- Medical Student (Accepted)
Thanks in advance everyone. I pretty much came down to these two schools. I was able to attend OUWB second look, but not Hofstra's. I come from CA and I eventually want to match back into CA or other major cities on the east coast.
Hofstra
Pros
-Near NYC (how much does this matter?)
-8-12 almost everyday
-Better research opportunity
-Higher Step 1 score and average GPA/MCAT for accepted students are higher (does this mean anything?)
-possibly better weather in NY than Michigan?
-possibly better chance to match in great hospitals in NY
-great facility
Cons
-More expensive (expecting ~150k total in loans)
-I did not "click" with the current students I met at Hofstra.
OUWB
Pros
-Cheaper (expecting ~60k total in loans)
-loved students and faculties during interview and second look
-I could see that the school is extremely supportive of students in many different ways.
-Great hospital system
Cons
-Location; I haven't fully explored the area yet, but it seems pretty bleak.
-8-4 schedule almost everyday
-weaker research opportunity
-weather
I guess it really comes down onto the cost. Is Hofstra worth 80-100k more for its opportunities and location?
