2024-2025 Texas A & M

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I doubt weeks and months. Pre-matched regular MD just got the prematch celebration email invite about a week before the first date.
Oh okay! that’s cool, I’m impressed by the quick turn around

just saw on the enmed instagram that they had an admitted students day. is it safe to assume that it's probably an R at this point? Not to keep asking about enmed in here, but this whole process is truly sending me for a spin
I did call them last week to ask about decisions. They told me that they do expect to have decisions out before rank day (sometime next week) (also don’t know if it’s like acceptances and rejections or just rejections lol) so IS applicants will know how to use that information for rankings. So I am hoping at least there will be some news this upcoming week!

Omg!! That makes me so nervous. Can I ask what number you called and how you asked them? Thinking about sending an email myself to ask but didn’t want to sound annoying and have that knock against me LOL

@docloading I know you are anxious while waiting to hear from A&M but you won’t accomplish anything helpful by calling them at this point.
You will have your answer very soon

I know EXACTLY how you feel, but I just have to keep telling myself that they’ve already made their decision and now I gotta wait for a formal notification, and calling/email won’t change anything since I doubt they’d tell me until a more official notification date anyway. Idk, I’m very anxious about this too because ENMED is my top choice by a mile

Was this regarding EnMed or TAMUSOM in general?

I totally understand. Tbh I didn’t want to call and be pushy. I just called as I was confused, as I was also under the impression that we would hear back prior to the 31st to understand how to incorporate that decision in ranking. I called the number that was attached to the emails they had been sending me. I just asked as politely as I could for some clarification and I was fully acknowledging that I could come off as annoying so I just tried to be as professional as possible. Typically I wouldn’t do anything of the sorts, but that decision potentially could impact my rank list heavily, so to me, it was worth asking and I didn’t want to wait until the last minute of this week because I am trying to finalize my list as early as I can.

Well, I for one appreciate that you called and let us know!

Seconding the previous person- thank you so much for reaching out to them and letting us know what they said! I've been considering emailing them to ask for an update, especially considering how close Match Day is, but I didn't want that to detract from the Letter of Intent I had previously sent and was struggling to figure out how to frame it. Regardless, thanks once again!! Holding onto hope for all of us!!

Has anyone heard from EnMed? The rank deadline is tomorrow. I know someone called earlier this week, but I still haven't heard any updates. It will be challenging to rank not knowing if we are ranking for EnMed or regular A&M.

@Solarry737 , EnMed is not filled through TMDSAS match. Did you interview with EnMed?
If A&M shows up on your portal, that is the regular MD.

If you should later get an offer from EnMed, you can withdraw from your Match School and go there instead.

Okay, that makes sense. Yes, I interviewed with EnMed. I wasn’t aware that it wasn’t part of the match. It was communicated at my interview that they would have decisions prior to match, and to me that sounded like then we would rank them accordingly for the match. But it doesn’t appear like they will be able to get the decisions out in time, so that’s a a relief to know that in the rank is regular A&M. @wysdoc thank you for clarifying.

I feel like this was explained differently during interviews. I was also under the impression that it was not separate from the match. What I remember from interviews was that they had planned to have decisions before tomorrow basically acting as a prematch. If rejected, I was under the impression that you could rank A&M and not the ENMED program. However if accepted, I thought you would technically be ranking the ENMED program. It’s just confusing haha even though I called already I’m still not sure about it. However given the timing it makes sense for it to be the other way so thank you for clarifying!

yeah, pretty frustrating how their communication is this year for sure.
Someone a few posts up was told by A&M that they would try to decide about the IS applicants at least before the ranking deadline so you could do your rank lists.

Totally confusing @TheGoodDinosaurStan and thank you for calling last week and sharing what you were told with others in your shoes.

All the prior years EnMed would interview a Texas applicant first, and if they decided to turn them down that applicant would be "released" to be under consideration for regular MD.

