same zoom?

I think it will be the same zoom. I did not get it either. They will probably mention it in the group presentation. 🙂

hey guys, i submitted 2 days ago and paid and got the confirmation and all but my portal home page says this???? has it done this to anyone else. lol
That happened to me, and it is still that way post interview. I think their system doesn't update very readily.

The interview so super chill and quick, the staff was so nice and informative!
My interviewer had zero emotion and it felt like he was over giving interviews for the day 💀 It wasn't bad but he also just got on a tangent about asking about the Opioid Crisis

Any questions that surprised you guys?
Definitely the one where he seemed genuinely confused about me having a chemical engineering undergrad degree and my choice of pursuing an MBA. The question about opioid crisis causes/ remedies. I also had a 1 on 1 not a 2 on 1 interview.

My interview was similar to others. It was kinda monotone until she was answering the questions I had. My recommendation would be to come up with unique questions that make them think.
Regarding the link for the presentation, my link was inserted in the email with the interview spreadsheets.

The group presentation or the student ambassador panel? I think they are the same though.

ACOM's interview scheduling system is back up. Several options for either virtual or in-person in August.

Exactly what I did during mine regarding questions!

Looking at past year threads, it is likely we will hear back next thursday or friday

I just checked the interview calendar again today and it seems all the August interview slots are already filled. I can't believe I was too late signing up for one again. Hoping they open more dates for September. Congrats to everyone who completed an interview this week!

For people who completed their interview, is your status on the portal still interview requested?

Just out of curiosity, does ACOM post their post-interview acceptance rate?

For those who interviewed, did you feel the interview was more conversational or did you have to answer questions on topics they came up with (like MMI/Casper/Preview style stuff)?

I don't think it was very conversational until I asked my interviewer questions and opened the door for conversation. She asked me questions about professionalism, why medicine, why DO, why ACOM, etc. I think because they interviewed so many people in one day they were pretty quick and to the point.

You can find a lot of information about ACOM (grad rates, retention rates, comlex data, admissions data, etc.) at this site: Institutional Effectiveness - ACOM

You can do a (very) rough calculation of post-interview acceptance rate by assuming that ACOM accepts 2-3x the number that end up matriculating. For the class of 2027, take 205 * 2 = 410 or 205 * 3 = 615, which gives a post-interview acceptance rate of somewhere between 40 and 60%.

Thanks, it seems like it decreases over the cycle, so in the early part its higher and later it is lower. I was looking at past threads.

How did you guys submit the front and back of your ID for the secondary when it only allows one file?

If I remember correctly, I uploaded a picture of the front of my ID and it still let me upload a second file. If it has to be one file, you could always use a photo editor to include the two separate photos into one single file (like a collage).

my guy was based, he was very chill

I took pictures of my ID and just put the front and back pictures on a word document, downloaded it as a PDF, and then uploaded it.

Do you think acceptances for the first batch of interviews will come out tomorrow? Traditionally, the early interviews have had their acceptances the thursday after the week of interviews.

The presenter said the updates would be given hopefully by this Friday (to those who interviewed Thursday), latest would be within 2 weeks of the interview.

My interviewer on Thurs said 1 week to 2 weeks. IDK maybeee some chance they come out tmrw but I would bet Friday is earliest since another commenter said their interviewer explicitly said that was the earliest.

Has anyone been able to reach the admissions office? I've called a few days and no one ever answers. I submitted my secondary a few days ago but it still doesn't have a checkmark yet.

I wouldn't worry about the application checklist. I still have everything other than my primary marked as incomplete even though I interviewed.
