2024-2025 Icahn (Mt. Sinai)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I keep getting spammed with the Master's program emails. Dumb question: if I unsubscribe from these emails, will Icahn still be able to send me emails for updates to my application?

The 100 and 150 word limits 🙁 I feel like its so hard to demonstrate my fit in that little amount of room

Wondering the same thing. Probably won't block since you only have a few days to respond after getting an II, if it was lost in spam that'd be tragic

I haven't been getting any of the masters emails and I think its because I didn't check ok to getting marketing when submitting my primary. I wonder if it's one of those things you can go back and change after submitting ur primary? Maybe that will help!

I just got my secondary because I didnt add Sinai to my school list until later, but the link they gave me in the email is not working on chrome or safari for me. It just pulls up a black screen. Anyone else have this problem?

Try Clearing your cache/history or restarting your computer. That fixed it for me

3. (Optional) If you are committed to a particular community or if there is an important aspect of your identity not addressed elsewhere in the application, we invite you to do so here. Briefly also explain how such factors may have influenced your motivation for a career in medicine. Completing this section is optional.(150 words)
so theres a community that im committed to helping, especially after working with kids from this community for 4+ years now, but I started my PS off with this, its one of my MMEs, and I'm using anecdotes from my work with this community for the two other sinai essays so should I still answer this prompt?

I feel like if it's already woven through your primary and secondary responses, it might be overkill to mention it again? Maybe that's just me, but whoever's reviewing your application will definitely see your commitment to whatever community even if you don't include it in the optional response!

do u think i can mention it and then turn It into a why us essay? my only concern with leaving this question blank is I don't wanna seem lazy by not answering a question

That might be a good way to go about it; I honestly don't think it'd count against you to leave the prompt unanswered though. I'm just another applicant so take this with a grain of salt!

I was in this same situation, I wrote something like:

"Although I believe it is clear from my application, I would like to make explicit that I am deeply committed to XXX community, I have been a leader in this community and I plan to continue to do so in medical school. I have seen how my community is affected by discrimination in X,Y and Z ways. I want to be a doctor to help my community."

but in more words. I think it threads the needle of "this is already addressed" and also answers the question directly

+1
Make it clear that you're not trying to spin the same story as multiple different experiences.
If you have to double dip, especially since your work is so comprehensive, make a slight note of it.

For the community question, could we talk about a hobby/extracurricular? It didn't directly affect my desire to pursue medicine, since it was a creative pursuit, but I can connect it to how I can use those skills for medicine.
im in a similar boat bc I was thinking of using my adversity prompt about me coming out as part of the LGBTQ community, however, it didnt really affect my desire to pursue medicine. if anything, it will help me become a better physician.

It totally could be framed in a way to meet this prompt!
Did coming out ever give you doubts about being accepted by your patients or coworkers?
Did you believe it would hurt your chances?
many ways to frame this

recently received mcat retake back and am adding on more schools now, would having applied to flexmed and not getting it mean that I check yes on the "*Have you applied to this medical school in previous years?" on amcas?

Yes I believe so!

Any other MSTP applicants receive the email about the PhD Programs & MTA Info Sessions?

Did the secondary have any mention of if you applied to Flexmed in the past anywhere?

so i accidentally forgot that i applied to flexmed four years ago and indicated that i never applied to icahn before on my secondary. should i reach out to clarify this?

Hi all! Just wondering if anyone here has completed their interviews yet (particularly for MSTP)? I saw on the website that Mt. Sinai does traditional open file interviews, and I was wondering what the vibes of the interview were like 🙂

Not MSTP, but this was one of my favorite interviews so far! If you're prepared for standard interview questions and to chat about your experiences I'm sure you'll be fine. My interviewers were very kind

When do they interview till? Feb? Also how does their decision making process go do they release starting january?
