LMU CVM c/o 2024

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm about to put a deposit down for the one school i did get into and hope I get called off of LMU's list because I would accept in a heartbeat.

Was that deposit not due today too?

There are 68 people on the Facebook group, 2 are admin from the previous year, so 66 people in the group so far? How many acceptances do you think they'll send out from the waitlist?

The class size for class of 2024 is supposed to be 125 so that means there are 59 spots left if everyone joined the Facebook page

Holly said all of the emails for those being off the waitlist today have been sent out already. So no more emails for today but keep a close eye on your email as they will be pulling people off the waitlist as others decline their seats. Also, they don't release the information on how many seats are still available to the public, so there's no way for us to know how many seats are available right now.

Where did you find that information? I'm just curious because the c/o 2023 is over 130 people. I know schools can vary their class from year to year, but I would expect (as an enrolled master's student at LMU) they would expand the class just slightly or keep it the same.

On the LMU CVM FAQ they stated that the class of 2024 is 125 people.

Sooo I'm just trying to understand. Between this forum and the Facebook page, it seems like only about 5-6 people were pulled off today. The LMU-CVM class of 2024 Facebook page has about 71 members right now, 2 of which are admins (mentioned above) and 8-10 of them are faculty and staff. So the class has MAYBE 60 at best. Why are they only pulling a few off at a time? Wouldn't you guys think they would've pulled a few more today? I'm sorry to rant, I'm just super confused and annoyed at this point.

I agree but there are probably people who aren’t on here or haven’t added themselves to the Facebook page yet. Maybe they accepted people who have already accepted elsewhere or are accepting people in waves now to try not to over accept. I’m hoping that since emails were sent around 10am today they will send more out tomorrow since they only have 24 hours to pay the matriculation fee.

It would make sense but we also have to factor in that not everyone has a Facebook so there could be people accepted that just haven’t joined the class. But it’s seems to me at least on SDN that more people are declining than accepting.

I spoke with admissions today and they said they are not sending out waitlist emails until Monday- Thursday of next week. Indicating that they have not even started pulling from the waitlist, and that they would not be pulling tomorrow. I know people said they got emails today, so a little confused

For the people that keep complaining about how annoying this is, be glad that you are even waitlisted. And get ready for a lot of waiting. Unless you’re lucky enough to be in the first batch of calls/emails, it will be a lot of waiting with not much communication. That’s how it is when you’re on the waitlist for any school. They can’t tell you how many will get pulled from the waitlist because they don’t even know that. I realize every one of us wants to know if we’re going to be able to go to vet school this year, but it is what it is. Maybe try adopting a better attitude toward the situation instead of focusing on things you can’t change.

Not sure, but I definitely got my acceptance email today and paid my matriculation fee....

If you’d actually read most peoples posts it’s not the fact that we’re waitlisted that’s frustrating people. It’s the lack of communication. Most other schools disclose how a ranking system that allows students to be realistic. We don’t have that and that’s what is frustrating
I was waitlisted at 3 other schools last year and 2 this year, none of them have disclosed any ranking. Of course it varies from school to school but I don’t think disclosing ranks is the norm.

In terms of the waitlist, a lot of schools do unranked waitlists! Like people have said before, the committee meets up again to determine who on the waitlist should fill each applicant's spot. It's not a "random" choice like some people on here have said (and I would be very careful calling it a dumb system on a public forum); it's supposed to be well thought out and create a cohesive class. This has also been said before on many forums, but if you're waitlisted it's a good idea to just start working on a new application. If you get pulled off the waitlist you don't have to worry about it, but if you unfortunately don't get pulled off then at least you already have the application ready to go!

This is probably due to masters students getting priority I believe. But either way it can put you all at peace of mind that you don’t have to be waiting for anything for a few days. Enjoy the weekend.

When you say masters students do you mean in a masters program at LMU? I’m in a masters program, but not there. Just wondering if there is a difference?

I'm sure she means the veterinary biomedical master students (VBS) here in LMU but for the record, not one of them heard today so at this point there is no way to figure out how they are going about the master's class. Last year the majority of VBS got pulled off yesterday but this year, asides from the 4 that got accepted in March, no one has heard anything else. Everyone just has to wait and hope for the best, easier said than done, I know. Hang in there, everyone! 🙂

just curious. Do you know how many people are in the veterinary masters program that applied/are waitlisted?

I believe the class started with 22-23 students but only 13 from this year and 3 from last year were interviewed. Out of those, only 4 got accepted on March. Everyone else is waitlisted, no one was rejected. Historically, the vast majority gets accepted. That's all I know 🙂

Are we thinking it will most likely be in the mornings to expect it? I thought there would be movement a lot faster. Keeping my hopes up still!
I’m thinking mornings bc if they have 24 hours to respond then it gives admissions time to send stuff out the next day. Maybe they’re planning on doing a few each day to avoid accidentally over accepting?

Someone in the FB group was contacted an hour ago but is declining, so they're probably going through the alternate list throughout the workday. I would say any time during 9am-5pm is fair game to check your emails every now and then. Good luck to everyone during this tough time
