Another M1 lurking before our exam Monday.

Just so y'all do not lose hope, my II was not until May 8th. They interview and accept pretty late at this school, there were other kids in my class who I remember were in my interview group as well.

I was wondering what most students found the most challenging in their first two years, and if you have found any systems to better achieve the scores we need.

I think the most challenging is just keeping up with the sheer amount of information that you need to know in a very short amount of time. The saying about drinking out of the firehose is definitely true.

Unfortunately achieving the scores you want is really different for everyone, the first few months are basically just you trying to figure out how to study as your pre-medschool methods are likely not going to work anymore. Everyone goes through that and it is totally normal. Just try out different methods and you'll find what works for you. This also kind of changes per block, so it is an ongoing challenge.

Definitely do not prep anything now, just enjoy your time off and do all the things you need/want to do. Maybe get your vaccines up to date but that's all.

So basically we get 1 case per week and have to come up with differential diagnoses in the various systems. Based on the information in the case and what we would like to know about the case, we do our research and create a 5 min presentation. The next session we get the next part of the case and rinse-repeat. I like that you get to play with the information you're learning during lecture and apply it to the case. Some cases are obviously more interesting than others, and sometimes the distribution of information over the days is done poorly but that is not really a big deal.

It is different from normal lectures in that the facilitator is just there to minimally guide you and you have to figure out with your (small +/- 8 people) group what is going on.

I am another M1, I will say it is more interactive than regular lecture (keep in mind, we still have regular lecture it is just not required to attend). It is not a replacement for content studying though, it is more just to reinforce some concepts by contextualizing it more.

Personally, i think it can be fun especially if you have a good group. The powerpoints would be annoying sometimes as they would often be out of scope of our exams so it felt like a waste of time during stressful periods.

i think if they haven't responded to you yet it means that you're still in the running, especially after an interview. Usually schools do mass rejection emails towards the end of the cycle. So for now i think no news is good news or whatever they say lol.

You could always email them but i know they have an automatic email response saying they don't give individual updates on applications, so the worst they could do is just ignore your email haha

Just wanted to post my experience for yall too. In-State WL, sent a letter of intent, no confirmation email in response. I interviewed back in December and got my decision in March. I also called the office and was unable to get a hold of anyone.

Yes exactly! and No response as of yet, and no luck on the phone either. They may be figuring out last minute administrative details, so I urge us to have faith, and hopefully get some movement by End of May.

Hi everyone, I'm a little confused about the plan to enroll thing on AMCAS. Just wanted to check NSU doesn't have a deadline for plan to enroll right? I know that they have a June deadline for commit to enroll.

From my understanding, plan to enroll is a temporary decision you can assign to one school beginning February 19th and ending on April 30th. It's basically a way to say that you're picking this school, for now. After the 30th, you go from plan to enroll to commit to enroll. This is permanent; you have to pick what school you want to go to, like NSU for instance, and withdraw acceptances to all the others.

I don’t want to be neurotic as I understand NSU has a later cycle than other schools, just not sure what to expect now

Damn I'm in the same boat and interviewed in November so sorry to hear that. I think it's best to wait. I've debated doing it multiple times but I don't think anything will rise from it.
