2024-2025 New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It’s okay yall, I have to pay a ginormous deposit Sunday night at another school, and then the WL movement will start on Monday, just to spite me. Your welcome.

There appear to be rumors circulating online that some programs have capitalized on the extended AACOMAS deadlines to not only interview and waitlist students late this cycle...but might be taking super-qualified applicants who applied early for the 2025-2026 cycle and asking them if they want to join the class of 2029 instead.

No news of this school doing such a thing, but it could be a huge reason for the lack of waitlist movement at said med schools, and causing a ripple effect here.

Now if this is true (remaining skeptical), personally, I think it's downright dishonest and shameful for a school to do :/

I was thinking of calling but then I feel like it'll be super general with it'll start soon or something. Idk how else to say that I am desperate without sounding like I am

I truly am grateful that I was given the opportunity, a part of me wishes though that maybe I didn't have a chance so I can focus on happier things, but I just have been thinking about "what if" rather then enjoying that I got into school and starting to move. I'm just thinking what if i move across the country too soon, buy a car, get an apartment and then hear back, or possibly worse, I don't hear back and now am stuck with a crappy living situation, no car etc. I know it'll all work out but I'm sick of telling everyone in my life " I'm moving to X state but idk maybe something will change"

Thats exactly how I feel. Im extremely thankful for the opportunity to be considered but at the same time I want to be excited but im just so apprehensive about everything because do I start house searching, buying furniture, supplies and then once I do what if I hear back for a chance to get in and now what do I do with the stuff that I shipped to said apt in another state. What about the lease. Everything's so up in the air I just dont really know what to do.

Just spoke to admissions. Didn't get the woman's name. She said there's been "some drops" but to give it 1 to 2 weeks for movement to begin. If I also remember correctly (the disappointment is clouding my memory), she said the committee hasn't met yet to discuss pulling people off waitlists for those "drops." She also added info into my application saying I called and was still interested.

I'm just going to assume this was just a bad cycle for any DO waitlisted applicants. Kinda confirms what Ryan Gray from Med School HQ was talking about with higher yields and less waitlist movements overall for DO schools. Another DO school I was waitlisted at also sent an email sometime in early May where they were shocked that waitlist movement slowed to a crawl that period and they hadn't seen that any point in the school's history. I mean, I'll remain on the waitlist but I think it's time for me at least to accept that I will be going to another school far away.

^^^I feel this too. I'm in the exact same situation, even down to literally moving across the country.

1-2 more weeks will almost put us to July which is pushing it close to certain other schools opening. I just hope to hear something next week if anything

I just called and she didnt give me a name and she said the WL email should be sent sometime this week but didnt tell me when.

Not the brand new information from what I assume might be a different admissions person. Maybe it's luck of the draw who answers and what they know. Maybe someone else should call and we might get an exact date for movement?

True, it does put us to July but NYITCOM doesn't start their academic year until August and they operate within their own timelines.

Yeah she just straight told me they've seen movement which is the complete opposite of what everyone else has said and that an email will be sent out this week. I hope we all hear back soon

Wait getting off the WL to an acceptance in the Long Island campus? This is no where to be found on SDN or any other websites. I heard some from the AR campus

That's what I was wondering too, but the admissions representative when I asked if and when the WL will start told me that they have seen some WL movement but again I also didn't see anywhere. So maybe something internal? I always thought that it would start after the email was sent out for us to confirm interest on remaining on the WL. I'm hoping we all hear back soon!

It could be people who selected both campuses they would be happy. And then get got AR I assume but idk

people who are applying for the 2025-2026 cycle have already received the NYITCOM secondaries like immediately after submitting their application. so that makes me nervous that this rumor could be true.

No when I was applying they send me secondary right away last year

I think when they refer to having "movement" they're talking about people who were previously accepted dropping the school and that they now have open seats, not necessarily accepting people off the waitlist as the movement

To reiterate, last year after they sent out this email they started pulling people from the WL like 1-2 days later. Let’s hope that when it rains it pours!
Are you and others implying that this year’s class isn’t completely full right now?

Well I’ve got no information on that, but based on what some others are posting, they seem to be about to send out the email about reaffirming whether you want to remain on the WL or not. If they do that, that most likely means there will at least be SOME waitlist movement. Last year there wasn’t ANY waitlist movement until they sent that email out.

I get that but at the same time people getting off the waitlist doesn’t really make a difference. It’s the seats opening up from already accepted students that causes a WL movement, if any, to happen. šŸ¤”
