Class of 2020... how you doin?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Three weeks to spring break. I can handle this for three more weeks. Right?

we have 1 week until spring break, but 3 exams this week..

Just feeling lonely and stupid and worthless right now. Blah.

Six tests now stand between me and spring break. Gotta push through it.
Definitely never alone. Any of us here would be happy to talk to you if you ever need it 🙂

Hugs. You got this!

People keep trying to convince me to be in leadership and mentoring positions in class and clubs and whatnot and I'm just like

Best-Interview-Moments-in-Movies-2.gif
I have 3 officer positions and I don't know why

Aren't you sunshine chair? Or was that Abs?
No, that's me as well. Somehow didn't click that I would have, like, actual responsibilities and be on the actual class council until it was too late. I thought I just got to plan fun things

Our new official job is to plan activities to increase class moral during stressful times or dealing with issues in the class. Our class didn't vote on a council until the end of the semester so we're still ironing somethings out we should have already done since our class is full full of slackers

I regret all my life choices when I think about why on earth I thought it was a good idea to be on the class council.

I went temporarily insane. Only logical answer.
I went temporarily insane 3 times I guess

Thanks, all. I lurf SDN.😍

This is pretty much the complete opposite of my class. I was all super excited last week because I got a 90 on our pathology test---finally, an A on a test and something I actually seem to have somewhat of a knack for! And then I found out that the class average was a 97. And pretty much all of our class averages for tests are like that, including those tests with historically really low averages. Definitely doesn't do much for the self-esteem to literally always be below average because your class is full of genius gunners. Haha.

I did again as well. I applied for officer positions in a few clubs. Why? I don't know.
Honestly there's another club I'll probably apply for a position in once elections come up.

I'm also looking at one of the chair positions for planning a symposium. Wtf, me.

I'm a little concerned my class is going to be like this next year just because of how competitive this cycle has been. I'm hoping the fact that CSU reintroduced interviews means that they probably weeded out any total sociopaths though, but you can never be too sure.

But also sometimes I am just too chill to function so I may just look way behind the rest of the class because of that. 😛

I seem to always forget I hate everyone until it's too late and I'm involved. You appear to have that problem as well.

Congrats on your A though, that's still awesome 😀

Oh, grade wise it's a totally different story  Anatomy averages in high 80s, everything else 90s for the most part. Aside from anatomy I usually do well on exams. And then I'll find out I got average or just above or below and be like well damn. It's just what happens when a class is made up of 100+ high achieving individuals 😛 frustrating though to get a 95 on a phys test and then find out that was the mode

I know why I always did stuff like that, and it's because if I'm ever not terminally busy I'll die
I'm clearly still not busy enough
Too much free time means I never get anything done because "I'll have time to do it later"

Yeesh. Yeah, for sure.

For the most part, people here aren't too snobby or anything... but then you hear things through the grapevine about how a friend wasn't allowed to study with a certain group of classmates because she wasn't "in the top 5% of the class like us" or have a professor address the entire class about academic dishonesty because it came out that there were people who cheated on a quiz that was worth a whopping 2 points (and this has happened a couple of times now). People complaining about getting an A-, etc.

Meanwhile, I'm here like... man, if I can just get my GPA up to a 3.0 after the disaster that last semester was, I will be happy. 😛

Holy ****. We definitely have a few total gunners that can be jerks about grades, but for the most part my class is pretty chill as supportive of each other. That's awful.

It's definitely a minority of students who are like that, but they can be quite vocal. The majority of the class is pretty supportive of everyone. Which is good. But there are a lot of gunners.

I've been told by multiple VM2s and a couple VM3s that our class isn't very involved in non-school things in general, seems super uptight about everything, and needs to chill out, so I guess it isn't just me noticing this. Hopefully things mellow out a bit after this year.

This sounds familiar 🙄
Haven't had any of the cheating or super gunning as far as I know though. Everyone really is very supportive. Just also...very tightly wound sometimes.

Ha, I've been told that about the class above me. And they apparently were complaining we were slackers because we weren't going to open lab for surgery. Forget the part that when we did the second and third years were jerks so we all avoided going for a while 😛

It's funny how much class culture differs between years.

Yikes, that sounds horrible and so disrespectful to your friend. And, me being me, I have a very hard time holding my tongue when people act like that and I think I would accidentally make some enemies in class if that happened anywhere near me. Which is a separate problem in and of itself.

Hopefully people calm down as time goes on but for real, if anybody is pulling crap with you let me at 'em. We'll have a lovely and very polite conversation about professionalism and not acting like snooty troglodytes in public.

Although I may lowkey be someone who complains when I get an A-, but I at least know it's a stupid thing to complain about and keep it to myself. 😳 Perfectionism is a bad trait.

Holy carp! How do people know where others are in the class ranking? I never even looked up my class rank, lol. To this day, I don't know where I ranked amongst my classmates. I may never survive. 😉

Canada must be a strange place where averages are super low... lol. Our class averages for our anatomy exams have been around 65, our physio exam averages have been around 80... Only exams where the averages have been above 90 is our Clinical Presentations course, which is literally 15 multiple choice questions that are super straight forward and basically question whether you read the powerpoints. And I wouldn't call our class slackers by any means, a lot of people are staying on campus until 10pm 3-4 times a week studying, staying up until the wee hours of the morning, etc. So your guys' averages blow my mind

You are my spirit animal.

Most of my class is complaining that they aren't getting like 70 or 80% in anatomy. Then there's me: I would probably sacrifice a small child to the gods just to squeak up to a C-. 0.3% away right now and it is so close I can taste it.

This last week also sucked for me and I felt like the one stupid person they let into vet school when all my classmates are smart and school is easy for them. So I feel your feels and feel free to PM me anytime since it sounds like we live in similar boats, friend.

Just too chill to function is me and @SARdoghandler's life motto
Pretty much. Except for the occasional 24-48 hour period when it's like "I AM A FAILURE AT LIFE", not worth my energy getting worked up over things. #wingit

Are the grading systems equivalent though? I know numerical values in some countries mean very different things from how the US would interpret the same score. I don't know what Canada's system is though.

Here's our grading table... So make of that what you will! I have absolutely 0 idea how the American system works
