I've done a boatload of research into both Duke and Yale, and I don't know where to go. I love the idea of the Yale system, but Duke's compressed time line is also incredible. Both schools have incredible opportunities for research and great facilities. New Haven isn't great, and Durham has gotten better the past few years, but neither is a true game changer. I'm expecting that money will be close to equal, but I could be wrong. I don't know what specialty I want, so I can't really go based off of match lists (to specific programs, both lists look great overall) Any thoughts or input would be appreciated.

I think the curriculum is VERY different at each school. Are you very independent? Will you still study even when exams are optional? Do you want a head start on your clinical rotations, or possibly more time to study for the USMLE? I'd suggest writing to each school and asking if you could get the contact info for some students (I'd suggest students in their clinical years because they can give you a better indication of what pre-clinical AND clinical learning is like).

Tough choice. They both seem very similar in reputation, and both are a little quirky (Yale system or research time at Duke). Isn't Duke Medical Center more highly regarded than Yale-New Haven Hospital?

Flip a coin and see if you're happy or just a little disappointed with the result 😀

Yale!!!

I need a roommate next year man!

i've seen financial aid play a significant role on the closely ranked schools - have you gotten both packages?

Honestly I was not that impressed with Yale's hospital but the freedom in the curriculum is what made Yale stand out for me.

I really think though that either one will get you where you want to go--the difference is how you spend the time based on curriculum. I was also told that more than half of the class takes the 5th year at Yale.

Whoa, no need to be rude. Of course there are worse problems, there always are. Doesn't mean it isn't a legitimate question.
