Class of 2022...how you doin'?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Leaving in 1 week to move across the country (by car) with my dog and of course she starts limping today. Won't put weight on RFL and my boss/vet told me to bring her in tomorrow to check it out. This better just be a strain because I can't right now haha

I am putting a dresser and my bed in a friend's U-Haul, and will be filling all of the drawers full (sorry whoever has to load it 😛 ).

I could definitely fit the rest in my car; the problem is that I am doing an 8 day roadtrip through major tourist areas and anything visible makes it more likely that my car will get broken into. So I need to fit whatever didn't fit in the dresser into my little hatchback trunk. I will probably end up having to through some clothes in the back seat area, especially since my friend will need to bring her trip stuff as well.

I moved in 3 days ago and used a 15 foot U haul and it worked perfectly. I do recommend to get one of those theft resistant locks that look like this:

I had a friend whose u haul was broken into when she was staying in a hotel overnight. She had a traditional lock and they cut it off with lock cutters.

Pro tip, bag stuff in black trash bags and bring **** up into hotel room and don't leave visible **** in the car. Mostly it should be fine. Good luck!

also, like, just leave all your clothes that are already on hangers ON hangers and put a white garbage bag over the bottom and with the tie things across the hangers. BAM YOU DONT HAVE TO FOLD CLOTHES OR REHANG THEM.

Pro tip, back your truck up against a back wall at the hotel so you can't access the back door. Don't have to touch it, just 6 inches away will keep anyone from accessing the back.

We parked our truck right up on the butt of the uhaul so it would be a bitch to get stuff out without sounding the truck alarm[emoji6]

Packing up to move tomorrow and my dog started peeing blood (highly concentrated). Rushed her to the vet and they think it is bladder cancer. She's a foster failure dog that I adopted 3 years ago. I'm heartbroken 🙁

I'm so sorry.

Sorry to hear this 🙁

Wishing and hoping that you get positive news regarding your dog and that she’s okay!

However, if she is diagnosed with cancer, Purdue does have an amazing oncology department with ongoing bladder cancer research. The Drs and techs there are truly incredible!

Are Dusty and Maple staying at home or going with you?
They are staying with my parents at least for first semester. They need so much attention and I want to make sure I would be able to give them that. My apartment is pet friendly though, so I may bring them in December.

Also my parents really want them to stay 😛

Just re-happened upon this thread. It's crazy everyone is starting so soon. I don't start for another 6 weeks. It will be odd being on trimesters instead of semesters but I'm glad for the extra long summer. Also I tried vetbooks.ir and it did work. Woohoo lol. Also I think I'm taking 18 credits, although I'm not really sure what that means

Back from vacation in 4 days
Leave for orientation in 5 days
Start class in 12 days
Bedding finally gets delivered in 13 days😴

Orientation is tomorrow!!! Classes start on Monday but orientation still runs through the first week (yayyy free lunches!!).
I'm excited, nervous, and so freaking tired already!
Wow that's so crazy early! Have fun! I will be living vicariously through everyone until my orientation in 40 days haha

So exciting! I'm on quarter system too but we start at the end of the month for some strange reason.
That is weird! Maybe you get out earlier? I think finals are the first week of December for us (ugh lol)

Instead of the quarter ending before Christmas, we split the second quarter with Christmas break, because fall quarter ends before Thanksgiving. Not sure that I love it since we have to study over Christmas [emoji31]

Oh yeah I def wouldn't like that just because I would forget things in that gap haha. Do you have a shorter winter break then?

Yes, two weeks for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, but then we are done with the year by early May, so I guess that's nice lol

Um hello I’m still in school until the four days before Christmas

Our last day of class last year was the 22nd. -_- Then I drove to Denver on the 23rd to make it family events on the 24th. It blizzarded from Ogallala to Denver, making I-76 become a 6 hour adventure from a 3 hour adventure. Ex-Suburban's fuel pump died 24.7 miles from my parents' house (still blizzarding). When it was all said and done, I left Champaign at 5 am, walked through my parents' door at 2 am (3 am champaign time). This was the trip that killed my 20 year old Chevy.

You cannot imagine how much rage I felt when I realized that this break was going to start on the 22nd. Why would you end classes the day before the biggest travel date of the year?!?!?!?!?

It’s cause MWU is weird and does 4 quarters of classes in a year, instead of normal quarter schools where you only have 3 with the 4th being summer haha

The ugh was more relating to the thought of finals in vet school haha. Looks like I have a lot less school in 2018 than y'all but prob quite a bit more in 2019 for first year.

Our orientation starts next week!
I moved up here 2 weeks earlier than originally planned and don't have my dog with me yet so I've had nothing to do lol. Spent yesterday browsing every open thrift store in town 👍

DEVA!!!! :claps:

I feel like I haven't seen you around in a while! (Or I'm unobservant - usually it's that 😉) Congrats on your acceptance!!!

When do you go back after Christmas?
I honestly have no idea, and the website is acting up right now. Looks like we get out June 8th though, so probably about a month after everyone else. We prob start and end a month later.

Thank you! 😍 Nah you're definitely right, I have been pretty scarce and sporadic over the past year  it's been a wild ride! still hard to believe it's actually happening...exciting, but I'm also really worried about how classes are gonna go haha.

I feel you. I'm starting grad school and I'm really excited, but I'm also pretty terrified about the whole research thing. I hope no one expects immediate progress from me because I'll be bumbling around for a while. I'm only taking 4 credits of actual classes, so hopefully that part isn't too bad.

Ooh, what are you planning on doing/researching in grad school? Over this spring and summer, I periodically helped a PhD student with her research. We necropsied quail to obtain counts of nematodes/cestodes 👍

Animal genetics! I'm looking at parasite resistance in sheep, but I don't know any specifics yet or even what stage the project is in since the previous student left. I haven't done anything remotely similar to this ever before, haha. It'll definitely be a steep learning curve.

We will be doing occasional necropsies, so at least I'll get to feel like I know how to do something every once in a while. 😉

As of this morning I have begun my move!

So far:
1. I boarded the ferry in my vehicle while my poor roadtrip copilot remained on solid ground since they boarded me while she was jumped out to use the washroom.
(They got her back on)

2. Went to IKEA for the first time, and bought a lovely floor lamp for my room.

3. I had Chipotle for the first time, and quite enjoyed it!
