Class of 2022...how you doin'?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
GREAT QUESTION.

deadline is June 1st, I’m planning on having everything in mid-May
BOO
is it possible to do month by month with your place if your lease ends soon? Or if not and it’s up soon, can you get a buyout part written in your lease if you don’t already have one so if you need to actually sign your lease you can break it by paying X amount???

It’s not unfortunately. My landlord is very old fashioned. Current plan is sublet my room for next year (which I surprisingly got a potential subletter this evening) and if I don’t get the transfer, I’ll find a 1 bedroom somewhere around. Plans for if I do get the transfer are already set thankfully (moving back in with bf).

I went to a talk for nutrition club today (bc free food). They brought in a commercial raw diet company.

Oh man it was painful to sit through. I don’t know if they’ve ever given a talk to people in the veterinary field before. Literally all of us students were asking tons of questions and their answers were NOT satisfactory.

The good thing that I realized after it was that I 100% would’ve fallen for the marketing ploy before vet school. Now that I know about nutrition, grain free diets, and parasitology.... yeah, no thanks.
Out of curiosity, what company?

Apparently a more "holistic" brand came to ours recently. I just got free chipotle and left. But some people went to the talk and said it was weird lol.

Well luckily it wasn't a "raw food" company that presented last week. The nutrition aspect of their food seemed fine but their dog food is insanely expensive, and their presentation was very dramatic. At least I got Chipotle and a free tote bag out of it!

What's up guys? Talk to me. School has been going well, just tired all the time (I'm sure everyone can relate)! I just want summer to come soon! We have 12 more days of classes left! Since we're in a major block, we only have 1 final but it's a 2 day final and it covers a whole bunchastuff! We have 2 quizzes left, on cardio and respiratory. But yeah, come back y'all and let's talk about school 🙂

Done May 16th!! We have formal on the 4th... super excited to dance and have fun!
I have 2 presentations, a quiz, 2 OSCEs, 6 exams, and 2 SIMS between now and then... so excited to be in the final stretch!! We are on GI phys currently, at the end of Anesthesiology and starting LA clinical anatomy unit.
Got 2 jobs for this summer and I’m excited to go back to tech work!!

Have a phone interview for a zoo shadow for part of summer while I'm home. Knowing basically anything zoo is so difficult to get into I feel no matter what I say in regards to "what I'm looking for" out of this experience wont be good enough...

You’ll be great!!! I’m super excited for you for the opportunity you’ll have. Ultimately, it would be their loss to not consider you. And I always tell myself that if a place doesn’t want me, maybe it’s for the best and maybe it wouldn’t have been a good fit for me. A blessing in disguise and hope for different doors to open up to you.
I have no doubt that you’ll kick that interviews butt though!

Halfway done with finals, thank god.

I was midway through my LA anatomy final today and I thought to myself “I want to be DONE, this thing has got to be over soon.” I still had 8 pages left :arghh::bigtears:
Felt the same way with our immuno final. Mostly because I was flaky with my answers and got into a downward spiral of well this is right if...2 more at least we have tomorrow off so I can cram some pathology into my head. Stupid neoplasia tissues that dont play by the naming rules will kill me I'm sure of it.

On the bright side I got out of my final to a pleasant email from our LA anatomy team informing us everyone passed that course [emoji4]

Also does anyone else face some deep internal existential crisis during every finals weeks or is it just me? I always come to a revelation of like “oh ****, this song I’ve been listening to is really reflective of my life right now and I should really implement some better self care” or “wow this relationship with this one person is super not healthy, I need to cut ties”.

Probably just another way my brain is trying to derail me from studying.

Yes actually, the rest of the time I just bury my issues

Anyone wanna trade me one GI phys final for path, neuro, immunology, or anatomy final? Guaranteed passing results on the previous exams.
Is it still Davis teaching it?

Literally just do a bunch of the old exams. Unless he’s changed the format, he uses the same question bank every year. Only questions I missed on that exam weren’t on the three I had done

I’m 25% a vet and I’m in denial.

