LECOM-Bradenton Discussion Thread 2009-2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
That's also funny considering we are a PBL school.... So no lecturers (few exceptions aside) and thus no outright focus on boards or any other slant a lecture might focus on.

If by teaching for the boards they mean we basically read through the basic sciece textbooks that any board question would come from then yeah, I guess so. 😀

There is the flexibility to use numerous other resources such as board review material in addition to the actual texts so for a lot of people they've already been studying for 2 years out of the materials that they will be using for board review.

I got accepted yesterday too! I interviewed 10/30 with MSUSpartan642. This is my first acceptance too! I have an interview at VCU (Richmond, VA) on December 7th, and I still have yet to hear from PCOM-Georgia or NOVA 😕 but I'm thinking that LECOM-B might be it for me. 😀 I really liked it there and thought PBL was awesome.

My application was recently forwarded to the review committee. Does anyone know how long the interview descision takes at this school?

Interviewed today. They said they were reviewing our files on Tuesday and we could call for an answer on Wednesday.

I havn't interviewed yet - I just completed my secondary there and was wondering how long it took them to offer an interview invite. Does anyone recall?

According to my records I was complete 10/27 and got an invite 11/4. Hope that helps.

i just received an interview invite - pretty happy. This will be my first interview!

Congrats! When are you interviewing?
Thanks, the interview is in Dec. I just booked the flight and hotel tonight - this is my first interview, so I am very excited. However, I hope it is not too late in the cycle for interviewing.

I was wondering: roughly how many students does LECOM - Bradenton interview?

I've got no clue on interview numbers, it will be my first interview as well. I'll be there 12/11 for mine. Plan on booking flights, car and hotel tomorrow after my CC payment goes through, damn expensive process

Yeah it is. Which hotel are you staying at?

The numbers from last year of applied...interviewed...accepted is somewhere back in this thread if you are still interested.

So for those of you accepted, do you have any idea how you are supposed to fill out the roommate information form if you, like me, haven't the foggiest where or who you are going to live with? (insert really fun British accent while reading the word foggiest)

I just had my interview today and was extremely impressed. This is hands down my top choice. I can't see the education being taught any other way other than PBL. It's so applicable, very effective and it obviously works as reflected by the phenomenal boards scores! Also, the faculty and students were incredibly nice and really spent a lot of time with us.

Hopefully I get in 🙂

Yeah it is. Which hotel are you staying at?

Haven't decided yet. Going to try to book tomorrow, look for a good price hopefully. Doesn't really matter how nice I'm just trying to save some money. Flying from California is expensive enough and cars for under 25 suck. I'm going to try to go visit some friends/family while Im out there after the interview on Friday so I'm going to need one

The Wingate by Wyndham was pretty decently priced and was close to the school. I had my room upgraded when I mentioned I was interviewing at the school.

Haha, yeah I have no idea. I'll have to check what it says when I get home for Thanksgiving break. Seeing as my letter is in Pennsylvania and I'm in Virginia. Oh well, lol.

Yay Virginia!!! Where???

 Same here, I'm in Pennsylvania and my letter is in Florida. BTW, we interviewed together! I think ur one of the two girls I met going though security to get our visitor's passes. Congrats!

You are correct! I was the one who needed to tuck my shirt in, haha. Congrats to you too!

I go to Virginia Tech, but I'm from south central Pennsylvania (around Hershey/Harrisburg). Florida is going to be a HUGE difference, lol.

Ahhh...Blacksburg. I'm from Charlottesville, but have lots of family in Roanoke. My band used to play alot in Blacksburg at frat parties and whatnot.

Charlottesville...I believe that is where DMB is from 😳

Sigh. Yes. Also, Thomas Jefferson. Although I can't really claim to be "close" to them, LeRoi (DMB's recently dead sax player) used to come to our shows alot...this was just before "Crash" came out. He was a pretty nice guy. He'd help me carry my drum stuff in, which I thought was pretty cool for a rockstar like him. He'd also take us for rides in his new cars and what not when he'd get them...although my favorite story:

Leroi, our singer, and I are sitting at the bar having dinner, around 7-8pm. LeRoi reaches in his pocket and pulls out a DESTROYED piece of paper...looks like it's been through the wash a billion times. He slowly, carefully manages to unfold it. Looks at it. Says, "Huh. That's where that went." Balls it back up and shoves it back in his pocket. I go, "what was that?" He pulls it back out and hands it to me. I unfold it again.

It's a check for ~$250,000. Radio royalties for ONE QUARTER of the year. And dude's like, "oh that's where that went." I think he bought a Ferrari with it or something. Punk. Lots of drug issues though. Typical jazz sax player. Too bad about the ATV accident. I always knew that living out on that secluded farm of his was a bad idea...

Carter also came to a show once. During a set break, he told me, "That's some serious **** you're laying down in there." Musician-ese for "you're playing is pretty good." Still the proudest day of my musical career.

A buddy of mine used to be the drummer for the Boyd Tinsley Band, which was the band Boyd was in before he joined Dave.

