Currently pre-writing, how should I approach the question about coming from an underserved community if I didn't? Is it tone deaf to acknowledge that privilege and then move on to experiences that have helped me to gain an understanding of underserved areas? Grew up in the suburbs, attended a rural OOS college, want to practice in rural GA

No, I haven't received any word at all (ED). I'm a little nervous considering it seemed people were getting IIs only a few weeks from now the same time last year. Have you gotten any word yet?

Hey y'all, I'm a current student at Mercer and would be happy to answer any questions you have. Good luck!
What kind of students do they accept? I’m a ga resident 3.8gpa, but haven’t taken MCAT yet. Studying but it isn’t going well. Also with the BBB cost is a big factor now so Mercer or Augusta are really some of my main options.

Mercer cares about alignment with their mission far more than academic stats. They really want students with primary care experience who wish to practice in rural and underserved areas. Its not the end of the world if you don't perfectly match their mission, but it will certainly help your chances a lot more than higher stats.

I would love to hear about your experience at Mercer so far. Anything about professors, opportunities for research, student life, anything you can share about the different campuses, etc.

Thanks!

My experience at Mercer has been great. We have class 2-4 times a week, and very rarely 5. This consists of mostly problem based learning where small groups of students will be given a case and work through it with a professor. The professors on all campuses are very knowledgeable and more than happy to help you understand the material. All lectures are recorded and students have access to the lectures of other campuses too. Most students have plenty of free time to pursue whatever activities they wish as the curriculum lays out exactly what everyone one is expected to know by the end of a given week. Research is very straight forward at Mercer; anyone who wants to do research through the school is effectively guaranteed a position. Prior to research opportunities starting, they will send out a list of all the active projects and their descriptions. You then rank them based on your preference and you'll be matched to a research position after review from the research faculty. If you find a 3rd party research program you're interested in, you just send in an application explaining it to get it approved. Mercer has a policy of "three campuses one school", so most of the student organizations and activities are available on all three campuses. Macon has the most student infrastructure due to being on the undergrad campus, the Savannah campus is basically on the beach, and the Columbus campus is the newest and highest tech. You can't really go wrong with any of the campuses, but I highly recommend touring them to find which is the best fit for you.

submitted app in May and have not received secondaries yet....just curious, how does a school notify you about a secondary application? is it through AMCAS or do they send you an email? I'm currently retaking my mcat for a better score, but my old score is still eligible for a secondary, so do they wait to send me the secondary until after the retake exam, or do they just send it, since I already have one score...thank u!

Schools will email you when they start sending secondaries out. Mercer has not sent out secondaries yet. If you indicated on your primary application that you are retaking the mcat they will send you the secondary when they start sending it out, and they will wait for your new mcat score to review your whole application.

So they won’t review your app at all if u indicated ur retaking even if u meet the min to get a secondary and then send that in before y get a new score?

They will review your app but they also will wait for your new score

I submitted my primary for the ED cycle with my most recent score but I'm taking my MCAT September (a little late I know). I won't have a score until October, which is when ED decisions are released. Does that mean I will just be deferred to the regular pool?

I'm not sure about that one. You would have to call them and ask them about that situation.

Just sending this as an update for anyone looking. I have not received Secondaries yet. I have emailed a member of faculty at the suggestion of a current student to see about a timeline but also have not received a response.
Did you ever hear back?

Still nothing? I am starting to lose sleep, and I believe I may be developing early onset schizophrenia with delusions of grandeur, paranoia, and insomnia. Is this a normal time frame, especially for ED?

Thank you for your patience. We are experiencing much needed upgrades to our side of the AMCAS application system and as such no secondaries have been sent out. We have a target of early next week to send out any secondary applications that are warranted at that time.

Thank you for your patience and please let us know if you need anything further.

The email I got

I have a challenging question and genuinely want your honest perspective: why should we choose Mercer over MCG?

Also, for anyone who chose Mercer via Early Decision instead of MCG, could you please share what factors influenced your decision? I’m trying to weigh my options
