CCOM versus WVSOM

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
CCOM. Over 100 years old, well established, multiple residency and fellowship programs, great facilities, and some program directors and faculty in Chicago area MD programs are CCOM alums...oh and it's in Chicago.

No love for one of the few public osteopathic medical schools?

I loved WVSOM and I would be hard pressed not to pick CCOM.

For people who interviewed at both, can you offer some insight. Seems like big city versus small town to me. Feels like you get what you need at both places.

Honestly if you have been accepted to both and you're trying to decide, there is no reason to listen to anyone on here. Everyone has their own opinions. I've never BEEN to WVSOM but I know people that go there and have heard about the place. It's seems very different than what CCOM is surrounded by. I think you really need to look at the missions of the schools and what you are surrounded by in terms of location and rotations because that will ultimately give you the best experience for the type of physician you want to be. IMO, suburban and/or urban work = CCOM. Rural/underserved work = WVSOM. Though, you could still go into the other type of work if you don't go to the specified school, obviously.

Bottom line, they both are very different schools in terms of fit - you should know which one better suits you. That's what's most important. Not what people on here think 🙂 no offense SDN world 😉

Totally agree. OP it depends on what you're looking for. I want to be a rural FP which is why WVSOM is my choice.

You should talk to a current student at both universities and ask about how the whole class is doing. Attrition or w.e they call their retention.
I have heard great things about ccom