I’ve taken so many exams these past 3 months that I have forgotten what it’s like to be a free human. Like, what do I do now?
Also read all the books and play all the games. Go hiking and do all the stuff you would've loved to do but you said to yourself "but I have to study"

Sleep. Binge Netflix. Sleep some more. Go sit in the sun and tell your brain “NO” every time it tries to go, “But shouldn’t you be doing...”
Thank you. That last part especially is going to be tough but I’ll do my best!

Ooooh yeah trashy romance novel time.

I went out to get ice cream to celebrate being done and it was subpar, but then I got home and my cats were cuddly so it was a nice reward 🙂

Yas! Plus trashy food (within reason of course 😉)

Turns out this whole applying to transfer vet schools thing is a giant clusterfrack. Housing being my #1 concern right now. Oh, and it’s finals week.

I applied to transfer last semester. Brought everything I owned home over the break. No open seats in the class, so I had to hall everything back. Good luck! I applied again but have low hopes.

Aww where did you apply to transfer to both times??
Since I only took one semester of O chem, my options are extremely limited. I think there’s only 3 schools I can transfer to. I applied to KSU both times and I’m debating if I should try Illinois even though they rarely take transfers.

I mean might as well try it since it’s your IS and you could get cheaper tuition, yes? (And also be classmates with me 😛)

It looks like they posted class status towards the end of May last year, so I’ll probably wait to see if there’s any openings before I pay to apply. But IS tuition would be absolutely wonderful

I will joining the class of 2023 and just out of curiosity.... what do you guys plan on doing this summer? Staying at school vs. going back home, taking time off vs. getting a cool internship? That kind of stuff! You have to get through the first year to even start summer so I have a long way to go lol😉 just want to know what to expect!

I’m uh
Sitting on my couch at home for part.

Shadowing at 2 places a bit and working at my non-vet job for the rest (paid better than my vet job 🙄)

Im staying at the school since I will be working a research assistant job at the school and working some nights at a ER clinic. Definitely taking time to enjoy summer tho!

I'm working at the hospital in the SA ER and I get 3 weeks off for the summer and i'm spending them relaxing with my family and boyfriend 🙂 Also, I'm moving into my new place

I'm staying home (I've lived in Minneapolis since before vet school). I'm taking a week off to get myself back together, then I will be working at a clinic as a vet assistant, shadowing at an exotics clinic, and volunteering with the local wildlife rehab center. I may also get to volunteer with a kitten rescue too! There's also a club that holds clinics during the summer that I want to volunteer with to get more clinical skills practice.
I'm doing so much because I want to work with exotic pets and that pretty much requires experience/education outside of school. I also want to keep my exam skills sharp!

These all sound great! I am from California so I would really like to go home for summer bc weather, beach, family, and to pick up some shifts at my current ER job that I will miss so much!! But mainly to sit on my couch like @SkiOtter  I can already feel how much I will need that lol

I’ll be working in SA GP during the summer (doing baby doctor stuff), better paying than my ER/specialty mid-shift job... also wanted a nice break this summer, so I figured SA GP would give me that. Also, going to travel home and elsewhere with my SO. Planning on having a fairly relaxing summer, thinking next summer about working in a non-vet med environment (for the better pay).

I’m on a RAVS trip right now (BTW - if you haven’t heard of RAVS, look it up! It is an INCREDIBLE experience!) and will be working with the Michigan Humane Society for June and July for a new vet student job program they are starting this year! I’m looking forward to building up my exam and surgery skills over the course of the summer (and already have been in the past two days with RAVS!). Also looking forward to a couple of free weeks in August to sit on my butt and watch TV though!!

Staying at school bc job bc monies. Shadowing one day a week. Then I'm outta here for a month going to my bffs wedding then home-going back to shadow at vet at home and then hopefully some zoo stuff plus relax time. I'll be back for like 2 weeks then I'm going to DC for AVMA convention. Home for 2 weeks then back to the books.

One friend is spending a month doing research in a different state and presenting at a conference back east then hanging out for the rest the summer.

One classmate is doing an exotics trip to belieze and then Paris with her boyfriend.

There are many opportunities for you to do. Definitely take some time to recharge. Things fell into place last minute for me otherwise I would have been having a very lazy summer.
