I think the most challenging is just keeping up with the sheer amount of information that you need to know in a very short amount of time. The saying about drinking out of the firehose is definitely true.

Unfortunately achieving the scores you want is really different for everyone, the first few months are basically just you trying to figure out how to study as your pre-medschool methods are likely not going to work anymore. Everyone goes through that and it is totally normal. Just try out different methods and you'll find what works for you. This also kind of changes per block, so it is an ongoing challenge.

Definitely do not prep anything now, just enjoy your time off and do all the things you need/want to do. Maybe get your vaccines up to date but that's all.

Can any current students share more about PBL? How it works here, what they like/don't like, and how it is different than normal lectures?

So basically we get 1 case per week and have to come up with differential diagnoses in the various systems. Based on the information in the case and what we would like to know about the case, we do our research and create a 5 min presentation. The next session we get the next part of the case and rinse-repeat. I like that you get to play with the information you're learning during lecture and apply it to the case. Some cases are obviously more interesting than others, and sometimes the distribution of information over the days is done poorly but that is not really a big deal.

It is different from normal lectures in that the facilitator is just there to minimally guide you and you have to figure out with your (small +/- 8 people) group what is going on.

Awesome, thanks so much! Do you think you prefer it to the normal lecture style? I don't know if PBL is something I would like.

I am another M1, I will say it is more interactive than regular lecture (keep in mind, we still have regular lecture it is just not required to attend). It is not a replacement for content studying though, it is more just to reinforce some concepts by contextualizing it more.

Personally, i think it can be fun especially if you have a good group. The powerpoints would be annoying sometimes as they would often be out of scope of our exams so it felt like a waste of time during stressful periods.
 
When I interviewed they mentioned something about a “contingent acceptance” where you would have to take an online class in July. Has anyone gotten this yet?

Still waiting on decision :/ Nothing in the portal and I interviewed on 10/28. Is all hope lost or is no decision a good thing??
 
I was accepted back in January but now when I check my portal it says my decision letter is dated 3/21 and I have yet to respond to the acceptance and not submitted my intent form. Anyone else having this same issue?
 
Has anyone sent a letter of intent and gotten off the waitlist shortly after?
 
Has anyone who has gotten accepted off the waitlist not sent a letter? Do we need to send a letter to be considered to get off the waitlist? I got my OOS WL decision 3/13
 
Dumb question but is it possible that they don't have to get back to you at all after your interview? I know they said they don't accept any letters unless you're waitlisted but if they never get back to me I'm kind of debating doing it

i think if they haven't responded to you yet it means that you're still in the running, especially after an interview. Usually schools do mass rejection emails towards the end of the cycle. So for now i think no news is good news or whatever they say lol.

You could always email them but i know they have an automatic email response saying they don't give individual updates on applications, so the worst they could do is just ignore your email haha
 
Anyone know how long the cycle runs here? I know they say it’s later than most other schools but just wondering what the latest might be to hear a final decision
 
Was anyone able to get a hold of MDadmissions on the -0515 phone number? I am trying to see if they got my LOI, because I didn't receive a confirmation email, etc.

Did you email it or upload it to the portal? I didn't try calling calling bc I emailed it to the email address in the WL letter and they responded the next day. They seem to be better at responding to emails than calls
 
Hi everyone, I'm a little confused about the plan to enroll thing on AMCAS. Just wanted to check NSU doesn't have a deadline for plan to enroll right? I know that they have a June deadline for commit to enroll.
 
Do we think more IIs are coming LOL? I know the website says interviews go through May and CycleTrack shows interview invites in June for last cycle. Do we think there's a few more coming?

I submitted a LOI 2 days ago and yesterday they sent this: "We have completed our interview process and now are reviewing all of those candidates."

I sent it to the [email protected] email, but I didn't see any ability to upload my LOI to the portal. I sent them another follow-up email, because I sent my LOI in late-Feb, but did not receive any confirmation email that they received it.

LOI as in letter of intent? Also did you receive a response after sending the second email?
 
Just wanted to post my experience for yall too. In-State WL, sent a letter of intent, no confirmation email in response. I interviewed back in December and got my decision in March. I also called the office and was unable to get a hold of anyone.

Yes exactly! and No response as of yet, and no luck on the phone either. They may be figuring out last minute administrative details, so I urge us to have faith, and hopefully get some movement by End of May.

From my understanding, plan to enroll is a temporary decision you can assign to one school beginning February 19th and ending on April 30th. It's basically a way to say that you're picking this school, for now. After the 30th, you go from plan to enroll to commit to enroll. This is permanent; you have to pick what school you want to go to, like NSU for instance, and withdraw acceptances to all the others.
 
Is there any point of time moving forward that it would be ok and not frowned upon to contact the admissions office for an update? Interviewed at end of October and haven’t heard anything since. I don’t want to be neurotic as I understand NSU has a later cycle than other schools, just not sure what to expect now
