I have a question, do I have to take animal nutrition? It cost around $2000 if I take it. Is there anyway I can take the course once I get my acceptance from NCS?

Prerequisites are requirements for admissions consideration; they are not optional or contingent on the admissions decision.

What if I register for the class and I get rejected for NCSU?

That is a possible outcome but you could apply that logic to all prerequisites.

If you want to apply to NC State, you have to meet our admissions requirements.

If taking animal nutrition is a barrier, you have the choice to remove NC State from your list of prospective schools.

You can check with OKState Animal Nutrition correspondence as it costs ~$700. It should be accepted, but check obviously with the school if you are looking for this kind of option.

Yeah but taking a class that doesn't guarantee your admission doesn't make any sense

I don't understand. Nothing guarantees admission anywhere. If you are saying taking one more class that is a pre req is a deal breaker for you, then that is your prerogative to cut them for certain. That is the point in doing the research on where to apply.

Would you like to pay for the class?

Huh? I did pay for online genetics class for around the same amount because it was needed for admission to my school, and here I am admitted. I have no idea what your beef is currently. This is all part of the process of applying to vet school. If you don't want to take the class, don't. And as NCSU said, you can knock them and any other schools that ask for this class off your list.

Are you attending NCSUCVM?

Nope. I applied to my instate because it saves me the most money.

Then if I were you, I would keep my comments to myself 😉

I can comment and offer my thoughts on anything I wish. I posted an option for a cheaper class if you wanted to take it. I suggest you step back and take a deep look at yourself and the attitude you've shown in this exchange. Many times these types of personality flaws seep into applications and can be a turn off to admission committees.

Where is your state school again?

ok whatever you say... I'm sure you wouldn't be talking to me like this if we were face to face.

I would. You are being impertinent and rude for some unknown reason. I am finished with this exchange however. NCSU was kind enough to provide all the options for correspondence so applicants can do their homework on which one suits their needs.

I'm sure you wouldn't but whatever

$700 for an online nutrition course really isn't bad. (Definitely not compared to the cost of other schools/ a 3 credit hour course elsewhere- or compared to the cost of vet school) Especially if it expands the number of schools you can apply to it. Yes it sucks to pay money, but it also sucks to pay the supplemental fee and get rejected, or pay to fly out to an interview and get rejected. Vet school/ applying to vet school is expensive. It is what it is.

Thank you for your kind words! NCSU is the only school that requires it. Any other schools that I have applied don't require that course. I'll figure something out my dear. I'm kinda a broke so that makes things a bit harder. But thank you much!

IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM VMCAS

FROM: The Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS)

RE: Extension of the VMCAS 2018 Application Deadline

DATE: September 13, 2017

The AAVMC’s Admissions & Recruitment Committee (ARC) and the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC), have made a decision to extend the VMCAS 2018 Application Deadline to Friday, September 29, 2017, @ 11:59 PM Eastern Time for all applicants.

The decision to extend the deadline was made because Hurricanes Harvey and Irma have posed significant obstacles for VMCAS applicants throughout the southeastern United States, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Many applicants were forced to evacuate their homes and/or are without electricity. Colleges and universities have been closed and the US Postal Service has ceased mail delivery indefinitely in many of the affected areas.

As a result, these circumstances have placed burdens on our applicants which are outside of their control. Delivery of official transcripts as well as the submission of electronic letters of recommendations (eLORs) may be delayed. Thus, we feel that it is necessary to extend the deadline so that applicants have the time they need to submit all required documentation.

Please note that VMCAS applications should be submitted as soon as they are completed regardless of whether VMCAS has received eLORs or transcripts. This will help to expedite your application verification. Do not wait for receipt of either of these documents!

This deadline extension shortens the time that schools will have to review applications. Therefore, it is important that you make every effort to submit your VMCAS application as soon as possible despite this deadline extension. Should you have any questions about this deadline extension, please contact VMCAS at: 617-612-2884 or email: [email protected].

We hope that all applicants and their families are safe and that those of you who are facing recovery are able to do so quickly.

Thank you, on behalf of the AAVMC and the Admissions & Recruitment Committee,

Tony Wynne

Director, Admissions & Recruitment Affairs (AAVMC)

Director, the Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS)
