2024-2025 Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine (Provo, UT) Noorda-COM

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I signed up for today hopefully they have any idea on what the WL movement looks like.
You're awesome! I can't believe how different this cycle seems as compared to prior years.

I got a vague answer nothing too specific about WL movement. My guess would be as the deadlines get closer we’ll know if there are available seats. The student presenting said they were initially waitlisted and got in around May so that gives me hope.

Has anyone heard anything about the waitlist, specifically for this year? I'm really sad that this year's WL movement seems nothing like that of previous years'. It's hard not to feel forgotten about.

Don’t get discouraged! As more and more decisions come out, people will withdraw and there will be movement!

I heard they will do another round of reviews at the end of March. I am still hopeful but definitely planning on re-applying just in case. This school has everything I want in a med school, as time goes by I foresee it being more competitive each year.

Interviews should go until mid-May (assuming that they do it like last cycle) so there’s def time left

Rising 4th year. Feel free to DM or reply with questions.
Do they have MCAT subsection cut-offs for admissions consideration? I have an MCAT score of 501 (124, 124, 127, 126). Will I be eligible to apply?

Honest answer, no idea, been a minute since I’ve been involved with admissions, but even then I wasn’t privy to those conversations. I would refer to the admissions teams or the website for any specific cut offs.

Real question for everybody. HOW is everyone handling the financial aspect of this school? I met with the financial advisor of the school and was greatly discouraged by the potential $600,000 debt (after the ~15% interest rate for the private loan) we’d have to take out. She shared that one of their lenders just pulled out too, so now they only have one lender option. As somebody with no family financial help and very little savings, this seems incredibly daunting. I love the school, but does anybody have any insight on how to reconcile this? What are your financial plans?

their private loans are 15%!?!? is that across the board or specifically for you? if it is for you specifically, can you elaborate on your financial circumstances if you're comfortable doing so?

Just withdrew my acceptance for Noorda! This school has a lot to offer and I definitely see it rising up the ranks quickly. Best of luck to everyone waiting, you got this!

That’s what we were told by the financial advisor for Noorda. She said it’s between 9-16% with the lender that they use, even if you have great credit.

In my portal it shows 4 different lenders that are offered with interest rates that vary from 3 to 14%

Would sending an update letter and express my continued interest in the program help me at all? I've been on the waitlist since September and I don't want them to think I lost interest. I also updated them on my new improved MCAT score which went up by 8 points in January

holy crap. i mean 9% is actually great for private. FAFSA is just above 8% for graduate/professional, and Grad PLUS is just above 9%. so if they did actually give 9%, that would be awesome. but mid teens % is wild.

I will say, this is the reason that I will most likely be withdrawing my acceptance to Noorda. I absolutely loved the school, the interview process, the format of education, area, and clinical sites all being within a 45 minute drive of the campus. BUT, with no parental support or anyone else that can cosign a private loan for me, I have limited options. The inability to access federal aid is a huge thing and not being able to get loans the first year is an absolute killer. I'm really sorry that you are in this situation and, if this is your only A, I really hope you're able to figure this out with them.

I was put on hold back on Thanksgiving and just received a secondary today. What’s the likelihood of receiving an interview after getting a secondary?

I don't believe they would send you an II if you didn't have a chance at the A.

Can any current students comment on rotation sites? Are all the sites drivable from the school or will some students have to move apartments after 2nd year?

Will Noorda wait to take people from WL til after the April 21st interviews?
Last year they took people off the waitlist on March 22, around this time. Not sure if it’ll be the same this year. If it is, then some may hear back next week since today is match day.

Absolutely send them a letter and update them of your new score!

How much of a hindrance is it to do an essay vs the video? If I did a video, it’d just be me talking at the camera with a few pictures added in

Declined an II this morning that I received on Wednesday. If anyone here is hoping for one, hope it goes to one of you. Good luck!!! <3

From today's presentation, these were my takeaways:
*Full accreditation status expected next month
*MCAT average for this cycle are trending higher than last year (~504)
*The class is full; as seats open, they will pull from the WL. More movement expected in April.

Full accreditation status meaning they’re eligible for federal loans this fall??

From my brief discussions with staff at the school, they’re not expecting that for this cycle unfortunately (think it took ICOM some time to get it as well and I believe some others mentioned staff members telling them the same a few pages ago in this thread). I appreciate their full honesty and transparency in that regard.

While they said the current 4th years will be graduating from a fully accredited medical school, they didn't say anything about the next class entering one. I don't see any more info sessions on their events calendar. You could always email or call the admissions office.

Good morning everyone! Does anyone have the link to the accepted students group chat?
