2024-2025 Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM-PA)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For the upcoming school year, PCOM will be moving to a trimester schedule and I’m curious to know how long summer break between M1 and M2 year will be. Anyone got any ideas or insight?

Not really sure how trimester schedules work and looking at the tentative calendar online confused me lol

thanks for replying.
are you thinking about doing an update letter? I have no idea why they aren't interviewing people with these stats!
I was going to hold off on sending a letter and just waiting because I know they interview late into the cycle (my friend got accepted in April last cycle). Fortunately, I've also gotten an A at a few other DO schools that I wouldn't mind attending so I'm a little less anxious about waiting to hear back from PCOM now.

Hello! I’m a current PCOM-PA student. There’s a lot of confusion even among the current students of how this change will impact things. However, my understanding is that the summer break between first year and second year for the current first year class and beyond will only be four weeks. For reference, I’m a current second year and we only had five weeks.

For further context, the school is changing to trimesters because it was mandated by the PA Board of Education. It wasn’t a PCOM decision.

I could also be wrong about some of this so it wouldn’t hurt to check with school administration if you want more clarification.

I received an acceptance a few days ago! I'm a bit confused on the deposit stuff. It's telling me I need to pay a $250 deposit to confirm my seat. I would like to hold off on binding myself to this school for now. If I click confirm attendance, is it binding?

Oh! That’s every interesting to hear. I didn’t know the Board of Education could make policy that could affect post-secondary institutions, I thought it was only public secondary schools but I guess not. Does that mean all colleges and universities in PA will switch to a trimester system? I’m trying to do some research online but can’t find anything. Thanks!

I don’t know about other colleges and universities because I only have enough time in med school to worry about what’s going on at my school lol

I would really only worry about it if you’re applying to other schools in PA. Then it might be worth finding out if they’re switching to trimesters. Or they may already be on trimesters. Again, I don’t know.

in aacomas it says pcom start date is summer 3, looking at the calendar the third summer session begins June 30, 2025. is this the new trimester change? hype lol
replying to myself on this lol but does this mean that the cycle is shorter this year? should I be worried that I've only received radio silence 🙁

I'd be surprised if that date had any bearing on the app cycle. At that phase almost everyone has committed and only waitlist movement would be unexpected drop outs. I think by 4/30 AAMC makes you narrow down your choice, and I'd assume by extension by 6/1 most schools are locked in anyway.

That being said the spring has tons of movement and new interviews. There's a fair group of applicants with more than 1 A, and at some point in the next 4-6 months all those "accepted" seats will be turned back into II spots (depending on if the school will "over admit" early and offer more seats than they have, I'm not sure if this is common practice or if so at what point in the cycle they're overbooked.)

What sucks is I think the cycle will move slower in Nov/Dec and more interviews won't pick up until January. I'm not 100% sure this is a lot of speculation but the bottom line is (as exhausting as it is to hear and say) the cycle is FAR from over and as countless people on here and reddit attest, many current medical students, residents, and attendings didn't get the interview for their medical school until spring.

I interviewed on 10/8 and my portal is still at 5 bars… I’ve heard that 6 bars is indicative of post interview. Should I be concerned?

I interviewed with their Georgia campus, and it took a while to update to 6 bars. I wouldn't worry

its about to hit 6 weeks post interview when should I reach out about being stuck at 5 bars or should I even reach out to the school at all?

Hi,
I submitted in July and haven't heard anything back. My stats are above their requirements (but not so high as to be rejected for yield protection). I'm wondering if others with MCAT around 509/510 and GPA around 3.7 haven't heard anything--I'm also IS, actually nearby the school. thanks so much!

510 3.9 haven’t heard either, submitted in august

submitted secondary fee October 5th... any updates for interview invites for people who submitted around similar time?

I called the admissions office, but they had a voicemail reply to leave a message and that said they would get back to me ASAP. Has anyone had success contacting the office through the phone? How long did it take them to respond with a phone call?

Anyone have any thoughts on why someone IS with higher than their usual stats would not be getting an interview months after submitting?