According to the TMDSAS Guide, Dual Degree applicants (MD/PhD, MD/JD, and EnMed which is MD/MEngineering) are not part of Match.
I'm sure you EnMed applicants have researched everything thoroughly - you're engineers for pete's sake, so it's frustrating that there seems to be no precision in the admissions process.:caution:

This is exactly what I thought as well. Maybe we will have answers tomorrow. Definitely has been a bit confusing though.

this is what was communicated to me too at interview day. And I remember them telling us that we would still have to rank TAMU on TMDSAS and participate in match regardless of whether it’s an A or not, and the prematch offer would just indicate if you’re ranking for enmed or for regular MD. I just remember them saying this bc I did NOT understand how match worked and asked a million clarifying questions. The lack of communication has honestly been frustrating, especially considering so many things are contingent on their decision (I.e. being considered for Regular MD if EnMed doesn’t work out). More than that, it is frustrating that they stated that decisions would be out by Christmas (giving benefit of doubt that things get backed up and slowed down) and if not that they’d be out well before the ranking deadline.

I frankly doubt that any additional information will be out by tomorrow with how slowly all of this has moved, but holding onto hope that maybe tomorrow will bring more news 🤷‍♀️

With so many seats at EnMed, it is time for TAMU to have two separate ranking lines in order not to confuse people during this decision making process. Many might choose EnMed over other choices, even over Dell/McGovern/Baylor etc but it is not the same for standard MD.

TAMU is still a great school for regular MD. be careful what you say online.

Putting Dell above TAMU is also really funny. Accepting LM 80s does not equal good research, good funding or good doctors.

The current pecking order in Texas - Baylor/UTSW/Dell=McGovern=EnMed/Long/UTMB/TAMU/.....

Meh the lines get blurry between McGovern, Dell, UTMB, TAMU and Long. It’s not as OBJECTIVELY clear cut as UTMB vs Baylor for example.

The only people who put Dell with Baylor and UTSW (the two clear standouts) are those who interviewed and desperately want to match there...

So, needless to say, I agree with you. 😘

Not really. I am surprised there is not a long ranking discussion this year like every year but people who interviewed in most places rank in that order.
People think more deeply if there is money involved.

Enmed is part of TAMU tho? Also, Houston rotations for EnMed and MD at tamu are at the exact same hospitals. Dell will be good eventually but saying it is clearly better than tamu is just not true. McGovern, UTMB, Dell, LONG and TAMU are all equally matched and excel at particular things. For example you can say Dell is better than Tamu bc it has seaton across the street, Austin, their staff, MD Anderson, and so on. But then you can say tamu is a better school bc it has triple the funding, research and reach since it has 4 satellite campuses associated with level 1 trauma centers , including one at TMC… so at that point the lines truly become blurry..

EnMed rotations are primarily at Methodist in medical center while TAMU is near willowbrook mall. Methodist in medical center is considered the primary methodist hospital in houston and was once upon a time, the primary partner for Baylor rotations, residencies, and fellowships.

The pecking order of schools has been based on national ranks, however bad the system of rankings might be and perceived prestige among students and how they rank in tmdsas after their interviews. I am not the one providing such information, merely conveying how people perceived them over the years.

The information provided in their website/ interview orientation pdf says Willowbrook and TMC are part of the regular MD rotations.
Hope that helps!

This is correct. For the regular track MD students, most rotations will be done at Willowbrook, however, for Psychiatry and Neurology (both required); those will be done at the TMC. Additionally, TMC Elective rotations not filled by enmed students can be selected by regular track students.

Is it disclosed which facility at the TMC for Psych & Neuro? I automatically assume Methodist but I don’t want to make assumptions.

After interviewing, I was also under the impression that we would hear our EnMed decision before the end of January. I still haven't heard anything, so I am very confused. Has anyone received any updates?

If you are an OOS applicant to EnMed there's nothing to do but wait some more 🙁

still no updates on my end, and I'm an IS Texas Residant applicant! I wonder if they're going to release more decisions after Match day to see how many of their prematch As match elsewhere??

tbh at this point i've lost all hope of receiving any decision altogether LOL (i'm being dramatic...but operating under that assumption to ease my anxiety and spare my own feelings)

I still haven't heard anything which has been a bummer since it would have definitely been helpful knowing prior to ranking especially since they had told me it would be before then, but I am sure admission decisions just got behind somehow so hopefully we will all know soon maybe haha. I tried calling back one day because at that point I was just curious and the call did not even go through and I noticed that their website is like revamped/different so maybe there's just a lot going on. However, I wish anyone who blindly ranked good luck on match day!
