Class of 2022...how you doin'?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Is this a giant computer monitor @Vombatidae ? How does this work??
Kind of. It's actually a stand alone device. Like a touchscreen computer mixed with a TV. I can cast from a phone or computer, plug in to any device, or just use it by itself. The plan is to pull up pdfs and PowerPoint from class to practice on but also normal study stuff too.

would you mind if I asked how much this set you back? it seems like a great setup!

I'm kinda terrified with our schedule! The lecture and lab schedules have already been posted and it's freaking me out that I have only anatomy and it's 5 days a week!!!!
Wait Miranda where is it posted?! Haha I can’t find it and they didn’t email us or anything

Go to the internal website, log on (symbol in upper right hand corner), and it should take you to your main courses since we're already registered for classes and click on the anatomy class and...PRESTO!!! Crazy scary schedule appears :claps:

Ahhhh I’m scared to check! Lol thank you!

Hahaha it's intimidating for sure but we got this!! :soexcited:
When do you all get to do radiology? I have a great friend up there who just took on a full time position up there. Not sure if it's strictly clinical or also a teaching or strictly teaching position. I think she's amazing and the only reason I wish on some remote level that I was going to Cornell

From what I can tell, we don't have an "official section" but it seems that we learn about it in neuroanatomy (applications for it), as well as in our animal health and disease block. It is also a requirement of our clinical rotations as well 🙂
Here's our breakdown of blocks that we get:

Cornell's scheduling is quite interesting...You all do PBL though too right? WSU is set up much more like traditional undergrad in the scheduling sense. It's all so interesting. Anyway, I'm sure you'll end up meeting her. She genuinely loves to teach and I'm sure you'll meet her at some point!

You'll have to PM me her name so I can find her!! And we do PBL only for certain blocks with anatomy being the only one I know as being PBL so far. But I thoroughly enjoy the tutor group style of teaching in some aspects as I find I retain info better when I teach the basics myself 🙂

I think PBL goes through 2nd year. I remember a student saying that at the info session.

Is anyone else afraid they’re going to get to vet school next month and find out that their acceptance was sent out by mistake and you’re not actually supposed to be there.

No? Oh it’s just me OK...
Pretty common feeling, lots of people experience imposter syndrome 🙂 don't worry, your acceptance was real, and you are supposed to be there!

Haha I had a mini meltdown about being a vet in my WW chat with AM, KD, and Sporty the other night. We all get worried about it at some point [emoji5]

I was literally talking to @kaydubs about this the other day!! She gave great advice! "You’ll learn that it’s not a mistake because the days will be hard and full of work." She is a wise lady 😀

Is this like AA? Do I get a chip?

And thanks everyone. I didn’t realize how common of a thing this was.
Neither did I 🙂 I think with school coming up so fast it's getting uber scary to think about diving in to this work. I've been reading all of the old class of pages and I'm getting nervous 😛

So common. Some days I'm still pretty sure it was a mistake. But it's just too late for them to take it back now so I can... relax?

And don't worry...imposter syndrome doesn't even end when you graduate vet school! [currently in denial that I become the 'senior resident' on Monday]

Exactly. Your DVM won’t cure you of imposter syndrome. (Unfortunately...)

My mom keeps a rolling calendar. She rolled it today. My official move date is now on there. It's kinda weird because it feels far away but at the same time not. I've lived in the same town for 23 years and done some activities weekly for as long as 17 years. Every Monday my vet who wrote my lor asks me if I'm ready? Buyers remorse? Etc. Actually been pretty calm about it all. Like I told one of the techs I'm super close with yeah part of you is leaving everything you've ever known. You're leaving the routines and people who have been in your life for so long. Of course part of that is scary. However while it is a bit nerve wracking I wouldn't change it. It's the next step in my life and the one that's right for me which in my case involves moving half way across the country. Plus I've lived in a foreign country for a month not knowing much except "thank you" so it'll be fine. Plus I have friends up there already. Just putting thoughts out there.

I'm moving in a little over a week and I've lived with my bf for over 2 years (1 year by ourselves) and we've been together for 3.5 years and I know it's going to be a crazy hard adjustment to not be living with him anymore. I'm so excited for vet school (and super nervous!) but when we pack a little more each day, it makes me incredibly sad. We're not even changing time zones and we'll only be 5.5 hours away from each other (I know a lot of people have it way worse) but I'm still just so sad about it. I feel guilty for getting excited about vet school and my bf keeps telling me to stay excited and that he's happy for me. He's so amazing and supportive, I just...ughh I'm just gonna miss him like crazy!!!

I feel you 110% part of me wanted my fiance to stay here for a bit because he will have some unfinished business through like Christmas. We've never lived together but he is adamant about coming with me for his own personal reasons. As I get closer to that date I get more thankful that he has decided to come evening it means life is a bit harder for a few months. It'll be nice having him there. An adjustment but nice.

I'm so happy you'll be able to have him with you! My bf was just given an amazing job opportunity to work at a great company (he's a software engineer) and it would have been so incredibly selfish of me to drag him to Ithaca 🙁 I'm so incredibly proud of him because he worked so hard to get that job and it will be the best thing for us since he'll have been able to get a big boost financially! We plan on seeing each other no less than once a month (hopefully every other weekend). Also, he's going to miss our cat and parrot so much!!! We talked about him getting a cat but he's going to wait until after the first year in case my cat living with my roommates pets doesn't work out (I literally give him 3 months before he gets a cat though haha). I just want to get into a rhythm so something feels normal and certain!

Also, what’s a rolling calendar
She has an erasable calendar that may go from the first of one month to the 5th of the next month (so whatever fits on the calendar) then when she gets to the end of the calendar she puts up the new "month" so to say. So if say the calendar is from the first of july to the 5th of August when she rolls it it may go from the 6th of August to the 15th of September. Sometimes she rolls it mid month if we have alot going on coming up.

Yup, I am currently sitting here attempting to convince myself that I did not kill this aggressive dog with the massive amounts of drugs I gave it.

You are a good vet, you did not **** up, the dog walked out of the clinic, it will be ok.

You are a good vet. And, everything will shake out just fine. *hugs*
