2024-2025 Texas Tech Lubbock

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I saw that there will be a reapplicant seminar and file review at TTUHSC in March. The event is $40 or $20 for just a file review. Does anyone have any insight about whether the seminar is worth the cost? Trying to decide if I should go to the seminar or just do the file review. Thanks!!
Where did you find this info that looks tempting

if there is waitlist update soon, can we send them a loi? if so would that have to be done over an email since I don't think theres a submission link on the portal?

IS Waitlist received just now. If I matched at another school, until when do I have until I am withdrawn from the waitlist? Also, does anyone know how many they add onto the waitlist and how many they accept off the waitlist? Thank you!

MSAR procedures say they WL 50-100 and take ~20!

You are eligible to come off the WL until May 15 since you are a Texan with another TMDSAS acceptance

Out of curiosity, when tech says their waitlist is not ranked how do they choose which applicants to accept when a spot opens? No way they review everyone again so they have to have us separated in some sorta system right?

Post-II R. very disappointing even with an extra interviewer for FMAT ;-; tough

Low stat non-trad here. Riffing off of this for posterity: I went to the reapplicant seminar in '23 and '24 and requested file review both times as well. Did it make a difference? I got accepted this cycle, so I am inclined to say it did not hurt my application to Tech. I am unable to attribute what amount of positive change going in person to a reapp seminar made for my profile as an applicant, but I will admit I largely did it to know that I was doing everything reasonable and within my power to show interest in Tech. Plus I really just liked being there and feeling like I could actually place something tangible to the process. I found the file review to be more beneficial than the actual seminar's information since a large amount of it can be gleaned from SDN/Reddit/etc (strategies, timelines, some Tech/TMDSAS relevant stats breakdowns, etc.) but it certainly gives you the opportunity to help put a face to a name.

The advising team are great folks and genuinely want to see you succeed. Take whatever advice/help they are willing to lend if you can spare the few dollars and/or drive to Lubbock.

I don't know much about the reapplicant seminar, but I would wager it is worth the cost to personally meet/connect with admissions members- I know this has heavy weight at regionally similar schools like OU. Additionally, a friend of mine who got in last year (with low stats) largely attributed his success to meeting with admissions members at outreach fairs, so it couldn't hurt!

Hey there everyone! Congrats to everyone that matched, and to anyone that didn't keep the faith, it will all work out the way it should.

I am a current MS1 at TTUHSC along with @Howdie and if you guys have any questions about the school, Lubbock or anything else don't hesitate to DM or ask! Hope to see y'all here this summer!

Current IS waitlist, I know they say theres more movement in the spring but I got an acceptance to an OOS school, and even without the tremendous tuition difference Tech has always been my top choice. I think the answer is we just have to wait and see, but what are the odds of coming off the waitlist before June? Or coming off the waitlist at all?

From the MSAR last year it says 20 got in off the waitlist and the waitlist had 50-100 people on it. From what I understand it varies every year so you can use those numbers as a reference but no one really knows what the chances are this year, but Im pretty sure the vast majority of waitlist movement should come before June.

Fun little update for WL's- Admissions responded to an update letter email stating that WL candidates should receive a some form of update last week of March as they're currently reviewing the alternate pool post-match day. So hopefully some of us will get some good news at the end of this month!

OOS WL! If the wait-list isn't ranked, how do they make their decisions? They reevaluate everyone again?

If some people leave the class for other schools, the admissions committee will meet to discuss the applicants on the WL and see who they will make offers to.

I imagine that it depends on who leaves the school. OOS spots will probably be replaced with OOS WL students, and IS spots in the same way. I also imagine that they don't want it ranked because they hope to have a diverse class. For instance, if someone they took because they are an excellent researcher leaves, maybe they'll replace that spot with someone who is an excellent researcher from the WL. Same goes for any major differentiating factor. From what I know, their WL is pretty small (50-100 spots) and they offer about 20 students spots off the WL each year. Either way, 1/2-1/4 odds is pretty good, but it always will vary from year to year. Hope this answers your question, but make sure to take it with a grain of salt--I'm just a pre-med that doesn't know much, I'm just guessing really

I wonder if that means the updates they were talking about have started or if they already sent out all the As to the ppl they’re taking off the waitlist for the time being
