Midwestern University Chicago (CCOM) Discussion Thread 2012 - 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those of us interviewing in September, we should probably hear back about our acceptance status by beginning of October right?

Just looking at the stats of those with IIs, it looks like they're pulling the people with high GPAs first.

Yes, it looks that way. I hope they start with the other applicants soon.

I really want to apply to this school, but I have a D in organic II lab and they have a no grade less than C rule. . Other than that my stats are good

3.45 sgpa
3.4 gpa

28 mcat

URM

Should I apply to this school? I have a full time job a retaking organic lab would be a hassle.

Almost all schools(if not all) have a no less than a c rule

You already know there's a grade no less than a C rule. If you want to apply you have to retake the class, unfortunately. Otherwise, you're just paying for a rejection. If you retake it, then yes I think you should apply.

I think most have a no less than 2.0 or 3.0 gpa in all pre reqs rule.

Either way I'd still retake it. But that's just me. I don't think CCOM will be very forgiving considering the large pool of competitive applicants that apply each year

+1 I agree with this statement 👍

theoretically yes, but you did not hear that from me

Oh my goodness, yes. CCOM is tied for my top school, I keep checking my portal to see if an II has popped up.....

Same. Top choice for sure - I interviewed last year and absolutely LOVED it there. The portal has a permanent window on my computer (as does SDN) and both get refreshed quite often :scared: #OCD

whats weird about CCOM is that they sent out an interview request pretty much right after I submitted my secondary. I am thinking that maybe they don't screen out their interviews that carefully.

Good to know. The first round went out last Thursday....maybe it's a Thursday thing? Trying not to psych myself out too soon 😳

Or perhaps, like a few other schools, they decide to interview you based on your primary and request the secondary as a formality/second step...? Or maybe they just do that for certain people? I wonder how many people share your experience. *thinking pose*

I think you're right. After checking out last year's thread, it seemed that they hopped around a bit... not really going by GPAs/MCATs or submission dates.

then it maybe not so good since it costs a lot more to interview around than to just submit the 2ndary and letting them decide from that..

i wonder if that means they interview more people than other schools that screen the 2ndaries.

They interview about 600 people for about 204 spots. I don't know how those numbers compare to other schools though....

This is the type of neurotic thinking that keeps popping into my head. I keep checking that portal every hour...sigh...

Officially on hold for interview, "Due to the large volume of highly competitive applicants, we have placed your file on hold. This simply means that while you are not invited to interview with us at this time, you are still under consideration for a possible interview later in the application cycle.""

3.12 cGPA , 3.45 sGPA 27P

Was that in an email?

Interview invite today! Scheduled for September 24th. Complete on 7/25/2012.

does anyone know how many acceptances they give out of the 600 people they interview?

Congrats! You keep getting so many 😱 I'm jealous!

Thanks! I'm pretty excited. Much different than my last round of applications. I think DO is definitely the way to go, and I also applied way earlier than last time so I think that is helping as well. Hopefully they will be rolling out more interview invites soon!

They probably give out around 350-400 acceptances if the class is around 200. I'm just throwing out these numbers though. From reading on SDN, it seems it's usually around 1.5-2 times as many acceptances than class spots.

Interview invite today. 27, 3.45c, 3.35s, 2 CCOM Alumni LORS. Sept 25th

In last years interview we were told appx 600 interviews, and with the waitlist moving about 400 of those eventually get accepted. Just estimates though, obviously.

Sweet! Congrats! I'm still hoping they just haven't gotten to mine yet, complete 7/16. So happy for all of you that have invites already!

Crossing my fingers we're in the next batch of invites! :xf:

Likewise! Good luck! All this waiting is really getting to me. I think I need to ditch the phone/computer for a few days. My OCD has been so bad the past two weeks!

FYI I booked a room at the Hyatt Place Chicago/Lombard/Oak Brook, a few minutes from CCOM, for my September 24th interview... it was about $130/night with tax included. I'm driving from Iowa and will have my car there so I would potentially be able to drive other people who end up staying at that hotel to the interview in the morning if anyone needs it. Let me know!

Good choice I've stayed at that place numerous times. Has a great continental breakfast! 🙂 👍

Thanks! Yeah the other nice hotels were $200+/night and the ones that were <$100/night looked a little shady. Free wifi, free breakfast, and the rooms seem really nice. Should be a great place to relax the night before my interview!

*squak of a loud speaker* ATTENTION. ATTENTION. This person rocks.

That's really awesome of you. With all the interviews you've been getting, I'm glad to know that you'll be admitted to a few places this year--because with that attitude, I know you're rocking those interviews. Way to go!

Haha thank you so much 🙂 I just figure we're all in the same boat of not wanting to spend a ton of money on transportation and such and since I'll have my car at my interviews in the Midwest I should offer to help if I can!

+1 I offered the same for Bradenton and Nova... why not, I have plenty of room in my car, plus makes it a little less nerve wrecking showing up knowing someone else (even if it's just been 10 minutes)

I'll do the same for my local schools, too. That was an awesome idea.