Ok...enough of my DMB stories. Everyone in Cville has them, of course. I mean, Boyd hangs out at fraking Starbucks. Also, my band and Chris Daughtry's old band used to do shows together alot. Their guitar player Brian's a buddy of mine who used to work at this music store in town...

:luck: ACCEPTED!!!!! :luck:

This is it, top choice 🙂 any words of wisdom from current students? places to live, fun stuff to do, etc?

Places to live: Lakewood Ranch, Heritage Harbor if you want a house or townhouse. Yacht Club or Colonial Grand if you want an apartment.

Stuff to do: Siesta Key Beach, St. Armand's Circle, Sarasota and Tampa Bars, Cock and Bull (bar), Trivia at Gecko's on SR-70 (Saturdays at 8:30), study alot, Tampa Sports, Farmer's Markets, LWR "beer theater" for movies, LWR Music on Main Street...list goes on and on...

That is seriously a huge complement! Carter Beauford, from a strictly musical standpoint, is one of the best drummers around. Must have some mad talent dude. I play bass and if I got a complement like that from Victor Wooten/Les Claypool I would prolly just die right there.

That was pretty much my reaction. I was like, "..., ..., ..., ..., uh, ...,...,...:wow::wow::wow::wow::wow::wow::wow::wow:"

I may or may not have managed to mutter "thanks." I do NOT consider myself anywhere close to that level. I mean, I ain't half bad, but Carter I'm not.

Shameless Plug: Listen to Laden Angel on iTunes for my Guitar and Drum work.

How long did it take LECOM-Bradenton to receive your LORs via interfolio? Thanks.

Just got accepted. PBL here I come! I'll be joining my buddy abdohalimo, 😛 fellow brown kids

If you look at the form, it is just an address update form. It only says "Address Update/Roommate Information" because the bottom section has a small blurb of information regarding roommates.

You don't fill out the form FOR roommates. It's just an address update to make sure they have the right address on file.

At least, that was my understanding when I looked at it, correct me if I am wrong... 😕

Congrats to all those who were accepted! 🙂

I believe that is correct. As far as finding roommates goes, I'd recommend the LECOM-B SGA Website (just google it) or Facebook. I think someone has made a facebook group already for class of 2014, if not then maybe someone should...

Well I'm not so worried about finding a roommate later, but should we just put our current address on there? I mean I'm living in MI right now, and not in florida, is it weird if i put my MI address?
Thanks. I feel dumb asking stupid questions about easy things.

so for a whole bunch of reasons i have yet to submit my secondary but am hoping to get it out by tomorrow.....i know that they have been interviewing for a while already.....do you guys think its worth it to still submit my secondary or are most interview spots already gone by now?

thanks so much,

Love the stories! Sounds like you guys had some kick ***** shows, NICE!🙂

How long did it take LECOM-Bradenton to receive your LORs via interfolio? Thanks.

I used interfolio last year. I can't remember if Bradenton is set up to receive them electronically or not... in general, schools that weren't set up took like 7-10 days (at most) while direct electronic delivery was like 1 or 2 days. It's always ok to call and ask whether your file is complete or if something is missing, and it should only take them a couple of minutes to look up your application.

do you guys think its worth it to still submit my secondary or are most interview spots already gone by now?

Last year, interviews ran every Monday and Friday through March. If you're a good candidate, there should still be interview spots open. Of course, if you're going to do it, it's to your advantage to get it done ASAP.

I have a classmate who submitted on the last day possible. Like, complete ON THE DEADLINE. Got in somehow. My feeling is that it never hurts, and it's just a little money. If it happens to save you a year, then it was totally worth it! Just make sure you're ready.

I'll just 2nd the above advice and if you have your stuff together go ahead and submit, can't hurt. They do interviews through March or so of next year so you still have a chance of getting in or at least on a waiting list.

I was extremely late in getting my application in and thus had a late interview and was accepted the next day so it's definitely not out of the question.

congrats on your acceptance!! how did you find out? did you call?
also, what did your status change to on the online LECOM portal?
thanks!

what does this status mean:

"The Admissions Committee has made a decision on your application. You will receive an official letter in the mail within 30 days"

it sounds bad. is that a rejection?

It means call and ask for Heather. Say "I was wondering if a decision had been made on my file, could you let me know the status of my file. Thanks."

This is the same note I have on the portal and I have an acceptance. One way or another you'll get a letter in the mail soon.

So, yesterday I log into my account for LECOM to check if they recevied my LORs (complete status), and there is nothing in my folder!!? I have an interview here in Dec., and have seen stuff in the folder as checked off, but now there is nothing in the pulldown tab to choose Erie/Bradenton. In the application status page, nothing is there (my interview invite is gone)!

Has this happened to anyone? Should I call and see what's going on? I bought the plane ticket/hotel reservation, I hope that money isn't wasted.

They will not revoke your interview invite, don't worry. There is probably just an error or update going on with their system. To be safe you should call and still make sure they have all of your files. Best of luck to you.
